Hiya guys need your advice again, my diff is pissing out through both half shaft seals and prop seal.
My question is am i good to buy another diff of say ebay? or does it need to be specifically of a 2.6 manual (im assuming being estate does not matter?)
also does 3.2 manual only come as a lsd?
thanks.

I believe all 3.2 manuals were police specials. Not many have LSDs, certainly mine has not.

2.6 Diff Saloon or Estate, same diff ratio, Auto to Manual different ratio.
3.2 Manuals, were only Police in UK, every 3,2 Police Ive come across wether Manual or Auto has had LSD, unless someone has nicked it.

Have you checked it ?, every 3.2 Police Ive come accross has had LSD Fitted, some of the older 3.0 didn't always come with LSD.

Car is OE03EWW, ex Thames Valley Police. bought in auction at West Oxfordshire Motor Auction, Witney March 2006. Before that I had an ex-police 3.0 Omega and four 24v Senators. Before that I had a Peugeot 505GTI family estate. The Peugeot had a limited slip differential, and I loved it. I went out in the ice and snow and it kept going everywherere, sideways some of the while. Sadly none of the Vauxhalls had LSDs. Haynes says a plate on the bottom of the diff would confirm, my car has no plate. It has an oil leak though, bother.

Just checked the police service record. in the 160K miles they had it, it had 4 new clutches and a prop shaft, but no differential. This diff looks old enough, and is still silent, grateful for that, I changed 2 on Senators for noise.

ok so i know on my previous thread we were talking about rear diff ratios and so on, if i stay with my 2.6 diff and stick a 3.2 in it am i gonna see a slower or higher acceleration as i know the revs will sit higher at same speed on a 2.6 diff with 3,2 engine.
also would this one be ok for mine?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231994305482?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
it dosent say if its from an auto or manual but i am assuming its from auto so my question is would that be better or worse off for me to have it in my omega? at the moment its 2.6 manual but soon should be 3.2
thanks again guys :D

Will confirm in the morning, but the gearbox ratios vary as well as final drive ones... But off the top of my head, 2.6 manual and 3.2 auto are both 3.9:1 ;)
-
o ok i see thanks, so really i need a 3.2 manual box too with a 3.2 rear diff?
and if you could advise if i stay with my 2.6 manual box and 2.6 diff with a 3.2 engine what am i gonna be getting, i.e very poor mpg due to poor ratios or ?

Tbh I wouldn't worry about swapping the box tbh... Manual 3.2 runs a 3.7:1 diff, so not much in it... So expect it to be the same as currently :y

You've probably got next to no chance of finding a Manual Box and with matching Diff from a 3.2, but they were the same Box and Diff that was fitted to the 3.0 Manual (Diff wont be LSD unless it was specifically from an Ex Plod).
On the 3.0 / 3.2 Manual Box Diffs are 3.7, on Auto Box Diffs 3.9.
Not sure about your 2.6 as unknown what it is your trying to achieve when talking about changing your ratios. But heres an example for a 3.0 / 3.2 Manual Box (3.7) that has had the Diff ratio swapped from a Auto (3.9), acceleration will be slightly improved, MPG will be worse and in Top Gear the car will be reving at 3000 rpm (instead of 2650 rpm) at 70 mph, the later will, by the way, drive you mad on a Motorway Cruise.

Ive had 2 x OV03 3.2 from TVP, Josh also had OV03 as well as PaulK, they all had LSD fitted and working, have you tested it with the TC off, I personally wouldn't pay too much attention to the Haynes thing on later Police Omegas, my money if its a TVP 3.2 it was fitted LSD and either its not working or its been swooped out. :-\

Maybe it's stopped working, but it's nothing like the Peugeot was. I was worried about the 4 clutches it had, and the one that came with the car soon began to slip too, but I put that down to a driver at Abingdon driving with a foot over the clutch. Have re-checked, there is no mention of a diff change in the service record. There is something funny about the TC switch wiring, which I understand is police practice.

Hmm, Ive heard this before from people about Police disabling the TC Button (So it cant be switched off), never come across it myself, TC button works as normal, and Ive had quiet a few Ex Plods now.
The reason I mentioned snitching the TC off is, you cant really test whether the LSD is working as it should with the TC on. ;)

Cheers for the answers all I was really concerned was when I do my 3.2 engine swap into my omega was that I didn't want it to end up being worse off with the 2.6 box and diff (of that makes sence) but by the looks it'll be alright and hopefully motorway speeds won't be too much of a bother I hope lol

Should not be a problem. Previous owner of my 2.5 silver estate, forum member ajsphead, replaced a dodgy diff with one out of a diesel Omega, probably different final drive ratio, but as the speedo takes info from abs ring on drive shaft it does not matter. It would on an auto, taking info trom gearbox input shaft abs ring.

Not so Terry...
All Omega Bs get their vehicle speed from the Abs wheel sensors via the Abs ecu.
The auto box has a gearbox speed sensor in order to prevent catastrophic gearchanges such as preventing manual downshifts at too high rpm :y

Thank you. I stand corrected.

On the subject of 3.2 manual gearboxes they were fitted with an r30 box with longer ratios that the r28 fitted to 3.0 manual.

Read somewhere the stronger R30 box was fitted to the 2.5DTi 24V Diesel lump which we never got in the UK, so would king of make sense if they are on the 3.2 V6's to change the ratios to suit a petrol.
Not sure if its the same gearbox complete or a R30 Internals fitted to the R28 Housing though.

I think the only difference between manual gearboxes are the stronger ones have shot peened internals

Yes, I've heard this too.
