Title: Everyone ok ....?
Post by: chrisgixer on 15 February 2014, 08:14:48
...after the storm?

Fierce winds here last night , loads of damage around the place, trees and branches mostly, but fences still up.

Really windy here still. Got up so many times during the night expecting to see our big pine tree having a lie down, never noticed a fence panel laying on the ground. Him next door put it up, he can blooming well fix it..

Wheely bin was propped against the side of the M3 .. seemingly gently though as there was no damage. Miraculously the anti-gravity fence stayed up (that's the one where only two of five posts are actually connected to the ground, the rest have rotted through) and the 30' oak and 40' fir are still standing in the garden, thankfully!

That is pretty close for a pair of mature trees.

Roots under the house?

The bin was round the back of the house this time - I'd moved all ours back (next doors were still flying about in the car park, of course!) behind the house to keep them a bit more sheltered.. so it had only 'walked' about two feet to the car.

Still surprised there was no damage, though.. even more surprised the fence is still up given how much it was moving last night!

Wind direction was more in line with the M4 Aaron, come on.... ;D

We had our nine year old fence replaced in November... fortunately had the foresight to replace 3" posts with 4" ones... doesn't even rattle now 8) bits of trees and buildings everywhere, but it is at least dry :-\

I reckon there were more wheely bins than people in town last night ;D

Think you'll find the posts are 4"x4"x72", and bolted to 6' panels ::)

.Yes. I'd much rather live in the south and pay £300,000 for a two bed flat. Much better than the five bed house you could get up here. :y

The NE has lots to recommend it. Co. Durham and Northumberland are driving heaven, and we have parmos, and, erm, er... we invented the friction match. A fact regularly celebrated by the local youth, by the torching of whatever stumbles into reach.

If it helps, I think it looks good when it's all lit up, it's just I saw it before it was lit and my mind jumped straight to tomato flavoured egg-based meals...
