I have a spare with me on all long journeys ::)
-
If you're worried about it, having a new one as a spare is stupid.
Fit the new one, and keep the original as the spare.
-
Good thinking that Nick. My new one is in the boot :y

Crank sensor is one torx bolt. (which is in the boot) Hbv, not quite the same. Keeping a new one in the boot is a guarantee you wont need it. An old one in the boot half cooked ..

Don't forget the tools, jack n stand to be able to change it :y

It is what it is... there might be a long and complicated thermal explanation :-\
-
Most of the time its down to the cable failing due to heat.
-
"VXL", which sensor fails due to heat, crank or camshaft? Would it be silly to suggest trying to organise some kind of heat shield and/or thermal isolation?
Ron.

When you fit the new one, its no longer across the top of the head and next to the exhaust and usually the wiring has some corrugated silver foil fitted.

And will it then last forever like till the end of the world ;D ;D
