Cancers back for the third time, and this time it's on one of my lungs.
Currently sat in the Royal Brompton waiting for surgery tomorrow to remove it (the tumour, not the lung).
I have to say as hospitals go this place is the best I've experienced so far, top marks to the RBHT
-
What can I say? Good luck seems a bit limp, but, good luck. :(

You're the second person to tell me that, and that makes me feel much better because the net is just full of doom and gloom regarding "the Big One" ........ cheers Vamps :y
To everybody else, many thanks.

FFS :o
I hope it goes well tomorrow, and wish you a quick recovery. I know nothing of these things, but given your original post, and someone else's comment, it sounds like you are in the right place.
Good luck

Really sorry to hear this. I wish you all the best. :y

Here's hoping for the very best outcome and a speedy recovery.... :y

sorry to hear this.. :( :(
1.if your body state permits I will recommend lots of excercise to increase oxygen intake
2.overdose C vitamin intake.. like 3-4 grs daily ..
and also please check intravenous c vitamin doses and cases from the net.. but thats entirely different..so be careful..
3.İncreasing potassium intake will also help to maintain your energy level
4. Avoid direct sugar intake.. in case necessary use honey (+bee milk) and fruits as source..
and if possible add turmeric (as dust) in small portions to your food..
wish you all the best :y :y :y
-
What dreadful news :'( However, you are in the best place so good luck with it all :y

Surgery commenced at 13:30hrs on Monday, I think I woke at around 7pm but can't be sure.
Next morning I did the obligatory 3 laps of the ward to shut the doctor up, and 30 hours later I was out of the door.
The surgery was 100% successful, and the lump that was removed is now on a scientists desk somewhere being examined to determine the cancer type.
There are a couple of pics below for the more morbid among us, although you will have to copy and paste those links (done in order to avoid accidental clicking and potentially offending).

Kinell. Another couple of inches and he'd have cut you in half.
Glad to hear you're out, lets hope that's the end of it.
-
Flaming hell that's some scar
Glad to hear it all went well though :)
-
Not a keyhole op then ;D
Ouch!
-
That's a carbon copy of my scar :D
A Right Thoracotomy. Do you have two drain holes at the front just above the hip? mine look like two healed bullet wounds now, I tell the youngest Granddaughter I got them fighting the Zulus! ;D
Its good to hear you're up and about and the Op went well. Best Wishes for the Future :y

Bloody Hell! :o :o :o
Jimbob nicked my 'key hole' line ;D ;D

1.if your body state permits I will recommend lots of excercise to increase oxygen intake
He's about to go under the knife :o
2.overdose C vitamin intake.. like 3-4 grs daily ..
Can be dangerous, there is plenty of evidence to suggest that regular high doses of Citric Acid (Vit C) at best do nothing, at worse can cause kidney damage
and also please check intravenous c vitamin doses and cases from the net.. but thats entirely different..so be careful..
Again not recommended as this could interfere with any post op therapies including chemo
3.İncreasing potassium intake will also help to maintain your energy level
Messing around with potassium levels can be fatal (low = heart attack, to high = neurological and nerve disorders)
4. Avoid direct sugar intake.. in case necessary use honey (+bee milk) and fruits as source..
Post major surgery high protein intake is more beneficial than sugars (of which those not used will just end up as fat, and not good fat either)
But what do I know ::)

Not very graphic for some of us ::) After 9 years in the field I have seen and smelt much worse than that :'(
I hope that the results come back favourably :y
On the plus side the 'close' looks like some very good work, and I have worked with some very good surgeons :y
-
Yeah, a little bit of info can be a dangerous thing... ::)
Good news Martian. Lets hope that's the bloody last of it this time. :y
That first pic, from the wrong angle on a fuddled ipad, looks like they've removed your head and stitched up the hole. Could not make it out at one point. ;D
Best of luck with recovery. Easy does it. (Wince) :)
-
Blimey!! as said that scar is a whopper!! :o
Quite a difference in 24 hours as well, you're healing quickly mate! :y and it looks like they glued you back together rather than stitched you up? :-\ I've got a 7" scar up my belly which was glued and it's hardly noticeable now! :)
All the best for the future and I hope you recover quickly and well!! :y

Might have to show you mine, its bigger....... :P Drain holes similar in appearance to yours Phil I guess, only 2 were extra ones put in a couple of weeks later cos I had an air leak where they cut the whole lung out, without anaesthetic that hurt, they had to pin me down... :'( :'(
Pleased the op went well OptimalKiller, sent you home quickly, lucky lad..... :y :y :y

A Right Thoracotomy. Do you have two drain holes at the front just above the hip?
That's the one :y
You can see the main drain in the first pic, with the secondary (and considerably smaller in diameter) drain about 40mm above it.
On the plus side the 'close' looks like some very good work, and I have worked with some very good surgeons :y
The surgeon was a Mr Michael Dusmet de Smours, and he was nothing short of excellent in every aspect of his job IMHO.
In fact, out of all the hospitals I have visited thus far, the Brompton beats them all by a country mile for everything and if I find myself in the unfortunate position of having more surgery then that's the place I want to be for it.
Do you remember the H&S crap I had in Frimley over using a microwave?
Not so in the Brompton, every patient has access to a full on kitchen located on the ward.
I would end up hitting the post character limit long before I could get around to describing the conditions well enough for the reader to understand, so I'll condense it by saying that the Brompton is the dogs danglies.....end of!
-
I shall bear that in mind for when/if I ever need a resection :y
Did you hear I am staying local for the time being?
-
Hope all is getting better now! :y :y
-
Best of luck with the operation and a successful recovery. :y :y :y
+1 :y :y :y
+2 :y :y
+3 to that. Good luck!
-
Glad to hear it went well.
Scar looks nasty, but nothing compared to the alternative.
Good luck for your recovery, and I hope you've beat it for good this time. :y

The drugs had a bigger impact than I first thought, I've just sold a Galaxy S3 for £120 when they are still making £200 with ease (http://1389blog.com/pix/facepalm.gif)
The buyer did give me the chance to back out when I told him, but a deal is a deal at the end of the day (and it's a member from here anyways). All I have to do is stay off the morphine long enough to flash a standard ROM back without f***ing it up ;D ;D
-
Doesn't seem to be much I can add,but I agree with the sentiments already expressed.I hope all goes well and that you enjoy a full and speedy recovery.
-
Wishing you all the best and I hope you now have a full and speedy recovery. :y :y :y
The scar is huge, but it does look a very neat job. :y
-
So pleased to hear all went well and that scar, although several times the size of mine (I think... No idea ho big mine is as it's currently hidden under a dressing!), looks a lot neater than mine feels! I have x staples to be removed on Friday... We've all had a rummage along the dressing and come up with a different count!
I must admit, it's not the fault of the staff in the hospitals, but the care I received varied from excellent to very poor(!) just over the course of a few days!
I'd offer to race you to recovery but I fear it could be too close ;D ;D
-

You must have got some extra special care LD to come home with the clap!! :o Dirty nurses!! ::) ;D

I think the clap would have been better... Looks like a burn with the skin peeling away :o :o It really should hurt more than it does :'( :'( But the morphine is working :y

But then were 'ard oop North! ;D ;)
