Title: The AA.
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 01 February 2015, 15:30:42
They like me. I mean they really like me. :-* :-* :-* :-*

I quote from my renewal.

"You really are one of our most valued members".......Ah that's so sweet and touching. It's always good to know  you are appreciated.

In fact, to show me how much they like and value me, they have raised my premium by 83% this year.

I politely asked them to remedy their obvious mistake. They told me I'm still a most valued member but....no can do, Sir. :( >:(

My AA membership ceases on 1st March 2015.

Time to shop around, I think. :y

Tried it with me. The bastids actually took the money from my credit card. One quick call to the card provider and the money was back in my account and I was with the RAC. £80 for a year and £20 worth of fuel back.

Because the money is taken by DD, it is easy to overlook the fact that the bastards have loaded the premium. >:(

Got all the options with the AA. Last renewal premium was just shy of £200. Rang `em up, immediately reduced to just under £111

This is how the script usually works. Not this time though. :'(

No call outs either in the seven years I have been with them.

Omega owner should get a further 30% discount from the AA for being so reliable. :)

As as Gold AA Member I also challenged them (yet again) Opti to lower my premium , which includes all; home relay, home start, etc, as "I am a most valued member", and again they gave me what I wanted; "complimentary home start, worth £62 PA :D :D :D :y :y :y

Just done the same with their Fully Comprehensive, including legal cover, car insurance and got £80 off their renewal quote. In fact I have lowered my insurance costs over the last 3 years by £500 8) 8) :y

I don't think so at this point .. I can understand it, though - she's enjoying life again, going out, having fun, instead of feeling trapped with me (as she told me she felt). Still have a house full of her stuff and an RX8 insured in her name, though!

I generally pay the AA less than their introductory offers for new members.  Obviously, it takes a phone call to negotiate it every year.

We go for joint membership, with relay. I don't need homestart etc.

The spotted yoof that the AA sent out to me managed that task and some... ::) keys locked in ignition, ignition on and drivers door mechanism seized... step one was getting into the car and step 2 was getting the drivers door open, followed by assisting with changing the mechanism...

The only downside was/is banking with Lloyds ::)

But as I need to call them to cancel anyway....

Anyone used ADAC? €97 for joint cover, including European breakdown, looks good, but I can't find an English translation of what cover is provided. And my German sucks.

I'm guessing its not for me, but worth looking into.

My expiring AA was Joint Roadside Relay, and that's pretty much what I'm looking at getting, although euro cover would be nice (although only £30ish using a 3rd party anyway)

This is why it has to be a person policy to cover older cars, and the fact we have 3 of them...

From what little I can glean:
You have to call a German number if you break down
If you need a tow, ADAC will only pay the AA the first €200 in the UK, you have to pay the extra. Looks to be approx. £1 per mile, that includes Mr AA's journey to you, the tow, and his journey home.

I pay £18ish premium with these guys, there's a £40 excess if you call them out, but you can pay a higher premium with no excess.  ;)  I did have a personal/any car policy for a while with them which was about £60.  :)  Whenever I've called them out they've been with me within an hour and they relayed my Merc from South Wales to Dorset once without any arguments.  :y

Some of them are alternatives in the same way that setting the car alight and crawling 200 miles home on your hands and knees is an alternative. Although that would be quicker and less painful in certain cases.

I'm sure that this weeks Top Gear top tip was, if you've £65k to spend and fancy a gay led blue Porsche... Don't, buy a proper Chevrolet instead... ::)

STEMOs top tip could be anything though... which is both worrying and disturbing in equal measure :-\

Taking you to your holiday destination and then back home again is part of the Caravan Club deal. It isn't included in normal policies.

So if I have a puncture on my caravan and no car, my CCAA policy will deliver me to Provence and back...

woohoo just had a good result on my breakdown cover, been with greenflag for 10 years through caravan club and havnt used them till jan this year and although I was sorted out it was a bit of a farce and after a phonecall to discuss my renewal which ended in me putting phone down I cancelled my automatic renewal and sent them an email.yesterday I received a cheque of apology for £25 and rang them tonight to ask how much to keep the same level of cover bearing in mind im no longer with caravan club and they've classed it as renewal so with the cheque its only cost me £8 for recovery within 1/4 mile from home, national recovery to any destination and if they have left the cover exactly the same if I don't get my car repaired at my destination they will pick me back up and bring me home so not to spoil my holiday  :y
Sounds good, Daz. Except next time you break down it's likely to be a farce again. I like cheap, but I like good service as well.

TOP TIP: Buy a daewoo orlando and you will never, ever break down. :y
received another cheque for £25 today from the recovery company that greenflag instructed to help me  :D after looking into prices yesterday ive managed to get rescue and national recovery for half the price of anywhere else but with the cheques im actually £17 up  ;D
