Time for a poll, I shall add it in a moment.
-
I personally think Labour have small pockets of very loud left wing support, I think UKIP going to Conservative, traditional Labour not voting for Corbyn because he does not represent them and lastly the swing to Conservatives for Brexit.
So I'm going for conservative win and hoping this is true....

Because I'm sad and need to get out more, my idea of fun a fortnight ago was to write on a piece of paper how many seats I thought the parties would get.
Tories - currently on 330. Will go up to 397
Labour - currently on 232. Will drop to 168
Libdems - currently on 8. Will rise to 17
SNP - currently on 56. Will drop to 44
P. Cymru - currently on 0. Will stay on 0
UKIP - currently on 0. Will stay on 0
I'm much less confident of these figures than I was a fortnight ago, but we shall see. :-\
-
I think the outcome will be pretty much the current Status Quo.
The tories have completely and utterly failed to capitalise on the open goal they had when they called the election and, despite the total incompetence of the likes of Abbot, Labour have probably crawled back up from the doldrums they were looking likely to be in. The remainder of parties look like an irrelevance, really.
I suspect May won't have got the majority she wanted to drive through her Brexit plans unopposed, but at least she will probably end up with some sort of mandate.
In other words, it's all been pretty much a total waste of time. ::)
It has exposed the quality of our current political class on both sides of the house, though, and that doesn't bode well at all. :(
-
Unfortunately, the current system is a self serving closed shop... yes we get to vote for our councils and MPs, but ultimately to change the system it would need doing from the foundations up.
The only way this might have happened, would be to close Westminster and the Monarchy, and conceed EVERYTHING to Brussels.
Then, and only then could we have a meaningful revolution and the opportunity to start from scratch.
Be warned though... the new boss will be the same as the old boss :-X

Thirty years ago your idea of fun would have been how many girls you were going to inseminate on Saturday night and how you would 'lose' the cops in your Chevette 2300HS.

I voted minority for Conservatives.
On various other forums I am picking up that voting may well be influenced by Brexit. For example. Die hard Tory voter that voted Remain, will vote Labour because of Tory dogma on Brexit. Wouldn't surprise me if Labour won. The polls are full of fickle folk (like The Boy) who admit they say one thing but vote the other. Hence why they aren't right anymore.
Another factor many of us are blissfully unaware of is the very effective behind the scenes campaigning via social media.
-
Weather man says dry in the south tomorrow and a lot of rain up north. This will help the Tories.

Why on earth would a die hard Tory have voted remain :-\

Don't know why but I'm really interested in the numbers in this election, much hype has been put in BBC and on social media of an 'extra one million voters' which are, apparently, going to swing this election. But the BBC has listed the top 10 seats which have seen the biggest increases. I've gone through and look at who holds these seats and by how much:
Leeds NW - LIB (36%) vs 30% Labour
Bethnal Green and Bow - LAB 61%
Poplar & Limehouse - LAB 58%
Leeds Central - LAB 55%
Wolverhampton SE - LAB 55%
Bristol West - LAB 35%, Green 26%.
Brighton Pavilion - Green 41%, LAB 27
Canterbury - CON 42.9%, LAB 24%
Tooting - LAB 55%
Bath - CON 37%, LIB 29%, LAB 13%
Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/election-2017-40178571 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/election-2017-40178571)
6 of the 10 are already safe Labour seats, so increase of 5/10/15% in these seats makes sod all difference to the election. (assuming LAB support) - But for the ones Labour don't hold: Canterbury had 53k turn out, BBC reports 10% increase here. So 5.3k extra votes, but the majority by the CON's is 9.7k. (this is without a UKIP switch to CON)
Similar with Brighton, which is a heavy green hold and increase could not alter the green majority. (assuming green's keep their vote)
So Labour could only take from what I can see Leeds North West, these extra votes don't appear to be in the seats Labour need to save. :-\
-
I think the Tories will win with a slightly increased majority. :-\
I have to say though that I don't think I've ever been so worried at the outcome of a General Election and the prospects of the country thereafter. :( The thought of Corbyn and McDonnell in Downing Street makes me feel physically ill. :(

Snap.
But see my earlier post on numbers for new voters, gives me some confidence all this new hype won't have much impact over-all.
-
I personally can't see anything other than a Conservative majority with more seats than now but not the landslide predicted 6 weeks ago. A very poor Conservative campaign has ensured that, which has also again highlighted May's serial failure as a politician. Her poor judgement does not bode well for a good outcome to the Brexit negotiations. ??? ??? ???
IMO being a "bloody difficult woman" (or man) and a good politician is an oxymoron! :-[

There is that.... ;D

Corbyn might do well enough for him to decide to stay as Labour leader after the election. In that scenario I think there is a good chance the party will actually split in two again. Bring it on. :)
-
If/when the tories win, we will probably witness the death throes of the NHS and a drop in educational standards. Are we all looking forward to that?

