Title: Wanna play through the key hole?
Post by: chrisgixer on 09 November 2013, 18:13:52
Who's house is this?

Wonder where he's off to? Packing up maybe?

Oooo, integral garage.  I've gone right off that idea...   ...even if it is a double

...Triple! with ALL of the bedrooms above, and an office. You'd love it. ;D

But who's house is it?

There are clues. Look at the numerous dark patches on the gravel drive and the pic from the road especially. Recognise that hedge?

It's a nice house .. the garage didn't feel that big when I was in it though.. mind it was packed with cars and bikes I suppose.

Quite like that...

Only snag is that I'm about £434960 short ::)

How far north (or west for that matter) do you have to go for such a place to be this side of £200k I wonder :-\

As soon as I saw where it was on the map I guessed, Roger B. It is only about 0.5 miles from where I live.

Was actually thinking west of the Atlantic ::)

On Kona, Big Island, Hawaii, you can buy a 5 acre plot with coffee trees (thus a modest income) for $50k and build your own 4 bed house, all en-suite with a double garage for around $200-250k.

Just saying ::)

You could get a house that size - maybe not as much land, for 250K on the outskirts of Leeds.

Just.

Around here, you could buy three houses (big gardens!) and have them knocked through into one for about 200K - including building work + permits etc

<edit after seeing Guffer's post>
Possibly with "herb" growing sheds (thus a modest income)  :-X

Unfortunately the "herb" market there is highly saturated and meth is taking hold, wreaking havoc among communities :(

The triple garage and parking area I could be 'tempted' but only if I were thinking of downsizing, because the house looks a bit pokey, when looking at the pictures and floorplans of the rooms. :o

It is small!
I'd convert the garage to a living room and convert the small kitchen into an open plan kitchen/dining room with the reception room  :y

Shouldn't be allowed.

...unless building a suitably sized Man cave in the front garden as well, of course. ;)

Sorry but man-caves must be built underground with vehicular access, wife-proof locks, a bar and plenty of space for tools :y

White cat, large black leather chair and a penchant for laughing in the Muwahahahahahahaha manner entirely optional ::)

I'd agree with that  :y

But as it stands that house is totally wrong, proportion wise.....the garage is bigger than the living area!! ....

I agree the house living area is small, smaller than mine. Price wise I would say about right for this area of Sandhurst, where it is on a big plot and obviously has a triple garage. It is not on a rat run, but a busy main road.

Now if you want a house in an expensive part of Sandhurst, these are Thibet Road, Robin Lane and Scotland Hill. An example is:

http://www.romans.co.uk/Property-to-buy/in-GU47%209AF/Thibet%20Road/GU47%209AR/52705 (http://www.romans.co.uk/Property-to-buy/in-GU47%209AF/Thibet%20Road/GU47%209AR/52705)

The cheapest area in Sandhurst is Owlsmoor, which is a big sprawling estate, if that rocks your boat, it certainly doesn't mine and has good parts, okay parts and rough parts, but compared to central Sandhurst the amenities are poor.

Yeah, see, that double will only take one car. :(

Sandhurst is too far south for me. 12 hour shifts in slough could quite easily turn into a 14 hour day. Or more.

It would need to be a particularly special property to justify that.

Trouble is, the house we have is prety hard to beat. If it was slightly bigger, with a double garage, and a bit more rural.... Etc etc. ::)

Oh, and a big one, out of the flight path to Heathrow.

Gave away my first house too the X....  ::)

Mind you, there were some valid reasons behind it (Mainly to do with keeping the children in their home etc).

7 years later i'm more skint than ever!

My ideal house would need to simply be a triple garage, open plan living/kitchen space with one bedroom and somewhere to 'park' this...

 http://www.norfolkboatsales.co.uk/boat/used/218/  (http://www.norfolkboatsales.co.uk/boat/used/218/)

I would settle for an industrial unit at a boatyard, but a waterside house with a forest behind and a deck overlooking the water would be nice ::)

Too many decks and not enough sails on that one, for me; I'd rather one of these: http://www.sunsailbrokerage.com/used-boats/boat-details.php?BoatID=3686659&-Beneteau-Cyclades-50-VirginIslandsBritish

But now we're very much in "lottery win" land ;D

This is my ideal house, overlooking the ocean on the windward side of Oahu, just a short drive from the marina where the 40 foot sloop is moored :y

Add four twenty ft containers for the garage, and two posts tying the boat to... total cost £55k ::)

I'm guessing boats are not a good investment though. ...are they? :-\
Title: Re: Wanna play through the key hole?

Not exactly...

Bought this in 2001 for £21k  http://www.broads.org.uk/wiki/index.php5?title=Boat_Photograph&photo=l994_8103a&BoatId=5193&BoatHistory=8103  (http://www.broads.org.uk/wiki/index.php5?title=Boat_Photograph&photo=l994_8103a&BoatId=5193&BoatHistory=8103)

Sold in 2011 for £23k, having spent £18k on various bits and bobs... new engine, some timber work, heating, wiring etc :-\ was sold off season, priced for a quick sale, took a week to sell, but only one serious person interested. Paid the asking price, so could have sold it for more with time...

Was bought with a view to potentially living on it, but didn't quite work out as planned ::)

Would I buy another? Yes, but I would approach the whole thing differently  :y

I get my sailing fix by racing for the Army on British soldier.  Cheap, fun and hard work :y

My parents get theirs by owning a share in a Beneteau in Spain, they dont use all their weeks and give the odd one to me.
