Title: Zurich

Why do people in well paid jobs complain in this way.

I suspect that you will be staying in a decent hotel, will be fed and watered at no expense to yourself. Net result is zero cost to you. I expect you might even get to come home during the middle weekend.

Frankly I find this quite offensive and would imagine that I'm not the only one on here.

Rant over, but please be sensitive to the many people on here who are struggling at the moment  :-X

If it makes things more PC then "IMHO", blood still boiling though.

I have worked abroad a lot and at first it was great but after a while it feels just the same as here, I did stay in lovely hotels and ate/drank at the companys expense but as soon as the job was done you were straight back on the plane to the next job or home

America is a great place to visit but not for three days in the midwest :)

Portugal is lovely but when it was 44 degrees and I was in the North of the country working in an industrial area it was anything but fun :)

Yup .. did that for 38 years in the RAF Transport Command (as it was when I started) .. lots of exotic sounding places and saw the inside of a hotel room for some of the 14 hours ground time ...

Although "sometimes" there was a problem and a few days off awaiting spares .......   :)

I have to go to far nicer places. Next week is (only just) South London, then in March a week in Wolverhampton. Beat that!

 :'(

Joking aside, I don't personally like working away for too long, it gets a bit depressing after a while, and the initial enjoyment of getting phished up on the company's expense in a hotel bar does start to wear thin after a while, even if its a semi decent hotel. That said, I've done far worse things for a job. Fortunately, I don't have to do overnighters too often :)

I used to like going abroad, when i was a tech installing 'large' computers/fixing them...

Business class on flights.....top class hotels (to ensure the receptionists could speak english)

Better on installs, because they would send two of us (hardware tech and software tech).....so at least you had someone to chat to in the evenings....

Not so good on repairs....then they would only send one tech....

Company Amex card that was never questioned (unless you charged £100 bottles of champers to it!)

Shame they went bust......i dunno why  :-\ ::) ;D

Oh the joys of Satolas (believe the names changed now - also hope the airport has, was such a dump!!)  Always ended up there on a Friday night, and flight always delayed - used to swap tickets and fly a Swiss flight into Zurich, onto a flight to Brussels (have a meeting/drink with my Belgian guy), then back to UK landing before the direct Lyons flight.

Be nice if IT was still like that - a blank cheque!

I spent last week in Tel Aviv in a shoddy hotel (I've seen cleaner Travelodges) on an industrial estate a half hour walk from the office (Taxi not reclaimable) with a choice of two nearby restaurants or room service (which only served sandwiches), and given the per diem rate we get I'll no doubt be out of pocket by the time all is said and done..

Although not as out of pocket as our annual conference in Seattle, which costs me about £500 to go to - unless, of course, I wanted to share a room with a colleague..

Feel for me.
