Title: Miggy Valuation
Post by: Kate on 30 May 2014, 19:15:33
Hello oofers.

I'm struggling with money so thinking about selling my mig until things improve. Can anyone give me an idea on how much to ask for on gumtree etc?

Black Omega Elite Auto 3.0 W(2000) Estate

157000 miles on clock
Black Leather
Cambelt done in March 2014 by DLK
Some service history
MOT until March 2015
Taxed until end July
One rear wheel bearing recently replaced
No oil or coolant leaks
Bodywork generally very good

Bad points

ABS and TC lights keep going on and off despite having a used ABS ECU fitted recently (I have a spare which I assume will need fixing but I'm not sure
Tyres will need replacing soon
Boot carpet is missing

Unforunately Kate I suspect it will be around £500 max and may struggle to get that.  :(

Kate,.....have a little think about just leaving it standing there.....that way you have not got the expense of running it and hopefully in 6 months time you will be in a better position than you are now and you will still have your nice looking car...as stated they are worth so little cash on the open market and i know if i was you that i would regret later on that i had sold it for pennies...Having said that i realy do feel for you and know what you are going through.I think that we all have gone through the same situation at sometime or other, however at the end of the day it is your call and you have do do what is best for you...I wish you well and hope that things get better soon for you. :y

Thanks for your nice message. :y

The problem I've got is that Looe, where I live, is only a little place. If I need to buy anything like shopping or stuff for the house then it means a drive of at least 20 miles. I know that doesn't sound much but when you've only got a few pounds, it makes a big difference. Every time I go out in the miggy it needs £15 or £20 putting in it. It ends up just standing there most of the time. ::)

With an obvious ABS fault, and most garages would want circa £1k to replace, I suspect it would struggle to get the given valuation  :'(

Lovely cars, but clearly unsuitable for your current conditions.  Problem is, small economical shitboxes cost a fortune to buy :(

I suspect you're between a rock and a hard place  :'(

Trouble is with the car only worth a few hundred its
a hairs breath away from the scrappery like so many
end up  :( Mig s are a lot of car for the money but not so economical
for short town work .
Pity someone can't fix the abs fault as it mite put a few off  :'(

Is the Omega the only car in your family?

Do you have a husband/adult children/or good friends who could lend you a small economical car until you get back on your feet?

I'd willingly lend you Mrs Opti's 1.2 Corsa, but I'm already in the doghouse as it is.. :-\ :-\

Will Tescos/Asda/Waitrose/Sainsbugs deliver for less than the fuel cost?

If yes, why are you driving to them :-\ Save that way and keep the car for local pottering :y

A cab fare to the nearest AE department at 2am will hurt more than keeping the car...

I sold my 3.2 elite with full irmscher kit on a couple of years ago due to very hard times and oh boy do I regret selling it as I cant find another one now to replace it, it did once pop up on gumtree forsale but had been changed in ways that put me off buying it back

A car just sitting there cost nothing and tbh you aint going to loose any value on it as they are already very cheap to buy, its a case of better the devil you know. And you know what will happen you will sell it like I did and then you cash flow will pick up and you will be kicking yourself for selling it so id had a good think, the abs issue could be something very simple to sort

I sold it to a fisherman in Looe yesterday. :y

I've bought a smaller car off a neighbour which will hopefully do 40+ mpg. It's sad but I had no choice really.

The good news is that I'll be able to get another miggy soon and use it for 'Sunday best'. :y

Realy pleased for you Kate.....at least you have transport at a cost that is affordable to you and that enables you to get around to do what you have to...As for a replacement omega ,,that will come around as soon as it suits you...And there is always a positive side to everything and its for you this time, because you will be the one to buy the car you want at a good price because migs are nearly worth nothing....So very good for you....Hope all goes well for you. :y :) ;)

And the insurance in only £165 a year. :o

When i went to town in my Pug 106 it stayed there a long time as the pigging thing would never start unless it was beaten with a stick  :( And then the window fell out , later to find it was held up with another stick  >:( Oh and the exhaust fell off and the bodywork flexed like a plastic bag in the wind  :( Oh lord never again ..

What did you get Kate?  Smaller cars are a lot more practical in these small seaside towns, hence I'm often seen in town in my Mum's purple Fiesta.....  :-[  ::)  ;D

I know what you mean, Sir Tig. I often take the Corsa for short runs. It's easy to drive and easy to park. Plus, it manages about 45-47 MPG on a long run. :y

I got a Ford Ka.

I've had one before and really like them. It's only done 69000 which looks genuine and has an excellent service history. I know they rust but this one looks pretty solid.

A solid Ka from beside the sea in cornwall,I hope you are right Kate as those things should come with a mig welder and free tuition :(
