Went into Vauxhall showroom and had a sit in the astra and insignia , very disappointing :( Steering wheel height crap in both cars , feels cramped in both as well compared to mig :( The sales bloke said what car are you driving now , i said MV6 . He said whats that then :-\

I know the insignia does too, going by the vxr I sat in a couple of weeks ago.

Went to Nissan , the QASHQAI was more pleasing and far better trim . Easier to get in and out of . He also knew what that shed was in the car park ;D :D

The '57 plate astra we had was a great little car. Very nippy and plenty of reach/rake on the steering wheel. ;D

After much searching, posting of ebay links and discussion you buy another Mig!!
Now you're going into showrooms looking at Astras, Insignias, Antaras and lordy lordy an ebay Lexus!!! :o
What is it that you really really want? ??? ;D ;D ;D

The Omega was a fantastic car, and very much of it's time, beating the Scorpio hands down sales wise. I know, I had several from new. In the UK it was aimed fair and square at the company car driver - fact, with much cheaper fuel prices as well. That's the main reason that there are so many around now for us to pick-up cheap. Don't get me wrong, it's still a great now car if you don't mind spending out on fuel and high road tax costs in comparison to a current model.
Very subjective discussion & no right answer I'm afraid ........

I really like the looks of the insignia and the astra. the insignia has a lovely front end (reminds me of continental gt) but the rear is something im still unsure on especially after all the ''squatting dog'' comments on here.
the astra though. that's a beauty no question.
as for comfort/ride/driving I cant comment as never been in.

Oh keep up at the back. There was a rumour of a new omega, a concept actually, a re hashed front wheel drive minger. Do you really think gm will release a new rear wheel drive in the current economic climate...?
And we can't afford a new car anyway. ...although a year after release we might. ;D

Just a small point. The omega steering wheel is adjustable for rake only as you know, where as the Astra and insignia are adjustable for reach as well. This makes both cars infinitely better than the omega in this regard, and I know this from first hand experience of the insignia.
There may be many reasons to prefer an omega, but the adjustability of the steering wheel is not one if them, especially as you didn't adjust it and drive the car yourself as its either set to make getting in and out easier for a show room setting, or somebody else has been able to adjust it themselves. Silly!

Just a small point. The omega steering wheel is adjustable for rake only as you know, where as the Astra and insignia are adjustable for reach as well....
..but they're connected to the same wheels as the engine, which will never do. ::)

The dull Insignia I took to France last year had plenty of adjustment. In fact, I found the 850 miles each way surprisingly comfortable and easy (and remember I had a severely buggered back at the time)

I bought my wife a 59 plate 60k miles new shape Astra J back in June. 1.7 Diesel SRI. It's a really great car. Much, much better than the Laguna Initiale it replaced. She's done about 10k miles since we bought it and apart from 4 new injectors and a set of tyres, nothing has gone wrong. It's very well built, quiet, looks good, goes round corners like it's on rails, the cabin layout is very nice and the seats body hugging supportive. And it still returns about 38 mpg town driving.

Nothing has gone wrong ??? ::),4 new injectors isn't a service requirement is it?,I'd be gutted if a car with that milage needed anything tbh

Replacing injectors isn't a big deal and they are not expensive. Trade Club around £20 each I think. One was triggering an error code so I chose to replace all 4.

Quite likely ;). I replaced one on my s-in-l's diseasal Astra last year ....... around £15 from Vauxhall

Yep, glow plugs at that price, injectors are circa 200-300 notes each (although thankfuly the Bosch ones are pretty bullet proof on Vx's).
You can get the 1.9 CDTi injectors stripped and cleaned for around 30-40 each (or do it yourself, its surprisingly easy)

Just out of interest, the 1.9 CDTi is belt driven? Assume so as DTMs views on chains are well known ;D

Yes, 100K mile intervals (and rarely break, when they do the rocker arms havea fracture point in them to provide some protection to the engine internals).
