Gun parts anyone?
http://news.sky.com/story/1159349/police-find-first-3d-gun-printing-factory
Shame it can't use alternative materials. It could make an hbv I guess...? :)
-
Wow! Perhaps you could use one to make a Chocolate kettle, too! ::)
It'd probably be as much use as a plastic gun. ::)
-
Great technology. Can it produce a woman?.... :) ::) ::)

Recall someone in America (no surprise there) had made a gun from 3D printer and successfully fired it :o

According to sky news, one of the govt agency's. Video in the link. Haven't bothered to read much of it meself tbh.
If only it could make pattern gaskets. (Etc)

Concern being evasion at airport security. It only needs to fire once.
Although pointing an odd shaped lump of plastic at someone may not have quite the same effect. ;D
-
It won't be long before other materials can be used in 3D printing. Very exciting technology.
Not so exciting is the ease for terrorist use. They showed the American shooting the gun "3D printed".

Probably :y but it won't be all soft with wobbly bits :(

It might do one day. Imagine. Pass me another, this ones F@*%ed ;D

It could be the end to monetary values. Start Trek style. :)
-
Metallic 3D printing already exists - it's just very expensive right now.. even moreso than plastic.
But yes, a full printed gun has already been fired (more than once) in the US and plans are freely available.. I'm sure some simpleton will now try and legislate 3D printers out of existence..

Won't the ammo show up in an X-ray, or are they printing plastic bullets to fire with it?

Plus, I doubt you could make a plastic mecanism to work the firing pin....plus.....a guy on the bbc news says they aren't gun parts at all, just bits off a stripped-down printer. At ease, men.

Anyone know how the dimensions of a part are scanned in? What's needed?
Would I have to measure Charlez Theron for instance? Oh the pain. ::)

You can upscale or downsize. You could make a very small Charlez to match your very small.......erm......requirements. ::)

Ah, you too have watched the beginning of the new Italian Job (dont get me started on the name) frame by frame to see if she falls out of her top?
Sadly, after seeing her in full 1080p glory in Hancock, I did see a reason to stick with SD sometimes. Not that I'd turn her away on a long, cold night...

You need a body sized 3D scanner.. ;D
Incidentally, as someone mentioned: http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/384979/3d-printed-gun-parts-are-actually-spare-parts-for-the-printer
While we're at it.. I own a lathe - I could use that to produce an actual gun.. arresting anyone with a machine capable of making parts and bits that look like they might possibly could potentially maybe look like a gun part on a bad day is surely the route to madness.
-
Madness you say?
Think we're already there old fruit ::)
-
Good point, better hide the lathe and heaven forbid I thought about buying a mill or CNC machine to go with it.. ;D

Yes, especially as there's no mention of the Police seizing the artwork, bless'em. ;D
"Right, then, the game's up. We're taking this printer of yours."
"OK. I'm just off to my local hackspace with this USB stick, then"
"Hack what?". ;D

Sounds like the kettle's on, the pot's warmed and you're poised over it with a spoonful of Tetley to me. ::)

They tested ICE bullets on myhbusters so god knows what might be dreamt up and used in the future.

Hmmmmm....no good to smuggle on to planes then. It would just be a water pistol once through check-in. ;D

You lazy bugger.
What's wrong with a hacksaw and file?
It's the explosive part that the difficulty.
It's a shame that there isn't an easily obtainable explosive liquid where you could just pop out and buy a litre or two for about 129.9p per litre
::)

Might dissolve the plastic though ::)

I just meant to make a firearm - not neccessarily plastic ;)

;D I had an image of ice bullets filled with petrol ::)

For when you absolutely, positively, need something dead.

Isn't diesel better for that :-\
