Looks nice, so much slimmer back then, bikes now are huge.
FatherT used to have a RD400 :)
-
OOOhhhhh!!!.....Now you're talking, Mr EMD.
Thirteen second quarters back in 1976. :y
-
Here's my 1990 FJ1200 Yamaha......227KG and only 125 BHP......but still pretty rapid.

Crazed little stroker from the seventies and eighties. Very little front tyre wear. ;D ;D ;)
-
I well remember riding a z650 when they had just come out.I held it flat in top for a very long time and could not coax it past an indicated 115mph,which was probably a genuine 105 at best.
They have built up quite a cult following over the years though, and good ones now sell for silly money.
I still hanker after 500 or 750 two stroke Kwacker from the 70,s (must be a sadomasochist) but they command ridiculous prices these days.

I have the dubious honour of being one of those who crashed a 500 mach3 and survived with cuts & bruises. It was a KH250 attacking the back of a Hillman Hunter and a set of traffic lights simultaneously that almost killed me. ;D ;D
-
This is why i later went for the upright style ZRX1200S . I kept up with the race rep power rangers on this :P

Now that I like, upright comfy looking position :)

RSV was a cracking bike imo, although a bit underpowered.More comfortable to ride than most other sports bikes too.I liked the way they handled also. :y
-
Take you pick ;D No room for 4 wheels :D

Is the silver one busa ?...............now that's a mans bike. :y :D
-
That ZRX1200S was a great bike Tunnie , try one out and you will soon see why :y I had the unfaired version first but you needed Arnie shoulder muscles to hang on , with the faired version gives much more comfort and higher speed levels in comfort :y

Aye but that was my mates bike , hes got the latest busa now :o

My old RD which is the last bike I owned. I've always wanted a Kenny Roberts colours RD350LC but the only wayI could afford one now is to buy it in bits and build one ::)

Nice, Pete. Mikuni carbs and fork legs made of string. :y :y :y

all I've seen so far are relatively new stuff, how about some bikes that took some holding on to. Panther's, Velocettes, Ariel, BSA, Triumph ,Norton, Matchless, stuff before 12v lighting !!
-

How about this beauty, chaps?
My 1984 "B" registration Kawasaki GPZ 750 Turbo. It was a demonic little bastard. :y :y
Originally red and black, it was painted blue before I managed to get my paws on it. :-* :-* :-*
The best factory turbo by far........it went like shit off a shovel.
-
Shame you have not still got it Mr.Opti , worth a full wallet of the red ones now :-* I had the peasant version 750 which handled like a drunk pig with wooden brakes ::) ;D
-
looks like a tiger cub from circa 1960ish , another pig handler with wooden brakes !
-
Which also knocked out its big ends with every other tank of petrol. :y ;D
I had a Tiger Cub when I was 14 or 15,until parents found out I was riding it on the road. ::) ;D

Yes!! Very nice Mr Opti!! Didn't they have a little digital display on the tank telling you which gear you're in? ???
Competition time!! What's the car in the background of Mr Opti's photo? :) I reckon it's an Opel Ascona.... :y
-
Chavalier :-\
-
Last bike I had-purchased as a restoration project to tinker with-got it circa 1970 for £8 was a 1954 Ariel 600 sidevalve single.Magneto ignition made night riding on poorly/unlit country lanes "interesting" to say the least!Rebore cost me £1 and then £15 to have a piston made to fit it!!Kicking it up was a mare,I've never weighed more than 10st 2lb in my life,so not much leeway for error in timing letting go the valve lifter!Never seen another one before or since, must say something for my taste in bikes!
-
Chavalier :-\
Nope. :)

Nope. :)....not an Ascona.
No digital gear indicator....it was Suzuki that was so fond of those. It did have a turbo boost gauge though.....and DFI. :y
-
DFI
Highly inaccurate bar readings if i remember correctly ::) But then petrol was 50p a gallon :'(
-
Is it the Opel Rekord perhaps?

royal oilfield looks remarkably clean and oil free from the photo !!

That was because it was the first time I had ridden it after buying it as a box of bits 3 months earlier. ;D
-
think in hindsight the crusaders were reasonably oil tight, front tyre looks rather chunky from memory, and does the rear tyre remind me of an avon sm. many years have passed since the days of the enfields and other british bikes. and if I really go down memory lane one of my neighbours had the Triumph Bonneville as a test machine while riding for the factory !
-
Tyres were as purchased Avon SMs. Hard as bakelite and terrifying in the wet :o The front tyre had straight grooves running round the tyre (nothing across) the rear had a square profile that would have been perfect for a sidecar combination.
I soon switched to Dunlop TT100s. Much grippier and a better shape and tread pattern but smaller diameter (which wasn't good for gearing or ground clearance).

A legend amongst tyres way back then. :y :y
By the standards of today they'd probably provide as much grip as an excited dog on lino. :)
-
personally I preferred the Dunlop k70 for the rear but cannot remember the front tyre make/model, but that was on the ariel arrow and later the leader without the fairing and engine cowling but with trials bars instead of standard !
-
Avon roadrunners were the stickiest thing in the 80's , we had them on our RD350 LC's :)
-
Being a teen of the mid '80's i wasn't into "Rice Burners" but something more European/Italian
Must stress that this isn't a pic of mine as all my old photos in albums somewhere but it very similar apart from mine having cutdown panels
We had some cracking times back then and made friends for life

Never had a go on one of those ::) but many friends had them , one bloke covered his in halfpennies ..
-
Well at least he would never have been caught short

Never was a great fan of the Lights & Mirrors myself

Ohh ! Always wanted one of those :y When i was able to afford one they really looked dated :( I had the XJ600S when they first came out , put a 4 into one on it and went like soa shovel ..
Look at the price of seca :o :o :o http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-XJ-650-Turbo-Seca-GPZ750-Turbo-XN85-Pedigree-/290855156163?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item43b85179c3

Seca was a lot better looking than the honda turbos. Not slatting Hondas though , absolutely loved my cbx 6 pot. Wish i still had both now
