Love the space in the engine bays in older cars, sooooo much room to work in. Really makes you question spending £10k + on a car you cannot service yourself

I confess I know little about the Wxxx numbers of Merc's  :-[

Just something about that link i posted, the coupes, they just look retro cool to me. Well proportioned.

Been browsing forums, apparently like my 2.2, you don't need a jack or stands for oil changes, they were built then when mercs we mercs and everything was over-engineered.

So a Coupe with plenty of poke, easy DIY work, parts apparently even from Merc are well priced. Bullet proof engines  :)

It's the "skeleton"that's important all outer panels[including the roof] just bolt on to this.On the 4cylinder engine the side plates can rot through giving water leaks.Had a 2200SC myself once,no ball of fire to drive but comfy and reasonably economical too.Boot space is rubbish unless you go for the boot mounted spare wheel option.Rear seat definitely shaped for just two people,no bench  seat in a P6.

the 2000/2200 four cylinder engine had steel plates on sides of engine block--which meant all casting sand removed-also as it form engine block--coould leak --after 20yrs or so---easy to change though :y
