Title: I'm in two minds. Should I sell my Omega?
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 12 July 2015, 20:12:47
It is a lovely  car but if it's only worth buttons it may be simpler to keep the old girl.

11 months MOT.

As you said, its a lovely car and the MOT is worth more than the car. You got to keep it. Quids in. :y

Keep it I'd say.

You have vast amounts of land to store it and insurance loose change and maintenance is peanuts.

You got to keep it, Opti. Why sell it for the price of a brake job when you won't find anything nearly as good?

Mary Whitehouse would recommend you wash your mouth out with soapy water for saying so.
Is the Signum that good? I may have to try one...... ;D

The thing is this. I'd want the thick end of a grand to part with her and nobody is willing to pay that.

Brand new pagid discs and pads.

A brace of brand new Goodyear Eagle As 2 on the rear.

Oil cooler changed 4 years ago.

You only want a grand for it?

Is there a big difference in price between 2.6/3.2? If yours was the latter I'm sure it would be worth at least £1.5k

Shame its only a 2.6 otherwise I would have had it.

And with the monies you obtain from selling, you can buy a full annual tyre package for the Signum. (possibly)

I'm not taking the piss now, I know how easy it is to spin up those front wheels.  Have you had a tracking check?  It will be suitable to have the alignment checked, as opposed to a full geometry set-up, colonic irrigation, double heart bypass and anal bleaching such as the Omega requires.

EDIT:  AND THESE THINGS MUST BE DONE AT SPESHUL PLACES.  YOU CANNOT *REPEAT* CANNOT HAVE THEM DONE ANYWHERE OTHER THAN PIXIE LAND!

I love Migs, but the V6 Turbo Signum is a belter.

And no!  I do not drive a piece of shit Astra in a very unpopular colour.  ;D

I think I asked that question on another post, in my mind they were only a 4 seater, having a fridge or other equipment in the middle of the rear seats............ :y :y

They are technically a five seater, but the actual rear seat is a 41/18/41% split, with the outer two seats being effectively separate fully adjustable seats, rendering the centre portion irrelevant ;)

Has the old boy turned to the beckoning bosom of the Astra forum?

A fooking uncomfortable one. :-\

The rear seat arrangement in the Signum is a real 'dogs dinner'........I'm amazed it was signed off by Vauxhall as fit for purpose.

....and relatively rare. I don't think they were produced in large numbers.

I'm guessing there is one 2.8 for every twenty 1.9 derv drinkers.

I've received a PM asking what I'd accept for this fine automobile. :y I'd rather not say but I'm open to sensible offers.

Further information.

Current mileage 94,000.

Oil cooler changed by Marks DTM September 2011....................only 17000 miles ago.

Air filter changed ......86003. November 2013.

Cooling system flushed............ 87659 miles June 2014............... 4.5 litres of GM red used for 50% mix.

Cambelt changed...14th July 2011.  (so four years is up) :-\........only 18000 miles ago though. :y

Water pump changed at the same time. Genuine VX part.

New Exide 71 AH battery fitted August 2014. Still with 3 years of warranty remaining.

Oil/filter ... front discs/pads/sensor wire......fuel filter...brake fluid all changed March 2015 at 92645 miles.

I should add that I haven't put a price because this is clearly not a FOR SALE thread. ::) ::)

You'll regret selling it. Whilst the Signum is a capable car, it's quite bland beside the Omega, especially inside. Also when your Signum is having the arches replaced, the Omega will stand a much better chance of still being solid.

I'm fortunate to be in financial position where it is not imperative that I sell.

A decent offer and she (The MV6) may find a new home.....otherwise she stays. :y

Room and storage is not an issue. :)

Yep.....and devoid of a V6 exhaust note that should make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

It's functional. A derv version would be even more dull.

She also has after market rear parking sensors. The first owner was a girlie so I'm guessing they were fitted to save her new car from those 'little accidents' that the ladies are so fond of.

Bless her cotton socks. :-* :-* :-* :)

Oil and filter changed every 3000 miles in my ownership.

But very nearly as quick real world with 40 mpg economy and still V6 :y
