Of course she is, as is Grotty Thumbox.
Not that either are doing much complaining about it :-X

I don't deny that the climate is changing, but it has done for millions of years, We've had ice ages, heat times, and massive earth movements, I blame nature, and you can't stop it.. Thumberger needs to look at her carbon footprint before shouting, as do all the other eco-warriors,, We do need to stop using single use plastic, use more recycle-able materials, as for all driving milk floats, they are too expensive for the average jo-public, and as they enter the second hand market they aren't that cheap due to needing new batteries, and they also aren't very DIY fixable due to batteries etc,.

No one on here thinks she's being manipulated because, the post had only been up thirty minutes and there's 'no one on here'.

One or other of them may be right or wrong, but at least half the worlds schookids aren't awake with nightmares every night because of what this one is saying.
Problem with little grimbo is, that much of what she says could easily be taken apart, but everyone is too afraid to upset her.

There is a big problem here. Most people do not disagree that something needs to be done, but....to do as Extinction Rebellion or Thunberg say we should do, we would immediately kill everyone on the planet by either starving them to death or freezing them to death.
It's no good banning stuff without a viable replacement.

The Greta phenomenon is incredible! Like the second coming or something. ::)
Did you see the crowds in Bristol yesterday who turned out in the rain to see their Messiah? ???

And work. There were lots of middle class Mums and Dads taking their little Tarquin's and Amelia's to see the Messiah in the family 4x4! ::)

There was a time I would have got really angry about this. And lots of other things. But, these days, I'm doing a lot of shoulder shrugging. F**k them all, let them get on with it.

Yes, but when you put that argument hand in hand (as many many people do) with "well we can't make a difference anyway" you have a self-fulfilling prophecy that says we do nothing.

If you look at what allegedly adult media types have said about her, you'll see that's total bullsh!t. If you look at the way a lot of these adults berate and harang a child, its pretty shameful. Or would be if they had any decency. ::)

I sincerely believe, Jimmy, that we will never find a viable alternative for fossil fuels. Not in the necessary timescale, anyway. I also believe that, even if the UK was totally carbon neutral in ten years, if would make absolutely no difference to the world at large. China and the US have no intention of cutting emissions in the short, or even medium, term.
Fatalistic? Maybe. Realistic? Definitely.
-
I wouldn't be so sure on the china front. They know that at the moment they have massive reliance on oil imports from the likes of Russia, middle east etc, they only have 1-2% of the world's oil reserves and at present they need far more.
They are looking to be a world leader in renewables because it will give them a massive advantage on the medium/long term world stage and they're investing big.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/dominicdudley/2019/01/11/china-renewable-energy-superpower/ (https://www.forbes.com/sites/dominicdudley/2019/01/11/china-renewable-energy-superpower/)
I don't know about the bigger picture, but I do think there are plenty of economies around the world that would like to not be reliant on the less than savoury regimes that hold the majority of the world's fossil fuel reserves.

Im not talking about adult media types. Im talking about the people who run the world. They wont disagree with her because shes a little girl with a lot of followers.
By the way, she isn't a child shes a 17 year old. If you more or less declare yourself the new messiah when your 17, you should expect as many people to hate you as love you.
Personally, Im suspicious of the motives of her parents.

We should also wonder at the motives of those who fund her as well. :-X

I have not watched a Sailing Vagabond video on YouTube, and since they posted one about sailing Gretan back across the Atlantic, basically a video selfy full of self abuse, I have no intention of ever starting, as that is how these work shy morons make money.
Similarly I won't ever watch one of Hubnuts videos... No opposing way that I am going to help fund his swanning around NZ. Odious prick.

Do I detect a hint of jealousy there? ??? ::)
If Hubnut makes money from his harmless videos and he gets to travel the world doing it, then bleddy good luck to him I say! :y

The only thing climate change has done is make an awfull lot of people rich, especially governments, as they have found it as a good revenue stream that people don't complain about.,, I'd love to see how much carbon these activists dump jetting around the world preaching.

Tell that to the thousands with flooded homes and businesses that will not recover for many months, if ever ::) ::)
-
Farmers have some of the most fertile land going. In no small part because it floods and gets covered with mineral rich alluvial soil.
People stupid enough to buy houses on flood plains without considering the possibility of flooding are as much to blame as the developers imho.

