Title: 2.5 Elite - local to me
Post by: steve6367 on 03 January 2015, 09:28:14
Going to take a look at this later as nice and local to me.

Any comments? Price (sale) still bit steep?

Steve

Looks good Steve.  But no details on service history like cam belt change, so beware.

However the price is good for a 95K Omega.

Must be tempting if you are in the market. ;)

as Lizzie says Steve . .  no mention of service history at all :(

So possible movement in selling price on that point, but saying that ,I doubt there will be much as he's a dealer & he's already supposingly knocked a big  lump off :-\

I'm sure you know the usual  faults to check out   so good luck with it

Myself I would be reluctant to buy from a dealer  as a much better car can usually be found for the same money privately,

all be it you have to search them out.   Just my opinion though ;) ;)

Indeed, thought it would be a nice upgrade from the 2.5CD (which I must make myself sell if I buy this!)

I would want a bit of movement,on the price.
It will need a full service, poss a Campbeltl, all can be used to get a reduction in the price.
Campbell kit £110, service filters and fluids £40, brakes £15 per end, every little helps :y

Sounds closer to the mark than £995.

Cambelt and tyres should all have 'life' in them at £700.

Just been looking at a 02 3.2 on the bay,it's a pig when you look closely at it, and apart from the crumbling wheel arches the drivers side carpet looks decidedly wet under the over mat which also has a wet patch on it.The car looks unkept and not well presented for sale.Have put a few bids on it as I was thinking 'project' for the summer but as usual I'm being continually outbid to the point that what it has got to now I would have to spend four times the present bid  just to save the car.I have asked about the claimed extensive service history ??? and will be surprised if it's current, and in all honesty I think this one is for the RobG recycling facility. :-X

So when I look, can you 'test' the self levelling?

Have spoken to them and they have no history, going to take a quick look this morning though as it does look tidy in photos.

Steve,  you asked a few posts back about testing self levelling.  In the photos it looks like it is sitting about right for an Elite.  When starting the car , you should hear the SL  compessor start up & run for a short time , usually only about 30 seconds. Listen for it under the drivers side wheelarch , it sits behind the front bumper area.

There is also the possibility that standard shocks have been fitted in place of SL. Easy way to check that is look under the rear arches for the small bore black air feed line which plugs into the tops of each air shock. If standard non SL shocks have been fitted, the SL compressor should have been disabled .

Take a tape measure with you , with the car on a flat even surface,  measure from the ground through the centre of the wheels to the centre of the  wheelarch, an Elite should read 675mm on all 4 corners, give or take 5mm
HTH  :y

To report back - SL fitted and seems working (thank for that advise).

However, ABS light on, speedo not working, boot very wet inside and little tiny bits of rust in normal places.

ABS / Speedo = new ECU? Or visit to Tech 2 to find out?

Water in the boot? I couldn't see where its getting in and no rust so assume not been wet for long.

Needs tyres soon too.

On the up side all seems to work insider, drives well, gear changes smooth and goes in a straight line. I'm quite tempted as a little project to replace the CD but suspect price could be a stumbling block.

That'll be the usual ABS ECU fault.  Can be repaired by sending off, about £200 - £300. Plus another £100 for swearbox removing the bastid thing.

There's plenty out there without those faults  :( Even with 400 quid knocked off you still got to fix the oppsing thing  :-\

That is totally OTT, particularly for a silver car, we have one....... :D :D Getting a better 3.2 in black for less than half that price, and with history............

This one didn't & no parking sensors, I assumed it was as it must be one of first face lifts?
