FFS !. . .have I been rough . . . spent 2 days in hospital last week & just back from another 3 days in there since Monday with kidney stones !
Never known pain & agony like it :'( :'( :'( Morphine came to the rescue though :o :o
Docs have done a temporary fix until they can do a full op in a few weeks time .
For those who want the gory details . . tube from one kidney to the bladder was blocked by a stone . .
Everything they do is inserted through & retrieved through "The Old Chap" :'( :'( :'(
Thankfully can only be done with a general anesthetic . .& was ::)
Recovering now . . .but have to go & view a replacement Omega in the morning . . SWMBO cannot understand why that is so important :D :D :D

Friend of mine has just been told he has several stones between 6mm and 10mm and will all be pulled out through his .... What did make me whince was when he said they leave a tube up there attached to a bit of string which they pull out a few days later.

I thought they tired to break them up before you attempted to pass them?

P*ssing broken glass :'(
I used to work in theatre's where they did lot's of op's via " the old chap" the smell of an electrically shaved out prostate gland has never left me :o
-
Andy, I'm sure that I remember reading or seeing on telly that in most cases they can use ultrasonics from outside the body to disintegrate the stones, which then get absorbed/passed naturally?
Ron.

Yes ..... that's what I thought too. Fortunately I've never been in that situation :)

Hi Al, Hate to say this. Urology is my pet subject. Not a doctor but been involved for years. You're in good hands I know some of the people in your local hospital.
Urinary stones are one of the most painful conditions, ever. It used to be a favourite ploy of junkies to turn up at a hospital complaining of renal colic so they would get a shot.
Treatment depends on location of stone, and also what it is made of. Small stone they may just wait and see if it passes, or ureteroscopy, or ESWL (Extra Corporeal Shockwave Lithotripsy) or a combination.
The good news is that although really painful, it's not really nasty like cancer.
However it's well known that calculi are caused by excessive guitar playing of Shadows songs ;D

It,s a sheath up ya Chinese eye into ya bladder :o, then another from there to your kidney :'(. They then grab hold of it/them and zap with laser or ultra sonics :D. Then you wait for bits to find their way out au natural. If you,re lucky you get to go home same day or it,s a night in ward. Mine was bloody agony, ended have pain relief up me ,arris. I.ve had stones four times so far plus the above procedure and the urologist also said to expect more as i have a high calcium count. Happy days and i DO feel your pain Al.

I recall once watching a guy I worked with passing a kidney stone and I've never seen someone suffer like that in my life .
I was told on Monday that I have to urgently have my Gall Bladder removed due to 30mm stone within and was petrified when told in case I could suffer the same .
Surgeon explained the difference ........but it'll be out within the week.
Good luck with your treatment and recovery . :y

Swmbo had a 12 mm gallstone stuck in a 6mm bile duct. That hurt ! It was there for 2 years, as hospital failed to spot the problem, during several emergency admissions. ::)

My sister has just been diagnosed with the same. Don't know how they missed it on your missus, my sis was yellow with jaundice and in agony. They removed the stone that was blocking the common bile duct by endoscopy, the rest can wait, apparently.

Many emergency admissions, unbearable agony. Treated with Morphine until it eased of, then sent home. After 2 years a simple ultra sound showed the problem, plus a very manky gallbladder. Attempts to remove the stones from the duct only resulted in a perforated duodenum, which is potentially fatal apparently. 9 days of nil by mouth followed, when they said they would have another go in a week or so.
At that point we went private. All was sorted in a few days. ::)

Ease up with these horror stories guys . . I still have to go back in :o :o

I had my gall bladder removed via key hole surgery 9 years ago. Not too bad but I did go private at the time.
Funny thing was that I asked the Consultant how long it would take to get back to normal life after the op to which he replied:
"If you feel like playing tennis, then go and play tennis"
My response:
"That would be a miracle as I haven;t ever felt like playing tennis before" ;D

Everybody just loves a good medical story :y
Don't worry Al, it easy peasy ;) Really
-
Yes, Al, it will be fine. When they removed my brain, I didn't feel a thing. :)
-
Had my Gall Bladder removed by keyhole around 3 years ago as totally blocked with stones.
In hospital for 2 days then few days light duties....metal staples being removed were the worst part at local clinic so advise is ask for proper stitches .
Mine was the result of far too much French cheese for too many years..now try and avoid anything fatty.
Good luck Al...you will be fine and back swinging that strat soon :o
-
My wife has just gone through the agony of having a,wisdom tooth put in.Shame ;D ;D
-
Part of my, previously mentioned job in theatres , was for me to ask the patient before the op if they wanted to keep their gallstones, I recall one old chap answered strangely" Oh yes I want to give them to my grandson" before I could engage my brain I responded with " Wouldn't he rather have a Werthers original?" the anesthetist at least thought it was funny...unlike my boss or the patient :'(
After the op I would need to cut open the removed gallbladder to send it off fo histology, the gallstones were all different, some like gravel and some like sphere's but one I recall was like a perfect cube made of glass.

Al get well soon good buddy, let us know about new mig if its a goer. :y
