Got a good deal on my daewoo (£6500), and it saves me worrying about future parts availability.
Nice colour eh? ;D

It's a bog standard, easy to fix, easy to get parts for Astra estate. Suits me sir. ;D
-
Indeed, nice piss green :D
Oxymoron or not, it Is sporty compared to the Daewoo it replaces ::)
Scouse built too ;)
-
Silky Shadow Green :-\

Fair do's. An improvement certainly.
... How long until we get him up to omega levels. Never at this rate. ;)

Good for you, :y but not for us. :-\
Your Daewoo was great for 'taking the piss out of' ;D ;D
-
How much money did you need to add in order to rid yourself of the Daewoo? ::) ::) ;)

Were you no good at sums at school? I told you what I got for the Chevrolet, and the price of the Astra is in the link. Pocket change.....to you.

Did you not try and Knock em down
No. Haven't even seen it yet. Us young, techy people do it all on the Internet. It's in Sheffield, they are bringing it to Barnsley and next Saturday morning, provided both sides are happy, exchange keys.

So when they see your Daewoo in the flesh....... :( :( ;)
That £6500 may be considerably reduced.
-
So this deposit paid, on a car unseen. Refundable is it?

Will you stop worrying about other people's car transactions. It will all go fine. I cannot lose, my car is in excellent condition and, if they don't like it, they can lump it and refund my deposit. I don't need to change my car, I am choosing to change my car.
I've already warned the salesman about how I do business, when he said we had a few 'bits and bats' to clear up, I told him..no supaguard, no gap insurance, no extras whatsoever. He said I was a bastard as his wife and kids were starving, I laughed and the groundrules were set. ALWAYS be prepared to walk away.
-

God....how do you people get through the day?
No...I told him he could keep it as a gift. ;D

So as its Scouse built, and hence WILL have the wrong wheels on it obviously, if you don't want the car you loose your deposit, or end up with a car you potentially don't want. They on the other hand either keep the deposit for nout or make a sale anyway....
Have you gone completely mad? Silly question but then where's the sense anywhere in here?
Do you like being tied up? As well as your other perversions? ;D

WTF are you on? Wrong wheels? Steel wheels on these, look at the pics. If either party is not satisfied, then the deposit is refunded...and I made sure of that by paying with a credit card.
Chris....there are actually nice, trustworthy buyers and sellers in the car business you know.

Never had a deal go bad on me yet.
"But what about the daewoo, that was a terrible deal" yeah, yeah.
-
Do they throw in sexual "favours" ? Aaah I get it now. ;D
-
Of course they're steel wheels. It's Scouse built ya nutter ;D
-
You car has alloys...."Proper alloy wheels these. Not those crappy tin ones".
Your car has steel wheels...."I'm better off with these wheels, those alloys look a mess when you kerb them".
People tend to give reasons why they prefer what they have. ;D
"What's the point of havin a car that will do 150? The speed limit is 70 and mine will go well faster than that. 112.5 mine will do". ;D
-
Climate control? Just something else to go wrong and it never works properly anyway. ;D
-
Like a Daewoo will do?
Your just upset somebody beat you to the scrap value. Slipping Steve. Slipping. :P
-
Colour apart I find it quite a handsome car. :y
Drop an Omega V6 in it and you won't go far wrong. :y
-
"I'm better off with these wheels, those alloys look a mess when you kerb them". You kidding Steve?Ever seen those 'plastic' alloys after being kerbed..... ;)

Ive just messaged the dealer an said would he take £9k for it ;D ;D
only joking :P

I hate silver. Once upon a time it seemed like a good idea.
These days every Audi, BMW and Merc seems to be fooking silver.
BRG....British racing green. Now there's a colour. :y

Then take a picture of one along to B&Q, they can match millions of colours apparently. Get them to make you up a tin of paint and get your brush out. You'll end up with a finish as good as they got in the thirties. :y
-
I think it's a nice looking car, maybe not my first colour choice, but certainly looks a better design than most medium size estate cars.

I agree on both counts.

Yes I like that. :y
-
Silky Shadow Green :-\
Looks very good apart from the metallic snot green, I don't think I could live with that. :o :o :o
-
I can just imagine it, cold winters day, thick with a head cold, screech of tyres as you jump out and have a good nasal cleaning sneeze all over your tin hankie. Smart thinking, perfect camouflage, nobody will notice. ;D ;D ;D ;D

I did that when I bought the Honda, they were not very happy when I did not want their finance, or gap insurance, but I was surprised to get a little more off when I mentioned I knew the owner of the Supaguard franchise, I got a friends discount........ :y :y Obviously I could not say why I knew him..... :-X ;)

Going to pick it up on Thursday, think I'll wear sunglasses when I go.
1) So the colour doesn't look to bad through tinted lenses, and
2) So no one recognises me driving it.

It's quite simple. Don't buy it if your not happy. ...oh, yes sorry, I was forgetting.
Surely this is a wind up Steve?

The 1.4 Astra is gutless, 1.6 passable (unless on the J when it is borderline).

