Title: Dodgy or not?
Post by: hoj on 16 May 2015, 20:54:48
Driving along today and a car parked on the roadside suddenly pulled out no indication soi couldn't avoid hitting it
Exchanged name address phone numbers but on asking his insurance details he couldn't remember who he was with
Fair enough
I'm no expert but it looks like my car need a bumper, bonnet and possibly a wing

Get a phone call of the guy 1/2 hour later asking if we could settle without going through insurance and he would pay for my car to be fixed
1/2 passes again and I get a text saying he would pay for my repairs AND give me a grand as well
Hahaha
What do you reckon?

I reckon he is a dodgy bastid but,  if he gives you the price of a bumper and a grand by ten o'clock tomorrow morning, I would overlook his dodgyness. ;D

No insurance it says
Just tell your insurance what happened if you want to keep it legal. Any other course of action could go against you.

What were you driving? An Omega?

If it needs bumper and a wing, it will be declared an insurance right off.

Take the the bag and stay schtum.
Say owt to your insurer, and your premium on renewal will increase as you have a declared accident,on your record, even tho no payout has occurred.

And before the hang-em high, brigade start up,,report a non payout accident to your insurers and see.

What he said, unfortunately.^

Had the same situation myself once. My insurer said the 3rd parties lack of insurance was "no problem" as I'm comprehensively insured. No problem except for my excess, of course! They were, of course, "unable to trace" the 3rd party. I wrote to the 3rd party and asked politely for my excess, and received a cheque by return of post. Thought I'd better go to the Police and report this uninsured driver "Oh, you'll just be needing an incident number from us, then?". ::)

That plus the fact that your Omega will be written off if it goes anywhere near an insurance claim. Just take the money and advise the guy to get insurance before it's someone's kid in his path. It's not the "right thing" to do, but, in this instance, doing the right thing will just cost you money and aggro. >:(

Hi Kevin,i agree but what a sad world we live in.When we have to think like this. :( >:(maybe i would just put up with the cost and aggro, just to do the right thing. :-\
