Title: Thoughts on scoobies?
Post by: Gaffers on 29 February 2016, 21:20:40
Been to test drive a 2009 Subaru Legacy TD today and Iwas very impressed.  Pulled like a train and did not seem like deisel at all.  Liking the room in the boot for my fishing trips as well as the drive quality/comfort.

Any thoughts from the membership?

They've taken a leaf out of Mitsubishi's business plan and manage to make a fairly expensive car feel really cheap. Parts prices are similarly horrendous.

Had a Subaru Forrester a 1999 model bought it in 2003 a 1 owner with full history,  was totally reliable  & servicing was very reasonable at the dealership, terrific engine had 41,000 miles when purchased , we sold it in 2012 with over 110,000 miles  on the clock same clutch etc only part we had replaced was one of the self levelling rear struts was around £300, would not hesitate in having any model from the Subaru range, never ever let us down.

Just checked the DVLA website & the old Forester is still taxed & tested with 159,716 miles at the last MOT so pretty good I'd say..before I bought the Panda for SWMBO I had my eye on an Impreza for her but she preferred the Fiat ,damn shame.

I have ways fancied one too but with my current milage I cannot justify it.

One negative of getting the scooby would be saying goodbye to kitty :'(

I have a feeling a mate of mine, who had one, was getting low 20's on a commute, so yes, probably so.

This is the 2.0 diesel, much better on running costs than the imprezzas.

Well i picked her up last night and the first thing i noticed were the headlights.  Firk me they are good!  The seats are comfy but i cant seem to get a good height for the elbows to rest on something, i shall have to continue playing with seat position. I also decided to have a little fun with the wet and the 4 wheel drive. Nice and responsive, good pickup but less feedback than i was expecting. I was happy with the 41mpg though, despite the asbo driving style ::)

I am sure you will enjoy it, personally I think they are great cars I am just waiting for my neighbour to stop driving & I will be purchasing her 55 plate Forester which she has had from new, her son is an area sales manager for Subaru & her car has only done 21,000 miles with full history she is 84 now & has developed a serious eye condition, this will replace SWMBO Panda which I don't particularly enjoy driving.