But many who have had land flooded have lost use of the land for months because it is so saturated and is covered in muck. Not me saying that, but farmers programmes about this issue. These give you a gist of the challenges they face:

Just be ready for a shortage, and an increase in the prices, of various produce. ::) ;)

There's a shortage,, let's put prices up, No we'll just import more from Europe :y Keeps me in a job either way .
When I was boy working on farms in the winter we would go out with bill hooks, sthyces, shovels and an old fordson with a back actor on, clearing ditches, digging cleats, removing self planted trees, and fields were moled every 1-2 years, drove past the farm while back,, you guessed it, standing water in some fields,, Mm wonder why.
Farmers don't clear ditches as much now due to EU regulations, and lack of workers to do so, also water companies got rid of local drainage boards to save money and pay share-holders. The EVAgency need to stand accountable for the total under investment,, dykes and rivers use to get dredged regular, the spoil put on the bank tops,, Now with environmental concerns not done as a small vole might be de-housed, or it might cost a few quid.... And breathe.. :)

Surely the fault lies with the planners allowing building on flood plains? There is a desperate shortage of houses.. people have to live somewhere.
Good post BigGriffin
Lets go further. Why arent the big rivers dredged by large dredgers.? If there is a convern over nature do the left one year and the right the next.
Why not build cast concrete walls rather than relying on temporary metal barriers.?
There is an interesting item on euronews.com of the future of farming in Europe. Maybe Boris is right about abandoning farmers and buying all our food in. Not sure how that would work in a war........

Britain hasn't been self-sufficient in food for 200 years, when the population was a fifth of what it is now. It's the real reason for rationing during and after the war, and why Britain had the largest navy, as without shipping from Europe, the Empire(eg: Canada was particularly important for wheat) and the rest of the world the population would have starved and industry would have had no materials.

She seems to have a good idea of what she’s talking about. I know which one I would like to shag err sorry ::) believe. :y

Yes, both you Varche and DG are right on that one.
Far too often houses are being built where they should never be, and stupid people are buying them even though any intelligence they have should tell them flooding is a very real possibility. In those cases it may well be very difficult, if not impossible, to get building or contents insurance . But still they build them and people buy them. ::) ::)
This we are seeing around Ashford, where whole swathes of flood plain have been built on. However, as you say Varche, people need housing; they must live somewhere. But thanks to the NIMBY lobby so often it can prove very difficult to build houses on large amounts of land. This is another real problem down here in the South East.
As for the existing houses built on flood plain, and the correct observation by biggriffen about farmers clearing ditches, we are where we are and there MUST be a dramatic re-think of government policy. It is impossible for the Environment Agency to build flood protection schemes everywhere, so yes the ditches, streams and rivers must be made to cope with additional amounts of water. Many farmers have commented how dredging of rivers has not been done in recent years, due to cuts/willpower, but they cannot physically do more than clear their own drainage ditches.
With Climate Change a fact, no matter how caused, it is also fact that the atmosphere is holding far more moisture than in recent times at least, so we are getting a higher amount of rainfall (in the South East alone February 2020 was the wettest since records began, by a massive degree) . So central action is now required to allow high levels of spending to assist all relevant parties to act on building the required measures to keep the land drained as much as possible, whilst ceasing the building of homes on any land at risk of flooding. No one can act like a King Canute (who actually knew he could not hold back the sea, but was proving a point about the limitations of him as a King - a lesson those home owners complaining about the Environment Agency / Government could take on board!) but action now, in addition to measures already being taken, is a solution. ;)

Flooding everywhere when it rains for a while and droughts when it’s sunny for a while...... mm now let me think..... maybe a few more strategically placed reservoirs? Maybe even build in places where it doesn’t flood? .. renovate housing where it doesn’t flood instead of building elsewhere? Maybe build a few energy producing dams, that’s two birds with one stone :y. Make a new canal system to help with transport, there’s probably lots of common sense things that can be done. I agree the climate is changing, but I don’t think there is a lot we can do about it, it’s a planet thing, we can probably help a little bit but I doubt we will stop or delay by much what is going to happen unfortunately .