In addition to this, i've been looking at the YouGov poll, which makes biggest view of a hung parliament.

Just randomly checking labour swing seats, they are over-coming some huge majorities. :o
I wonder if it was all a ploy to get Conservative voters out
-
Why on earth would you say that ? ! ???
Labour did more privatising of the NHS than the Tories have ever done. My view on it is that it is broken, unfixable ,hugely wasteful and needs to start again with a clean sheet of paper. However, no politician has the balls to reform it properly, and certainly wouldn't dare to get rid of it or privatise it.
A drop in educational standards by reintroducing Grammar schools across the country ? They were the main tool for social mobility for bright working class kids in the post war period. Abolished by socialist dogma which dictates that we are all the same and should all be taught the same.
It is a long running experiment which resulted in abject failure decades ago.

Arguing with that would turn into a labour v tory thing, with diametrically opposed views. I'm not going there. You've had recent, first hand experience of the NHS, I have a daily experience of what's happening in schools.

As an NHS worker I believe you 100% Ste it's a gonner if they remain, I cannot honestly believe the ignorance around the whole country on that topic.
As an aside I've handed out several food vouchers today to once proud families who are literally on the breadline and have absolutely no other option to feed their children. The Tory's will just grind the working classes further into the dust should they remain, as is their absolute intention.
I'll see you all on the other side, whatever colour it is

Really quite an absurd statement. I mean, why ? What would they gain ? Who would benefit ? Even in the worst days of medieval feudalism it was in the interest of the rulers to have workers that could work and produce. Was this something just picked out of the pages of Socialist Worker magazine or something ? ??? Ah well . . . . as you say, on the other side ::)
-
Ive voted, imo, what the result might be....as we all know what the polls predicated for the outcome of the referendum and what happened at that vote ::) :-\
-
My experience of the NHS started almost 20years ago and continued until recently. I saw the start of a sharp decline under labour and it hasn't stopped since. Ime it is a lot less to do with funding and much more to do with the vested interests (from top to bottom) who get a living from it.
Remember Mid Staffs and the many other similar scandals which happened under labour ?
No political party will put the NHS right. They will just keep chucking even more of our money at it, and try to outdo each other, in how much they can waste on it. That wont begin to solve its problems though.
I cant imagine you believe the last labour govt. did a great job sorting the problems in education.
Besides all that, the two most important things for the next few years are Brexit and the economy. I don't think anyone could objectively argue that labour can be trusted with either of those.
-
Any further discussion is a bit pointless now. I think everyone who intends to vote has made up their minds. :)
-
Your probably right. ;)
-
And, just to reiterate, my posts on here have purely to put an alternative point of view, not in support of Labour. I would like to see a caring, socialist government in power, but not this bunch of chancers.
-
If somebody had the balls to say they would close the NHS, I would vote for them tomorrow. But they won't, as the British public can't see that it doesn't, and will never work.
Its that same belief of an absurdly high number of British thickos that money grows on trees that scares me about tomorrow, ensuring I will go out and vote tactically tomorrow to stop Corbyn's Labour.
-

I wasn't going to bother 2 weeks ago. In the same way I wasn't going to bother on the EU referendum.

SNP: 51

I had Plaid Cymru knocking on the door today. Locally I support them (to some extent) but they are never going to run the whole country, and a vote for them dilutes the votes for the major parties. So, sorry boyos, no vote from me.
Regrettably, pretty much the same situation exists for any party that does not have a realistic chance of actually winning. So voting for say Monster Raving Loony, or Greens or whatever, simply reduces the votes for a party that could actually do the job. Unfortunate, but true.
-
My constituency is one of the safest Tory seats in the country. Therefore I can afford to be a bit fast & loose with my vote.
The referendum was called due to pressure on Cameron from UKIP, so if UKIP still get a reasonably decent number of votes it will keep pressure on the Govt. to deliver real Brexit, rather than some kind of fake Brexit. So, with all that in mind, I will be voting UKIP again, probably for the last time.
-
I had some Tory activists (Tory ultra safe seat) knock on my door earlier, so I gave them some jip about the appalling complacent Tory campaign. ::)
If some Labour activists had knocked on my door (unlikely!) I'd have given them some momentum..... down the freaking road! ;D

This is true. Probably due to the fact that Aaron Banks lost patience with them and withdrew his funding. I cant say I blame him.
Its may well be a forlorn hope, but as a brexiteer in a very safe Tory seat, it makes sense for me to do it.

