Now just an idea, but students have to take a loan for their education and pay it back when they are earning enough money (OK it's not perfect but bear with me).
So why not make benefits a loan to be paid back when people are in a job? Just look at the woman from a TV programme on benefits and is now getting a reported 100k to appear on another TV programme, shouldn't she pay back what the state paid her?
-
Isn't that the woman who had her tits done on the NHS because being small "damaged her confidence", then claimed £300 per year for taxis to take her kids to school because people stared at her on public transport?
Ron.

7% of claims are fraud .
Working tax or family tax credits is a benifit.
Basing opinion on what you read in papers or bullcrap tv programs when mps buy n sell houses paid for by taxpayers who get all they can paid for while disabled folk and thier families suffer , ir folk who have worked but lost thier job through no fault of thier own
Pensioners
carers of disabled people .
There is more to benifts than this crap showin on these programs ,jeremy kyle or right wing newspapets.
The high life of less than 70 quid a week wow these folk or really living it wild
the cuts in credits forcing working familes to use foodbanks is the joke , this very small minority taking the pee has been used to pass these reforms through from folk that can claim expensese illegally and only have to say a half hearted sorry.
Wish they would show the real side of benifits instead of picking the bad ones

my new blood pressure raiser.
every time they put these places on the tv or the news crews turn up,we see the usual suspects, all smoking, txeting on there I-phone and sitting in there undecorated council house, watching sky tv on a flat screen tv. While the rugrats play on the tablet,as the pit bull terrier, farts in the corner.and Mr hardup, says "we find it hard to live on benifits,so we go foodbank"
>:( :(

I get your point, but surely this would put them off getting a job even more ?

Not if you deducted the amount they pay for their phone, broadband and Sky from the benefit. :y

so every person on benifits lives like that ?
This one sided opinion of benifts does my head in , i love this ability that you can see a persons life just by looking at them. How society can tar every one with the same brush unless you can see into thier lifes you cant judge . These programs are designed to make you angry like that benifts street the truth no one would give half of them a job anyway .
Chucking mud at folk that`s the nature of the Uk now we all sit judge and jury .
Thats the issue every one is put in the same box.
My mum worked all her adult life got cancer in her breast had to quit her job applied for benifits got told no been sick long enough she went through the chemo and had both her breast removed and is now recovering
Now does this make her an scrounger .... No her circumstance changed now she had sky tv , a laptop mobilephone before and after ... Catch yer self on really this is how you base an opinion.
Another example guy was self employed his wife took ill with a neuro condition and his child was having behavior issue guy gave up work to be a carer for his sick wife his child would tantrum for days and struggled through nursery and school that the child wasnt there turned out was autism . guy now a carer 24-7 should he live in poverty or without any lurxury just because he is on benifits he wont have the luxury of a health wife or a normal child ?
Mate lost his job through bad health had to sign on as he had a family he had six kids yet never claimed in his life and wife worked . Suddelnly he is the gy on benifts with six kids the scounger.
The idea that every one on benifts is scrounging or has sky or tablets is load of crap i know penty of folk on benifts who are activily seeking work living in poverty one is know who has lived on bread who had been to uni and now struggling to get a job .
And yer foodbank statment its not just those on benifits that use them , there is plenty of familes struggling due to the tax credits changes that are using them who are in employment .
You see them at the supermarket scanning folk who park in disabled spots like the average joe can give a medical assment to every person that parks or know if they a carer or not.

As a socialist I like to believe that most people who claim benefits are in genuine need. Of course, the system will always be abused by a small minority, and 'trash television' such as that seen on channel 5 about people on benefits certainly doesn't help.
The 16 year old pregnant girl shown last week was constantly referred to by the narrator as 'the unemployed teenage mother to be on benefits'..... :-\ Thus further angering the 'blue rinse geriatrics' who read The Daily Mail.
Having said that these people don't help themselves by volunteering for this TV trash in the first instance. :-\
-
The benefits system is designed to assist people thro times of hardship, and get them back on there feet and back to work, or genuinely help those who have fallen on hard times, but a percentage of people have found it a life choice, and proudly boast about it, we all see scroungers every day, claiming they have nothing, then we see all the electronic gadgets, and the fags, and tins off beer. basically if you can afford luxuries, you aren't poor or on the bread line.
when most of us find times hard we cut back, and make sacrifices, luxuries have to go,..
The member above needs to read the posts.
Rant over. :(

When I was a service engineer in the 80s and 90s, the number of people who have made a career from living on benefits was astounding. I was naïve enough beforehand to believe it was a small minority, but its not.
Some people, able enough to work, do not see why they should, and that the "Rich People" should subsidise them. Trouble is, we don't have enough Rich People.

Oh dearly me, so you think that program represents Hull and people on benefits around here do you ::)
Let me enlighten you on a few things about that program shall I
All the participants was literally head hunted by the production team iaw circumstances.
For example, 1 x young unmarried mother who is unemployed, 1 x bloke with his head up his arse because of past problems who has been out of work for years ect.
Nobody received a penny for any of it.
The only thing anybody got out of it was a cheep pub lunch paid for by Chanel 5 because that is were they was asked to meet up.
Every person who opened there mouth on that program was coached by the production team as to what to say and how to say it on the pretence that the world out there is tarring them all with the same brush and the program was been made to put across the true story of people on benefits.
As for jobs in this city, i'll stick a brief(ish) history of my city on here sometime so maybe you people who are lucky enough to have a job and live in an area were they are jobs / governments spend money to promote jobs might learn something :)

Time to get shot.
there's plenty of jobs in hull. If eastern Europeans can travel 1000miles to get a job why cant the local unemployed travel 3miles to get a job.

All down to incentive and whether they can be @rsed or not. If you can't be @rsed to get out of bed, 3 miles is a long way. ;D
Eastern europeans have a real incentive, because working here offers them better prospects.
The problem we have engineered is that, once you've become a career claimant, there is no incentive to go back to work. Even more so if you receive more in benefits than you will ever be worth in employment. >:(

Does make you wonder about all the people who complain their jobs are being taken.
Someone who travels 1000's of miles to a new country, cannot speak the lingo that well, totally new environment, is taking your job? You must be shit at your job if that's the case! ;D
Plenty of roles going here, trouble is serious lack of UK applicants!

I shall apply for Rupert's job. He is well past retirement age. Who knows, I may be successful. :)
