I've just helped my lad to apply for his first one, and paid for it of course ::) and the site says up to six weeks. Just wondering if anyone has real world experience.
-
Ive always gone down there and got it same day, but I live near London,
You can get Express treatment, same, next day, Courier etc, it costs, and I've never tried that.
-
I renewed mine last month. Took about 3 weeks. I don't know if the renewal process is quicker or slower than a completely new application though.
-
Thanks. I was in no hurry...until last Monday when he suddenly announced that he wasn't staying at home when he goes to Sheffield uni, ha was going to live in halls :o Sent me into a state of panic.

He needs a passport to get into Sheffield? Must be worse up then than I'd always thought. ;D

He needs a passport to open the necessary doors for a current account and the like. He really is a PITA, he could have told me this news months ago, and given me time to put things in place.
Personally, I don't think he'll cope, with his Aspergers and all. I could have spent months teaching him the necessary life skills, cleaning, cooking etc., but now I only have 6 weeks, and we're away for a week of that. BAH!

I have six passports.
Works well.

Sounds about right leaving everything to the last minute...
My eldest has just left school, wanted to open a bank account, but didnt want to be there to do it, he thought Id do it for him.... I told him to grow up and deal with something for once....

How long does it take to show him how to make beans on toast ;D
Which is, incidentally, a very balanced meal ;)

And not one of them British :D
-
Don't they ask a certain number of applicants for new passports to attend an interview or some such to verify they are who they say they are? I'm sure I heard something along those lines a few years ago.

I'll lend one to STMO's boy if he'll pop across to Amsterdam and bring me back a package. ::) ::) :)

True. It gets a bit 'samey' after the first three weeks, though.
-
This time of year due to the holiday rush normally has the longest lead-in times. Allowing 3-4 weeks would be reasonable. I've always found it worth paying the few extra pounds to get your local Post Office to check it and send it off as that saves any delays from a stupid mistake on the application. :y :y :y

Yep, me too. Apparently, the accommodation comprises of single, en suite rooms with shared kitchen and tv room between five rooms. Fickin luxury.
When I were a teenager, I had to live in a cardboard box in the attic. Me dad used to open the hatch and throw me a piece of stale bread once a week....if I was lucky. I had to drink out of the cold water tank..and shit in it too. Don't know they're fickin born nowadays.

And as a parent, whose fault is that... ::)

Had similar with my lad who has just done his first year at Uni. Phone rings "Hello Dad, just been offered a weeks working holiday in Florida, reporting on a big poker tournament. Can you find my passport for me ?"
Ring him back 5 minutes later. " Found it, and it ran out 6 months ago. No I cant sort it out for you. As your going in a weeks time you need to get yourself down that London and sort it out sharpish,. And while your there, visit the U.S. embassy and ask them for a visa. ::)
When I saw his student digs, I thought "this would do me nicely". ;D
Fings aint what they used to be.

Enough to know that you don't carpet the box in the attic or provide hot water :D

If he's going to university, he needs to sort it out himself. Or he's not ready for university.
I have these issues with my kids (now 24 and 21). They'll let you stress and do all the research when it's them that should be doing it, and taking the stress on.

No. just 2 of my nephews and nieces and another (much younger) has autism and adhd .
To be honest they both have control issues and wouldn't let their parents sort it for them.
I may however be borderline hence my posts being a bit idiotty - sorry.
