Got my renewal quote for the Jag last week - up 20% on last year. Now got 3 other quotes on as near as damnit same basis - 1 in particular very competitive. Contacted my current long term insurer (Direct Line) and got put through to their "loyalty dept" (I've been with them for years and have another car insured with them). They checked my details and said they had no information about my speeding conviction back in Jan 2012, despite me being able to give them the date I advised them of it and the name of the guy I spoke to, plus offered to forward a copy of my letter of confirmation of that phone conversation. Guy stated that my renewal premium was now + a further £100, to cover next years policy plus monies I owed them for not advising that offence (SP30) at the time! Said not my problem they couldn't enter correct info onto their database, and in view of competitive quotes on original renewal premium, was looking for a premium reduction (that worked last year). Guy said I'll cancel your renewal then, and seemed extremely suprised when I said OK consider it cancelled at the end of current policy (think I called his bluff). Brilliant customer service from the Customer Loyality Dept!!
Now got follow on policy set up, better conditions, from Churchill saving me approx £130/annum off original renewal premium. Will be cancelling renewal on other car with Direct Line at end of policy.
Short sighted of Direct Line as there have been no claims on either policy in last 20 years.
Now paying less than £300/annum, fully comp, protected ncb, legal cover etc on the Jag, with further discounting when other car transferred to Churchill.
Reasonable result I think

im insure so bye bye co-opd with the co-op at the moment just had my renewal £ 250 decided to ring round seen as co-op wouldnt go lower got it with kwik fit through the meercats at £117 beter policy on a 2. scenic

Well done mate. They just keep sticking the arm in don't they? Probably thought that seeing as you'd been a customer for so long you wouldn't cancel!!
-
i was with them for a few years, last time i couldnt afford to insure car at that time and they slapped an extra £200 ish on top of original quote, called them, they didnt give a toss so went somewhere else and a lot cheaper ;D ;D

I think you have to move regularly, as all these companies milk loyal customers. I left Direct Line some time ago due to their lack of willingness to be anywhere near competitive.
The SP30 bit though, thats crazy. Idiots.
-
I think I pay just over £500 for 2 Omegas, both with declared mods, 20k per annum each, and business use. Protected NCB and all that guff as well. No breakdown though, as I have that seperately.

Yep that focussed my attention somewhat. The guy I dealt with was a totally arrogant rsol - just didn't seem to believe that I actually called his "bluff" and cancelled. Suspect the "extra" £100 was there to be removed to show how caring they were!!

Try £2400 for my two, both fully comp ::) one has no NCB due to only having one car before Feb, tother full Public Hire insurance, including £3mill liability...

Yep the Jags now just under £300, and the Omega is currently at around £230 - we'll see what the renewal is - although on principle I will cancel Direct Lines renewal.
I have insurance on the TR (classic policy), fully comp £60/annum, agreed value, fixed mileage.

Ironically, I cancelled with Churchill after about twenty years loyalty to them with no claims. The insurance cover was fine but I had to cancel the automatic renewal every year and then take out the same policy with them each year to keep the 'new customer' discount. They got a bit huffy about it a couple of years ago so I deserted them and switched insurers and saved £100.
As said, loyalty counts for nothing so I'll probably have to switch again soon. :-\

Tell me more - I didn't get that ::)

The crazy thing is that Direct Line and Churchill are basically the same company ( different trading names of UK insurance Ltd )

You probably automatically did as a new customer to them. :y
Introductory price for new customers for first year only, so I kept cancelling the annual renewal and gave them the 'saved' online quote over the phone. Got away with it for quite a few years, simply by cancelling the automatic renewal and then phoning them up straight away to start a new policy. ;) :y
Quote from Churchill website:
80% off for 8+ years No Claim Discount
This is an introductory discount to reward safe drivers.

The guy I work with phoned up Admiral insurance, then Bell and then Elephant. He was asked by Elephant what his best quote was, so he gave her a ridiculously low price and said it was quoted by Bell. The woman laughed and said 'nice try sir, but I should explain that both Bell and Elephant are part of the Admiral Group, so I'm well aware of what sir has been quoted'. ;D ;D

Snap, After receiving renewals for my 2 Omegas - separate policies - did some work and changed from AA to LV for a total saving of £275. Still on separate policies, but giving me full 9yrs NCD on both cars, despite only having 2 years ownership of 2nd one.
Result ;) ;) ;)

Same group maybe but if they are sharing your info which each other without your permission you have them by the dangle berries. The ICO would love to hear about this if true ::)

Don't know the legalities of it myself but a quick look at my own insurance website tells me that they share information. :-\
Happy to be corrected though. :y
Extract below:
"It is important for the industry to share information on customers' applications, claims and losses for vehicle insurance, to ensure customers are covered for valid claims and to help the industry keep premiums down for consumers. Providers often use this information when considering applications for new Vehicle Insurance policies. Our process for recording customer information is in line with industry best practice."

Update - had a phone call today from Direct Line following their receipt of my letter confirming my verbal cancellation of policy renewal, and my advice that their customer loyalty guy (named in the letter) should be retrained to deal politely and sensibly with customers. Upshot was that they agreed with my comments as they had listened to the tape of the conversation, and they confirmed that they did have my SP30 on their system, and that I had notified them in January 2012. All errors theirs!! Bit late as my new policy came into effect noon today.
They seemed a bit miffed when I advised I will also not be renewing the policy on the Omega when that comes up for renewal in a couple of months time.
Apparently I will be receiving a letter from them detailing the actions they have taken with respect to the guy I spoke to initially - if they don't retrain him, I hope they give him directions to the nearest Job Centre ::)

Sounds like a result, only other thing you need now is a big fat discount to be used again in the future! :y

Nah - they can get stuffed (certainly for the time being ;) ) Doubt the fat discount offer somehow.

Update - had a letter from DLine advising that the guy in question now no longer works for them.
Today cancelled renewal with Dline on swmbo's omega - reasons given cheaper insurance elsewhere (saving @ £100 pa for same level of cover) and previous issue with Dline on my renewal.