Yes, I know.
So you are looking forward to owning a 'gutless' car. :) :D
Judging by the photographs it looks quite hefty for only 1400 cc.

I'm not looking forwards, or backwards, to anything. My cars suit my pocket and my purpose, nothing more. The Orlando is fine, just had it valeted and it's immaculate, just don't fancy the time when I have trouble keeping it on the road.
The garage I am trading it at was a Chevy dealer. Salesman told me they never sold one orlando retail, every one was mobility.

I suspect the Skoda Roomster suffers the same ignominy :-\

Personally speaking I would have gone for the bigger engine. The car though is quite stylish (colour excepted) for an estate. :y

Thanks for your input, Henry. I did quite a bit of research before buying and, weighing up the pros and cons, thought it would meet my needs adequately. :y
Still haven't given up on a big, old luxury barge to footle around in later in life, but that would be totally impractical at the moment.
-
Oh yes, they are pretty good cars and a competent drive but, the 1.4 NA engine is to be avoided.
-
we had 1.4 Astra at work as a courtesy car seemed to go ok :y

Big day tomorrow, Steve. :y.Picking up a new car is always exciting.

I wonder if he can buy his Daewoo back? ::) ::)
£1000 to cover costs should see it back on his drive.

I bought my Chevrolet and got loads of stick. I ran it for two years with no problems, whilst reading about various exploding/disintegrating omegas on here.
Now I have a vauxhall and, no doubt, will have no problems at all whilst still reading about misbehaving omegas. Fill yer boots, winkers.. ;D

Hold on, are you getting all proud as punch that your newer car didn't brake down? Oh well done. ::) ;D
So what was playing up so badly on the Daewoo that prompted buying a 'snot funny Astra? Hmm?

Ha ha, no, bullet proof gearbox, been around a long time (although seen some minor mods such as the addition of cable shift actuators), was used on the likes of the 1.8i Cav etc :y
-
Had it less than 24hrs, done about 50 miles, still getting used to it but first impressions are good. Gearbox needs a firm hand but, once you realise you're not going to break it, it becomes 'positive' or 'firm'. :)
Despite the 1.4, 100bhp engine, you can drop it into 5th at 35 and it will pull you round all day. I would imagine, although I haven't encountered it yet, that the heavy clutch and gearbox along with the awkward position of the handbrake, would be quite tiring in heavy,stop/start traffic.

Doesn't sound like a love affair, Steve.
More a 'matter of fact appraisal' of white goods.
I, like most here, have a love/hate relationship with my Omega. :-* :-* :-* :'( :'( :'( :-* :-* :'( :'( :'(

It's a car, Opti, and these days I'm happy to settle for reliability and practicality rather than power and kudos. However, I'm not ready for the knackers yard just yet and, as I said previously, I haven't given up on a big, thirsty, old barge when my time as family taxi driver and chief dog walker is up.

I get over excited at times. :D
A week or two ago I was tempted by a 2006 BMW 550. The guy wanted just shy of £7,000.
Luckily it sold before I had time to a make a complete tit of myself (again) ;)

In a word, Mr EMD....Airbags. One failed and cost about £800 to replace at a Merc indy. It would have cost double that at a main dealer. The other three airbags were the same age and therefore just waiting to kick me in the balls. ;D ;D
Apart from being extremely quick it was pretty ordinary. Not that well screwed together either.
I genuinely prefer my Omega. :y

Three days now and getting to know my astra. Getting used to having to rag it a bit to get the best out of it and, like my wife, I think it actually enjoys it.
One very small annoyance. I drove it at dusk last night and I could see the red DIC display reflected in my drivers door window. I don't like that colour display, not at all relaxing, or particularly clear.

That is correct, they are supposed to spray a line close to the wipers level which ensures the screen gets correctly wiped.

They pretty much achieve that standing still but are useless at speed.

£7.99 is like.....nothing. Won't even buy you 20 fags. You really need to go a have a look around the shops or you will sink further into the 70's. ;D

I wish we could return to seventies prices.
My FIL paid £5000 for a 4 bedroom detached house in 1971......complete with garage. :y
-
Actually...maybe it's a middle-aged car forum member thing. I was reading on another Vx site how, to save spending such a vast amount of money, one could drive to B&Q, find some hollow aluminium tube, queue up and pay, drive home, get out your tools and fashion one that might do the job....thus saving.......about a pound. ;D

A couple of hours before you do the job, Andy, give them a squirt of WD40. Makes the job easier when you get round to it.

And you can still buy a place like that for a similar price in Liverpool today ;D
Jokes aside, where was this? Do you know what property prices were like in London at that time?

Depends which part of London. Prices in most parts were reasonable then, but yuppies bought up loads of them and declared the surrounding area as 'up and coming' and called them 'village'.

The gentrification of London is gaining speed with each passing day. :( >:(
Locations once described as 'shitholes' are now suddenly desirable.

Indeed opti. I live round the corner from Hackney which was among the shitholes now labelled trendy. I still wouldn't feel comfortable walking in that area at night with packing
Anyway...can we get back to bullying STMO
