Kidney Stones
« on: 07 September 2016, 21:36:24 »

FFS !. . .have I  been rough  . . .  spent 2 days in hospital last week   & just back from another 3 days in there since Monday with kidney stones !

Never known pain & agony like it  :'( :'( :'(   Morphine came to the rescue though  :o :o

Docs have done a temporary fix until they can do a full op in a few weeks time .

For those who want the gory details  . . tube from one kidney to the bladder was blocked by a stone  . .

Everything they do is inserted through & retrieved  through "The Old Chap"   :'( :'( :'(

Thankfully can only be done with a general anesthetic . .& was    ::)

Recovering now  . . .but have to go & view a replacement Omega in the morning  . . SWMBO cannot understand why that is so important   :D :D :D

My answer was ; gotta go  . .made an appointment  . . .&  good ones are getting hard to find  . . nuff said  ;D ;D

Last note ;  feeling not too bad tonight now . .. . but peein' what looks like  rhubarb juice  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Friend of mine has just been told he has several stones between 6mm and 10mm and will all be pulled out through his .... What did make me whince was when he said they leave a tube up there attached to a bit of string which they pull out a few days later.

I thought they tired to break them up before you attempted to pass them?

Andy, I'm sure that I remember reading or seeing on telly that in most cases they can use ultrasonics from outside the body to disintegrate the stones, which then get absorbed/passed naturally?

Ron.

Hi Al, Hate to say this. Urology is my pet subject. Not a doctor but been involved for years. You're in good hands I know some of the people in your local hospital.

Urinary stones are one of the most painful conditions, ever. It used to be a favourite ploy of junkies to turn up at a hospital complaining of renal colic so they would get a shot.

Treatment depends on location of stone, and also what it is made of. Small stone they may just wait and see if it passes, or ureteroscopy, or ESWL (Extra Corporeal Shockwave Lithotripsy) or a combination.

The good news is that although really painful, it's not really nasty like cancer.

However it's well known that calculi are caused by excessive guitar playing of Shadows songs  ;D

It,s a sheath up ya Chinese eye into ya bladder :o, then another from there to your kidney :'(. They then grab hold of it/them and zap with laser or ultra sonics :D. Then you wait for bits to find their way out au natural. If you,re lucky you get to go home same day or it,s a night in ward. Mine was bloody agony, ended have pain relief up me ,arris. I.ve had stones four times so far plus the above procedure and the urologist also said to expect more as i have a high calcium count. Happy days and i DO feel your pain Al.
