Thats easy for road use and some off road fun, bridgestone at tyres :y

I think the most recent tyre advice is:
1) Go into nearest tyre shop.
2) Request cheapest budget tyres.
3) Go and drink coffee.
HTH. :y

No, No, No, I have recently learned, buy tyres on line and get local garage to fit, ballance etc and save a shed load of money.............. :y :y

Tyre King on oof now that mr gixer has gone , or is he coming back :-\
Fraid mr gixers knowledge of tyre technology was in fact pretty poor ;)
-
I can suggest what I've found works (and what doesn't) on an Omega for mostly more spirited driving - I've tried a few personally, and had the opportunity to drive many, many other Omegas with varies tyres from premium to tat on each corner.
I also know that what works on one (class of?) car does not guarantee performance on another.
Thus, for whatever wannabe 4x4 you've bought, ask similar owners IMHO :y

In his defence I think he had a good idea, albeit with little chance of reaching a conclusion, here anyway.
At OOF, we are the best place to work out what does work best, based on the fact we are mostly all Omega owners, and possibly the largest global group of Omega owners. If we can't, nobody else has any hope I would have thought?
The problem being priorities, and that was where it fell apart.
For example, I believe chrisgixer's priorities were possibly:
Straight line stability (on a reasonably flat road)
Lateral grip
Rim protection
Longitudinal grip
Noise
Durability
Cost
Eco
People say we have not dissimilar driving styles, yet I'd go:
Lateral Grip
Longitudinal grip
Straight line stability
Durability v cost
noise
eco
Now I'll pick on tunnie, as he never comes on here (and why would he?), and guess:
Cost
Durability
Nothing else matters :P
(actually, it sounds like lately, he has been trying harder :y)
I'd suggest we all mark our own tyres, but someone more interested in economy and legal tyres may mark their ditchfinders as having excellent grip based on it being better than the bald ones coming off.
So its always going to be an emotive subject. Like oil used to be, but we pretty much nailed that one a few years ago :y
So now Gixer has gone, ought you can add from a scientific/testing PoV dbug? If so, whack up a new thread, or even a guide :y

Now there's a challenge! Is that take the piss in general or of him specifically?

Generally I think will be enough to lure him out! ;) Maybe we could get oilman to join in... ::) ;D

I went onto the Asda site and found that their prices are quite good....you buy on line through them and take them to your chosen fitting agent...in my case i chose to have them fitted at Halfords..as they were the nearest. .and they were far cheaper through Asda than if i went directly to Halfords,,,crazy world it is,,, :y

I tend to order at tyrewizard.co.uk and have them send the tyres to my local fitter (who charges a tenner a corner to balance and fit). I've saved a packet doing this over the years. Tyre Wizard offer excellent prices on new rubber.