I first voted in the 1979 general election as a callow nineteen year old. My vote went to 'Sunny Jim Callaghan'
Clearly enough people didn't agree with me because the election was won by a deranged wild-eyed woman with blood dripping from her teeth.
Her name escapes me now. :)

The problem is, the country, including Brackley, is full of very stupid people - look at the EU referendum - and they are spreading fast.
So I *MUST* vote, just to do my small bit to ensure Corbyn isn't our PM tomorrow. And if that means tactically voting blue or even yellow, so be it :(
-
Just had an email from the Conservatives stating that they have had reports from across the country that turn-out is very heavy and given the tightness of the polls every vote is vital.
They have mine of course, but a bit worried about the heavy turn-out; the "experts" have said recently that a heavy turn-out could hand an advantage to Labour :o :o
-
Well I've just done my bit to keep the inept, irresponsible and incompetents out of Downing Street! :y
Not Labour or Conservative then ::)

Now an email to me from the Head Girl:
Dear Elizabeth,
With a few hours left in this campaign, I wanted to say thank you for all your support so far in the campaign – and to ask you for one last favour.
We know that huge numbers of people are voting in this election – and that many seats will come down to a handful of votes.
So please – in these last few hours, can you make sure you’ve voted, and make sure all your friends and family have voted too.
Give them a call, knock on their door, or even offer to give them a lift or walk with them to the polling station. Polls close at 10pm.
Every vote will count Elizabeth, so please let’s do all we can to secure a stronger Britain with a Conservative Government.
Thank you for your support,
Rt Hon. Theresa May MP
Theresa May
Prime Minister and Leader of the Conservative Party
Is she showing signs of desperation? I bloody hope that is unfounded!! :o :o :o

The polls heavily down-weight young votes, as they don't usually show up.
But Corbyn appears to have them all stoked up, if they turn up, could be a shock

Its easy to get the 18-22yr old vote, just say you'll magically do away with tuition fees, using the money the fairies bring from their money trees.

Down here our local news has mentioned that there have been queues of young voters at the University of Kent :o :o

Remember that younguns are profound Twitterattis, Facebookers etc. The amount of Pro Corbyn Pro Labour stuff I've seen is staggering. Admittedly a lot of it is laughable, but nevertheless . . . . . I've had to be very careful. I have some very lefty friends with whom I dare not even start to discuss politics. ::)

•A vote in both Houses of Parliament on the “final agreement” for Brexit

•The right to ask employers for up to a year of unpaid leave from work to care for relatives.
•Spend at least two per cent of GDP on defence and increase the budget by at least 0.5% above inflation in every year of the new parliament.

My reply may have seemed flippant, Rob, but the truth is that there's no point going over it now. People have voted and we get what the majority wants.

Just sat down after a very hectic day, the worst part was the SIL passing away, (the second one in three months) so SWMBO has had a shitty time of late. Anyway, i digress, just realised that i havn,t voted yet but then saw that my Tory MP had a majority of over 21k so thought, sod it, why bother. :y

Sorry to hear that, Ronny. :(

Corbyn is just about the best opponent Theresa could have hoped for. He is an old leftie who still thinks we live in 1974.
If she can't beat Corbyn then she doesn't deserve to be PM.
I think a half decent opponent such as Andy Burnham (yes I know he's a scouser but they can't all be 'on the rob' ::))and Saint Theresa could have had problems.
My prediction......an easy win for the Conservatives. :-\

I think one of our Barnsley MP's, Dan Jarvis, should have a punt at the leadership. He's very inexperienced but he has five years to learn.

Thanks STEMO :y

Fixed. :y
I think May will win a majority and step down before the next election.

May`s manifesto
.....
Where`s the money coming from???
Well, as it's Blue spending, that'll be Strong and Stable fiscal governance. If it's red spending, it's a magic money tree apparently. ::)

I've always liked Hilary Benn whenever I've heard him speak on a topic. Know very little about him though (other than family tree obviously).

He just won't sit right with labour voters, posh bastid and all that.
-
Well, it won't be long now. Are we all excited? ;D

True, I suppose he would have worked had Blair never existed, as it is, any appeal to the centre draws immediate comparison and consequently, oblivion at the ballot box.

Voting all over, now a case of waiting for the results. :)
-
It's not looking good for the tories so far. Biggest party but no overall majority. Only exit polls, of course.

Bah... It's the count that counts, not the BBCs imagination ;)

Yeah...keep on believing.....right up until the very last result comes in, just like Paddy Ashdown did. ;D

Well...I need to get to kip. Lad has his first A level tomorrow. See you on the other side.

I'll only devote brain effort to this at about 10am tomorrow when it's fact not conjecture.
