....assuming the shit turns up, it was ordered last week on a 3 day delivery, still not here >:(
We need to swap out some non-redundant network gear, which will involve an outage of approx. 2hrs, and a series of outages of less than 2 mins each.
Its too cold to mess about with cars anyway, so hope the outages will be nothing more than a minor inconvenience. If you need a guide for this weekend, I'd recommend printing it off :)

Not good enough. I demand a refund. >:(

Ta for the warning - though I'll still forget and start stomping about in a paddy...
-
No don't do it!!!!! That means and this doesn't bear thinking about.......
I have to make conversation with swmbo

Some of us have stuff to do.

Ah, Network Gear, per chance the bit that talks to the Outside World?
Does this mean I might be able to post as normal, rather than having to bounce my IP half way around the Planet. ;D :P

Sadly, no, as that issue is with your service provider I'm afraid.
In the coming weeks there are plans to start to move towards https which likely will improve your specific situation (and to stop those mongrels who love Google's shitty Chrome browser from losing access), though its going to cause people using old computers and software some pain :'(
-
On my tablet some sites tell me my browser is out of date... no shit, I have had it at least six years ;D
Use Chrome on the phone, if only because that's the browser it chose... and IE on the laptop...
My browser choice is simple: Does it allow me to browse the web? If the answer is yes, then all is well ;D
Joking aside, try replacing the Hamster with a Tibetan Terrier puppy... more energy than edf :o
As ever your efforts are genuinely appreciated :y

I,m still running this laptop (it,s all i have, bloody Ludite) on XP. Chrome keep informing me when i fire up that it,s no longer supported so just keep going and hope. ;)

I'm afraid to say you might be Donald Ducked in the coming weeks. I did post up a while ago what options might work when we make the change, can't remember what/if the XP options were.

If it does go tits up will have to pay my lads train fare from up north to sort me out. ;D

Took a bit longer than planned, as unexpected networking issues encountered. I'll open a ticket with the vendor tomorrow, so no doubt will be some tweaking over the next couple of weeks >:(

Although it looks like we have finally resolved the TMobile issue, we still need to press ahead with the security enhancements in the coming weeks, which will mean users of old software and browsers will loose access. Sorry.

Yep, thanks for that one,....... now just leave the bloody thing alone! ;D :P :-*

Of the mainstream browsers, IE and Chrome definitely work on XP. All but the oldest versions of FF *may* work. Your mileage may vary.
We cannot carry on supporting unsupported software indefinitely, and Google are making sure that life will become a pain in the arse for everyone - but then they are what the claim not to be, evil ;)

I might be wrong on Chrome, conflicting info (and sod all directly from Google). But you'd be a bit soft in the head to run Chrome on any version of Windows, let alone broken ones like XP.
Old smartphones, including old Gooseberries, original iPhone, old Android and Win CE based Windows are also out of luck.
Generally, if you are running a currently supported OS and a currently supported browser, you should be OK

I keep reading the subject line as "Advance warning, outrage this weekend".
Must be the times we live in. ;)

I'm on Win7 and FF 51 64-bit. Is that OK? :-\ :-\ :-\

Generally what happens when OOF'ers are forced off the internet and into face to face conversations with their nearest and dearest. ;D
Or is that just me?! :o

No, there's generally much more outrage online than when we meet up*. I blame the alcohol for that.

Chrome on Windows makes a sieve look solid. And is the underlying OS (Windows XP) hasn't had its discovered flaws for 3 years now, its not entirely difficult for scrotebags to install nasty software on your machine.

I've just had a flashback, and come out in a cold sweat ;D

I think it's safe to assume ronnyd is probably already part of a botnet, given the XP, Chrome, and inexperienced user trifecta (sorry Ronny!) ;)

FF51 is the current release, so I can't imagine that wouldn't be supported here; it's supported by Mozilla.
Technically Windows 7 is out of Support but is still supported by security patches until 2020 - http://uk.pcmag.com/operating-systems-and-platforms/38918/news/mainstream-windows-7-support-ends-today-but-dont-panic
Oh, Firefox 52 (due out in March) will be the next Extended Support Release if such things are important to you, likely as a home user you'll just continue to upgrade until FF end support for Windows 7 (not anytime soon) https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/faq/

I assume he meant the "will it still work with OOF" perspective (and I can't see you knowingly breaking support for the most recent version of Firefox, somehow).. although I reckon the answer is the same for both.
Which reminds me. Non redundant network gear? What kind of half baked data centre are you running out of your house :P ;D

;D ;D I was hoping all my gear would keep the (integral) garage warm, but it doesn't seem to. Might actually have to move it all to the loft so that it doesn't ingest fibreglass dust when I'm sanding the body of the plastic fantastic kit car.. (yes, I'm actually making progress, shocking I know! ;D)

Hmm. Lofts can get awfully hot in summer. Cupboard under the stairs. :y
Looking forward to a ride in the snake this summer then. :y

One that doesn't mean OOF Members are required to contribute towards the cost of ownership and running it, be it through Paid Membership, Adverts or other forms of Fee's. :P ;) :y

There has been a big push towards energy efficiency in servers over the last 7 or 8yrs (all OOF's existing physical servers are less than that... ...and the 4th shiney addition was only dispatched today).
So, no, it doesn't stop her grumbling about the cold ;D
Though as one of the cats is poorly - we think he might have lost a face-up to a squirrel or a fox - I've turn the temp up to keep him warm. Because I'm a big softie.

Cowboys R Us.
The front end router that ultimately connects to the internet (and which has a bug I need to report in that it can't route, and another around L2TP possibly related to first) is a single point of failure I'm afraid. And not the only one, as we found out when the storage server went a bit mental a few weeks ago when I tried to maintenance on of the disks ;D

Whilst Win7 is still officially supported by MS (2020), we will do our utmost to support it.
Up to date FF/IE/Chrome (for those with some pages stuck together) should also be OK when running on a currently supported OS.
Its (currently) XP that's going to be problematic, as the core OS doesn't support something we need to implement.

That's no excuse zirk and you know it. I demand a referendum! ;D ;)

Jesus don't let that get out, will you ;)

We could sell you something for that, you know... and I know for a fact that a pair of fully loaded 4800s would keep most of your house toasty warm! :D
