I have the worst cold I've ever had. Throat kills, my nose is trying to eat my face, coughing like a trooper and very weak and lethargic
Determined not to call in sick tomorrow but can barely stand.. Any advice on good natural remedies?
:y

If natural comes out of a box ::) ::) A couple of Beecham's Powders in a glass with as little water as possible & down 'em in a one-er :y

whisky :y

I agree ref workmates not wanting it
Without going into detail I work for the public sector, and our HR dept uses a formula called the Bradford index to calculate sickness
In dec 12 I had a few weeks off with a heart issue, and in march 13 a few days with a chest infection, all certified by doc. If I go sick over this, my "score" will rocket, and I will be dragged over the coal...
Must go to work :(

whisky :y
Filthy horrible stuff. Cognac is much better. I've got a couple of fingers of it now

All very well drinking spirits and hot toddies but dont forget that maybe he drives to work and wrong time of year to do that......i guess your best bet is to hiss off your work mates by going into work and then get them to send you home sick......what other proof would the miserable sods want as proof.. :y :y

.. and our HR anti-personnel dept uses a formula called the Bradford index to calculate sickness ....
Likewise! And it's linked to our miserable annual bonus ie more points means less bonus

I don't start till 2pm, so a couple tonight is in order :y
My workmates and boss are fine. It's the HR dept who don't know me from Adam who will be getting involved when a computer system "warns" about my score which worries me...

Men don,t get colds so it must be the dreaded MAN FLU. Take yourself off to bed (if you have the strength) and
get your partner to wait on you hand and foot. Good luck with that. ;D
-
I'm currently pole-axed with manflu, that came on yesterday evening... ...I blame that joshwyatt bloke who I saw yesterday afternoon ;D
-
Honey,lemon juice,hot water and paracetemol. ;)

Same here, they even suggested the sack, whilst that is 'dangle berries' it can make life difficult, and I became disabled whilst working for them so they know, I never used to be ill...... >:( >:(
Any of the cold cures with a tipple or three of Whisky, I wish you well...... :y :y

Lemsip :)
:y
I also have Strepsils. Love the anaesthetic that numbs the pain :y
-
First stop for you James is the HR dept to sneeze, cough and splutter all around their desks just to make sure they share your good fortune courtesy of the Bradford index. >:(

Ultrachlorosceptic spray for throat.
Otrivine spray for nose.
Paracetamol and ibuprofen for other symptoms.
No alcohol, and as much water as you can consume, hydration is key.
Food as and when you fancy it, but kiwis are a great source of vitamin c, more so than oranges, and will help.
For energy levels caffeine will help, and can also increase the positive effect of the painkillers, and a drink with b vitamins, or a b vitamin complex pill will be useful.
Finally, a supply cupboard with no interruptions and a few hours work nap would probably help :y

Just got rid of that, had it all week over Crimbo since last weekend, Cols, Flu, Throat, Fever, Trots, and just sooo tired. :(
Been overdosing on Blackcurrant Lemsip (cant stand the Lemon stuff), mixed with, Honey, Jam, Suger, Apple Juice and a Large Dollop of Southern Comfort or what ever I could find, and lots of extra blankets in front on the TV, was asleep most of the time.
Managed to sweet it all out yesterday, feelling better now and getting ready for my first proper meal in a week, yummy. :y

When it comes to cold and man flu you cannot beat America pharma. I know that they have stronger doses of certain things but I have had many drugs tests over the years and never failed one.
-
Agree with the sweating out post. When Man-Flu strikes I have this big old woollen jumper I wear in bed as well as a pair of thick thermal socks. Drink plenty of Lemsip and have paracetamol at the ready.Seems to work for me.
Hope you feel better soon.
-
There is no 'cure' for this kind of thing. Ok, you can get pissed on hot toddies, which certainly makes it more bearable, but it's got to run its course.
You used to be able to get contact 400, which stopped your nose running for quite a while but, like everything else that works, they've changed the formula.........to shite that doesn't work.

If its flu you have James....then sweating it out is the answer.....last time i had flu (which was 3 years ago now...have a flu jab now every year)......i got rid of it by sweating it out...goto bed....keep the window shut ( i like to sleep with the window open) , two duvets on the bed....or lots of blankets....and leave the central heating on all night.....ok you will probably keep waking up sweating like a goodun......change your tshirt or whatever you wear in bed and go back to sleep...worked for me 3 years ago....oh and take a pint of water to bed with you so you dont dehydrate :y

Lasted 4 hours at work, I'm literally a snot machine, constant sneezing and producing thin, clear nasal mucus, yuummmm
Feel absolutely poo, on sofa with duvet and cuppa!

I keep having cold shivers, but she tells me I'm roasting.
I think the diagnosis is fatal.
