Title: Best wishes to Lazydocker.
Post by: chrisgixer on 10 August 2013, 19:40:17
Big op on Tuesday for him, getting his back sorted out.

I might be feeling a bit tense if it was me. So chin up mate. We're all thinking of you with everything crossed. Fingers, toes, everything.  :)

Thanks... As you know Chris, I'm bricking it a bit :-X ::)

Was a but of an eye opener when they told me that "short of having an organ transplant, you won't go through a more serious operation"!

But I think I've come to terms with it now... Just got to see what happens on Tuesday when he operates!

Well, I guess organ transplant patients are usually in pretty poor health before their op. where as, Groomer tells me, you are in very good condition.

Strange choice of words on his part I thought. I guess he means your in good health. :y

Methinks he was 'overegging the pudding' with that crass statement Paul, the daft bugger should know better than to give his patients info like that before the Op in any case! :o
I had it done almost twenty years ago last month and Surgical techniques have changed beyond recognition in that time and outcomes are very much improved from those in 1993! Pain hasn't changed much though, it will still be bloody uncomfortable for a good while after, especially when the Psycho's sorry, Physio's go to work ;D
Keep a Stiff upper lip lad, were British don't you know! ;)
We will be thinking of you on the day matey, so All the Best! :y

So up and about reading to bend over bonnets by Tuesday evening then ;D. Crack on!

With Cakey (presumably) not able to do too much, I can see it being fun in the LazyDocker household.

All the best for Tuesday. I assume you go in, do all the pre guff, get knocked out, wake up later with it all bolted up? Scares the shite out of me if I'm honest, but its the only next step  :'(

We'll be thinking of you.

Good to see you online again.  Remember to follow your post op recovery plan to the letter.  If you overdo it your recovery will suffer.  As mentioned in PM, I think you have had the same op as my mum had a few years back.  You will be surprised at how quickly you be up and about if you take it easy :y

Finally got the bedside machine working and logged in.

Op went well, although took longer than expected (about 6 hours off the ward!!), and he's pleased with it. Psycotherapists have been around and got me to stand (which was agony!!) and are pleased with it... That's all for today.

Had the magic morphene button removed, which means I'm not tied up to a drip, so now on oral morphene which isn't as easy to get. It means I'm in more pain but it's the first step to recovery!

Tomorrow they'll probably get me up and walking and my target is still to go home on Friday.

Ah, thats just because I'm a bit of a poof when it comes to needles and blood  :-[. Which now the neighbours know after having to "lay down" in my neighbours kitchen when my foot started to gush a bit on the day of the fire  :-[

But a firm believer in a bit of pain never hurt anyone. Maybe because I prefer the pain to the side effects of the medication.  Does that make me a masocist or however you spell it? ;D

yep, up and walking slowly with the assistance of crutches :y

Don't get me wrong... It's agony but much better than having to try and pee in a cardboard bottle!

Unfortunately it appears there is an infection in little LD that I'm waiting for a quack to look at but other than that recovery is going well. I'm trying not to call for pain relief other than during normal medication times so the pain can be very high at times!

Tomorrow may be a bit ambitious for going home ::) but we shall see... I have moved my target day to Saturday now :y

yep, up and walking slowly with the assistance of crutches :y

Don't get me wrong... It's agony but much better than having to try and pee in a cardboard bottle!

Unfortunately it appears there is an infection in little LD that I'm waiting for a quack to look at but other than that recovery is going well. I'm trying not to call for pain relief other than during normal medication times so the pain can be very high at times!

Tomorrow may be a bit ambitious for going home ::) but we shall see... I have moved my target day to Saturday now :y

Not what Emma called it! ::) ::) ::) Glad to hear that you are on the mend Paul, and best wishes for a rapid recovery. :y :y :y

Just had a text, he's going home tomorrow, having done stairs. :o

Initially that seems I bit quick, although having been through Amy's situation, it was pretty clear "challenging the wound" was seen as a good thing, and aids recovery.

Hopefully Mini LD is ok with it too? ;)

Good news :y

The idea of positive recovery is a sound one, provided he doesn't overdo it ::)

Neither's Little LD! ;D ;D ;D

Today has been quite a shock to the system... Even the simplest of tasks like taking a piss or putting on shoes, even getting up and down to/from the bed or chair are physically draining! :o

However this is very early days in a recovery process that is measured in months-years, not weeks-months ;) I have to remind myself of that all the time because I'm already frustrated :-[ ;)

Just a quick update... Progress is good and I've managed about 16 steps without crutches this evening. Moving between positions is still agony but getting easier. Generally very good recovery thus far! :y :y

Oh... And little LD seems to be on the mend too :y :y :y

Amazing recovery I'd say. How long do you think until your better than your pre op pain level? I'm presuming its difficult to tell so far? :-\

Sorry, by that I mean, tell the difference between pain from the op, and pain from the previous injury?

Not sure TBH :-\ It's a recovery time measured in months - years and I'm guessing that as I'm not allowed to "Bend, Stretch, Lift, Twist or perform Repetitive motions like hoovering/ironing" for 6 weeks that I shouldn't expect too much before then :-\

The improvements are phenomenal at the moment but I have to be realistic... The improvements are going to slow down and become smaller in the not too distant future and that's when I need to remain positive :y

But to answer your question... Psychologically I'm better than before, I just need to wait and see if I am physically too :y There are tick boxes at 6 weeks, 6 months, a year, and then another I can't remember. There is still the possibility this could need repeating or that the bone fusion doesn't take or fuses incorrectly or... You get the picture! This treatment is far from over :'(

Post by: Lazydocker on 19 August 2013, 00:32:09
Put it this way... Pre-op I ranked my pain about a 5 on the 1-10 scale (even though, as it has turned out, the nerves were so trapped they were surprised I was walking!) and I currently rank it 6 as a minimum, constant pain, rising to 8-9 at times! :o :o And that's with morphine!!!

But... No pain, no gain ;) Besides... It's only pain :-X ::)

Glad your on the mend Paul. I always remember after having my rods fitted to my spine. I'd been laid flat out for about 5 weeks before I was stable enough to have the op. Had the op late one afternoon then the nurses came round the next morning and said it was time for me to sit up!!!! I said Ferk off to which she replied I won't and you ferkin will sit up. I almost puked my ring and passed out just from sitting up.
