Was going to purchase this as a present to myself when I get paid this month...

Before Christmas it was £39.99 so was thinking I'd get it for a little less with my trade card and everyone'd be happy. In Jan it's now almost doubled in price. >:( Really annoyed!

Bugger! :'( :'( :'(
He who hesitates......... ::) ::)

Yup, I knew it was at a reduced price so I should have got it before Christmas. I just assumed being January it'd be on offer; January sales and all :'(
This prompted me to look on eGay. There's cheaper versions but they're either 'Nelsons' or 'Silverline'. Never heard of Nelsons and Silverline...hmmm.
-
Oh dear, that's happened to me before too :-[
TC doesn't work with the tools by the way. At least not over here :'(

Yeah, I did wonder, Jonny. But they're pretty retarded in my local one so was hoping they'd make a big mistake....like last time :o :o :o ;D
BTW it's a Neilson kit (Not Nelson ::)) that I've been looking at. Good price but no reviews :-\

...And the Silverline set:

When I got my kit recently the girl :o ::) serving me almost gave me a ratchet spanner set as well, because of the description on the box. If only the manager hadn't wandered up to the till at that point :'(
I also lifted a few spare bulbs to test the trade card. No joy :-X

170 pc socket set had gone back up to £249.99 too. :o

And free 8pc screw driver set :y
I don't know why anyone would pay full price at Halfords, they always putting offers on all the time ::)
-
Yes, the offers come round very regularly.
I am hoping they do some additional discount on the industrial tool box as the shops seem to ahev loads in and there not shofting them at the current offer price.
-
;D EXCELLENT!!!!
Cheers boys. I may now just have to order 8) 8) 8)
-
It's not worth buying anything at Halfrauds at full price unless you need it desperately. Bide your time and it'll soon be on offer. ;D
-
There seems to be some nice stuff in Costco at the momenta lthough I have no idea on the quality. Their customer service is generally pretty good though, so worth a punt if desperate and Halfrauds are not on sale.
They have a rather nice tool bench/storage item which is so big it wont fit in my shed :o

The big wheeled toolchest with the wooden top? I like that, too.. can't quite justify it right now, though :( ;D

I did do a double-take and had a moment of mischeif in my head before realising I was in too much hot water with SWMBO to get it now ::)

On the plus side, it's only round the corner from the vacuum cleaner aisle.. ;D

There's a bundle offer on the red and black top middle and bottom tool chests at £250.
I have these, not as sturdy or well designed as the black set though.
...but then, it just sits there. With tools in. I don't wheel it about, personally. Does the job.

Yes, spotted that this morning and was tempted :y
Trouble is, the industrial set is only 50 notes more and probably has the same or slightly more storage than the three piece offer despite only being two piece (as its bigger)
This set is also for storing my 'big' tools (3/4 and 1 inch sockets, large wrenches, big adjustables etc) and will be wheeled about a bit so I need something pretty sturdy.....hmmm, decisions decisions! ;D

In that case the red and black set probably wouldn't see out the year. ;D
The black set is more sturdy. Draws open fully so you can see right to the back, better runners and the draw lock has much better latch. Sadly wasn't on offer when I was looking at £600 the pair, iirc. Couldn't justify that at the time.

The cabinets that machine mart sell are very sturdy.
i have the hd ball bearing ones, and they are just as good as the snap off ones ive had.

I love the look of their large sets .. trouble is at full price they are eye-wateringly expensive in comparison to even the Halfords black gear :(
-
I'm personally going down the shadow-board route, mainly because of the lack of space in my garage. Pick the spanners i'll likely need and take them to the job, use them and then put them back.
I have a small tool chest and to be honest that does me.
-
I bought their spanner tray (not available on their website) for £30 (was £45 trade :o) just before xmas. All sizes from 8mm-22mm, 24mm, and some other sizes I'd have to check when not in bath. Halfords Advanced, so full warranty, under the ones in the link ;)

I'd go for the black - the 3 reds together may give stability issues on cobbled ground IMHO
-
I fact I'm toying with a set of black as well, but fear I could be castrated...
-
This is the £30 Advance set I bought...
Its got 8mm-24mm except 23mm, and has some flare (?) spanners as well.
-
...And the Silverline set:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Pro-Quality-25pc-Metric-Combination-Combo-Ring-Open-Ended-Spanner-Set-6-32mm-/380413691136?pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item58926c4500
I seem to remember someone (may have been John Stevenson on the model engineer's forum) describe Silverline tools as "finely crafted from high tensile liquorice"

It's a useful set - I have the same tray in my red drawers :y
Have a set of the black ones too - being deeper you have left over space if you put a Halfords tool tray in a drawer.. useful for all the odds & sods that never quite have a home..
-
Bugger, a set of the black tool boxes fell into the car boot at lunchtime....
....will make a welcome addition to the kitchen storage :-X

The black boxes are nice. Stickers are a pain to remove. Needs nice 1/2 " foam liners :)

All true. I've a pair at work, and at home with a Britool step-up box which is the same size(they're a bit unusual) and matches quite well. I see them in workshops all over the place. The stickers are a real pain to remove though.

I went in to get these while they were on offer at 39.99... I also went in for some screwdrivers. Turns out there was another deal on if I bought both.
So in the end, they were only about £36ish! Bonus!
That said, even at £50, they are still a good set. You will prob get a couple of quid off with the trade card too.
-

Last time I went to her house, Mrs DTM didn't lovingly arrange choccie biscuits on her best chinaware, but just threw the pack at me... ;D

Think I'm visiting deepest darkest Notts tomorrow with the Gnome so we shall have to see if the arrangement is up to standards.

I think you are perfectly within your rights to complain to the management if the biscuit choices and presentation fall below par...
...just don't tell Mrs DTM I said that, or next time I see her, I may have trouble walking properly ;D

Mrs Gixer has received "a text" btw. ::)

On the tool front boys . . . I finally got all the valves out of my cylinder heads on Friday and they let me use the parts washer to clean them up. Oh my God they've come up like new! That's one thing I'd love. Although not having the money or space for one is an issue.
If I was in my own garage I'd have one though 8)

If you had the money to buy a parts washer, surely you'd use it to buy a decent car? Then you wouldn't need a parts washer.

I pay for servicing, not repairs, and I have no intention of 'fixing' anything. If something's breaks, I replace it. Easy.

Pay pay pay. Must cost an absolute fortune. Still, it keeps the economy spinning I suppose. The royal bank of Esta. ;)

It would be very low on my list of essentials, even with lots of space and money. Having used the one at work, I find a cheap washing up bowl, some thinners and a stiff brush is much more effective. Especially if finished off with a pressure washer. If anyone does try this, you must do it outside!!

I'm not convinced. They seem seriously overpriced to me; it's a metal tank, small pump and a hose.
Although I spent £1300 on a new lathe this afternoon, so perhaps my wallet is feeling a little sore!

Nick. Mattress washers are a good tool to have. See ;D especially if Esta has been on it. ;D
Fixed.
