Title: Air con help
Post by: Jazzyj123 on 09 April 2016, 15:11:25
Need a bit of advice about dad's omega. He's taken it to have the headlights polished and the air con checked. They pressure tested the air con system and found it is leaking at one of the valves.
It's the valve circled in the picture below

There appears to be no valve inside the port. Just a ball cock. How easy is the valve to replace?

Very.  ;)

Takes 30 seconds, and regardless of what anyone says, the valve insert is available separately for less than a fiver... if garage wants to fit a new pipe then they should do so free of charge and they should pay for the pipe too as it's unnecessary to buy the complete pipe :y

I was told by countless people that it was the whole pipe until I removed it to show thhem what i wanted. Andy C provided me with a part number while I was stood in my local Vauxhall dealer that had just told me the same as everyone else  :y :y

The valve you require is readily available from gm, it's called (high pressure valve), the one above it too the left is the (low pressure) and a normal tyre core will do, the switch in the top right is pressure switch, about £60.

There is a guide in the relevant section, of how to change said valves and the gm part numbers. :y

You need a 17 mm spanner to support the fitting under neath while you use a 15mm socket in the valve itself (ask The Boy  ::) ::) ). The 15mm will be a tap on fit  :y

That is the high pressure switch, just visible, with two wires going to it, the valve circled is indeed about £5.00. Hp valve :y

So the part circled is the high pressure port and not the low pressure?
Either way will only cost a few quid to fix?
How do you put the valve in?

Sweet. Thank you all very much. It's odd that his car appears to have absolutely no valve in it at all at the moment

Ah ok. The ball still appears to be there but the air is pissing out past it. Is that the valve that's goosed or something else?

The hp valve can be cleaned, with carb cleaner. But tin of that costs'. £3.00, new valve is only £5.00 :P

I've already got some carb cleaner. Could it just be dirt caught in it then?
I guess it still needs removing for cleaning?

I was thinking that is probably the most cost effective option.
Only thing is when I look up "52458177" it keeps coming up with different part numbers aswell.
If we go into vauxhall and ask for 52458177 will they know what we mean?

Give the whole valve a good squirt of the cleaner. Every little helps! Wait for the cleaner to evaporate before you unscrew the valve.

A new valve is so cheap it makes no sense to reuse your old one.

Is there any point in cleaning it if we're changing the valve anyway?

Well... There is that :D

Nick makes a valid point though... Clean the area around it ;)

It's just like hydraulic or pneumatic systems, you don't want any dirt in there.

I'm guessing the removal an replacement is the same for all omegas no matter what engine?

Replaced mine last year cost me £3.96 and low pressure one is a tyre valve core. :y

Make sure you take the part number with you!!!  Vx Dealers do not like to sell the valve on it's own, at least the two in my area don't anyway!

It took me a couple of days of phone calls, including to Vx HQ to get the part that the Vx Dealer (Dan Harford, Kingswood, Bristol) who is less than half a mile from my house to acknowledge that they could sell me the valve separate from the complete pipe.

THEN, they had to call 'Drive Vauxhall', (Avon Street, Bristol) who had stock of the part, even though earlier in the week the ONLY valve they had was the schrader valve for the low pressure pipe.

They did accept my £4.odd and deliver it to my house free of charge though.

I can't see why Vauxhall seem to have problems with this valve .... it's the same valve that was fitted to my Astra's a/c
