Title: Fill up and go
Post by: EMD on 19 November 2015, 12:32:32
But you still have to get out of the car and use your legs and arms to fill up  ;D TB mite like this if it was at another station  :-\
Scoll down to the cartoon  ::)

Looks far too complicated for an old fart like me. Download an App? enter a code? Scan something? Far quicker to enter my card code. :y :y :y

Whether this becomes the norm of refuelling or not will come down to one thing, I suspect - whether the fuel vendor makes more money in

a - the selling of this technology to tech-conscious punters with a thirst for speed and alleged ease of use
vs
b - the money they make using the current system where people 'just' buy their fags, chocy bar, nappies, magazine etc as they pay for their fuel

or.. when option 'c' appears - ie: this 'contactless/app/thingy refuelling system' plus a BP/Shell/Tesco-driven app offering you a spot of online shopping while you wait for the fuel to go in your vehicle.

Getting that prediction down in black and white now, so I can claim original copyright when the ants take over, and only the brightest humans are allowed to live.  :y

AIUI noone has ever been blown to smithereens by a mobile phone on a forecourt. Nylon clothes, pumps with sprug handles, and getting in and out while its running however... Kaboom!

Indeed... Real reason for the "ban" is 2 fold... Distraction and because it can interfere with the pump displays  ;)

A great many filling station towers (the price sign) contain mobile masts ;)

Plus, of course, most attendants are on their mobiles anyway :-X ::)

Shell have been pushing fill and go for 3 or 4 months this way. But not valid for LPG though, with no sensible reason given to me by staff.

Additionally, they also have had an attended service for the past year or more this way, but only between certain hours, which they are rolling out nationally.  Again, the old git at Towcester never seems keen on the LPG stuff.

So for petrol/diesel, you can fill up around Brakkers and MK without getting out of the car.

Attended service at Shell Sunbury too, but he won't touch LPG either.  >:(

I think the attended is now rolled out nationally. Around here they will do LPG for you :y They'll also put Petrol into your Diesel tank for you too :-X ::)

Compared to what else is going on these days, really does not matter.

I might have to try fill up and go for the bike, could prove useful.

The local buggers at Tesco here were always on the tanoy when I used Pay at Pump...

"Would the gentleman at pump 6 please dismount your motorcycle when refuelling please"

Why?

So you have a head start if it goes kaboom. That extra two seconds of dismounting would make all the difference. Duh.

Powered by Paypal? Does that mean someone has to pay Paypal a fee per transaction?

Obvious plus point for this system going by the cartoon is that as you fill up it also dispenses a knock out gas into vehicle to shut noisy kids up :D ;D

Whatever payment method is used, the retailer has to pay a fee, no matter who the retailer is.

I personally refuse to sign up for the pay & go @ She'll. If you read thebsmallprint properly, it says that they can take money from your PayPal account whenever they want. How kin before something goes wrong and they take a lot more and you have to argue to get it back, or they debit the wrong account, or it does not go through properly and you get accused of driving off without paying, etc....

Sorry, I will stay with going to the counter and paying, will not do pay at pump either.

Most ASDA filling stations round here are unmanned.

The asda I use is unmanned. It's got a sign on each pump saying that, if you have difficulties, to call a colleague. Good luck with that.

Over in the corner is a 'hut' with loads of kill switches on it, and a big red telephone. Puts you straight through to Barack Obama I think.  ;D

The vast majority of Asda are. As are Tescos after hours etc....
