Purchased £25,000 pounds worth 12 months ago , total winnings to date £175 so not too bad..😄
-
Vanguard LifeStrategy 60% Equity fund (high risk) up 16.19% in the past 12 months, so £25K would have 'winnings' of £4047.
Vanguard LifeStrategy 20% Equity fund (low risk) up 4.38% in the past 12 months, so £25K would have 'winnings' of £1095.
You've lent the money to the Govt for them to pi55 up the wall in return for 0.7% return.
Inflation has been 3% or so for the past year, so any rate of return less than 3% is effectively losing you money. Premium bonds are a mugs game.
I'm out.

I ain't greedy & know nothing about stocks & shares got plenty stashed away £175 will pay for a nice evening out.

£25K in Yorkshire Building Society would earnt 6.2% P.A. ::) (10 years ago)
Same now might get 0.5% P.A. :(
How times have changed :(

Yes I know we've both got ISAs up to the limit no debts + our income far exceeds our outgoings don't trust shares know too many who have lost money, so just fancied a gamble & if I want cash it's there for us .
-
I hope for your sake it's nearer the 14% mines at than the sub 1% Premium bonds gave you :o

£20k on lottery tickets would have been a better bet ;D

I lost a shit load of money with The Wellesley.
I knew there was risk but I still think the fund managers could have done better. It seems they would lend to just about anyone. :-X :-X
Ah well......at least I still have my good looks. ;D

Yes that's the gamble , putting another £25,000 in mine which will take me to the maximum holding & wifey is putting £50,000 to open a holding from a recent property sale, as Del Boy used to say " this time next year we could be millionaires" 😄😄😄

Or you could by some tyres for the RRS ;D

Fund Managers? Wellesley were peer to peer lenders, who morphed into property backed bonds. And then basically have gone bankrupt. It looks like you may get back 44p of every £1 you leant them.
A real fund cannot go 'bankrupt' because it typically buys shares in dozens of publically quoted companies. Some of those companies may go bust, some may go nowhere and some may boom to many times their original value. But the funds value is simply the sum of the shares it owns at any time. For it to go bust the value of all the shares it owns must be zero. If companies like BP, Shell, British Gas etc all suddenly end up with shares of zero value then the world as we know it has ended, so the value of your investments becomes irrelevant - you'll need tins of baked beans and shotgun cartridges.
Lending money to the govt at sub inflation interest rates is stupid IMV. The govt can just print bank notes to give you your money back. The very act of printing the money devalues what your money is really worth. It also inflates share prices, and hence fund prices.
The Lottery and premium bonds are simply a tax on the stupid. Of course you might win the big prize. I'm betting you won't though. £175 may buy you a slap up meal in a good resturaunt. £4000 will buy you a slap up meal in a decent resturaunt every night for a week or more on a world cruise (other ideas of ideal holidays exist).

LCO 112G , please don't concern yourself about my finances I'm more than happy with our financial position wouldn't take advice from anybody at my age, I've come this far and am sitting pretty.
As for being stupid I think you may be very surprised.

I agree.
Premium bonds 'can' give a good return if the investor gets lucky.
Nothing 'stupid' about buying premium bonds as part of a financial package. :y
Not quite sure what LCO112G is trying to achieve here. :-\

You could win enough to go on a holiday somewhere exotic, Mick. Then spend all of your time posting on here while you were there. ;D ;D

I'm perfectly happy with other people buying PB's, since as I've explained ultimately it inflates share prices and therefore increases the returns that I get on my share based assets. It also reduces the taxes I have to pay. I'm just making sure everyone understand that the decision to buy PB's is better for other people than it is for you - unless you win the big prize - which you won't.
I won't invest in things I don't understand, and there are plenty of things I don't understand (VCT's for instance). OEIC/Unit Trust funds are easy to understand, and carry much less risk than single share investing. You don't have to understand share investing to buy funds.
Anyway, if it makes you happy to buy PB's carry on. I've disclosed how you are subsidising me.

I looked in to trying them and after a bit of home work I found out they have have a few registered companys and thought they might lose funds amongst them.

The problem is; We moan about the constant stream of woke stories, but it's exactly the same listening to you in the opposite direction. The incessant news broadcasts about this kind of stuff make me switch to another channel. On here it's easier to log out for a while.

Another 3 wins in this month's draw super pressies this Christmas 🎄🎄🎄

Don't be so cruel Dave!! :o :o :o ;D ;D ;D
But, I know some on here do not and that is why they jump to conclusions on what I have actually said. ::) ::)
However, it is not personal as many threads / posts on the OOF are not read or even responded to which have made many give up on contributing in the first place. :D :D ;)
Shame, but such is life on social media! ::) ::) ;)

My mum bought several Premium Bonds way back in 1956 when they first started and hasn't won a single bean. Well, when I say this, I assume that it's up to the individual to check for themselves as obviously there was no internet or email back then to check or be notified. It only reminded me when I read this thread and looked in their safe and found them.
She could have missed out but hey ho, it wouldn't do her any good now. It would have just been more that the care companies could have taken off her.

All on line now so simple, informed of wins by email & winnings paid straight into allocated bank account, only had ours for about a year now but had several wins this month's being the biggest so far..

My mum bought a fivers worth when they first became available died at 96yr old & never won a thing.

So we'll never know if she missed out for all of those years. Bit late in the day to register her details now but, as you say, email has made it much easier to be notified. :y

What I don't get is the need for anyone to to post about how much money they have invested in various products, how much money they are intending to invest, returns on some of these investments and 'wins' - it comes across as 'gloating' to me, I'm sorry. Some of us are surviving adequately on our incomes, some are comfortable, and obviously some have newfound wealth that they feel they have to talk publicly about. Some have worked hard, invested well, and seen good returns over the years, so every credit to them; some have purely inherited a large chunk of their wealth - again fair play to them, but please - keep it to yourself, and refrain from 'crowing' about how much money you have (that's how it comes across to me). There are at least 7 such references in this topic alone.
I liken it to the one lad who brags about how many girls he has had, when in reality........
I have had in excess of 12k in returns from investments so far this calender year (which I wouldn't dream of bragging about normally) so all this talk about how much money (or little on the face of it) has been received doesn't do anyone any favours.
Sorry, I apologise if my comments offend anyone, but I had to say it......
-
If we are bragging then I am trying to get my hands on a brand new Aston Martin Valkyrie ::) ::)
Just cant decide on Matchbox or Dinky :-X

Well,,, if we’re bragging I want to get my hands and lips around a nice pair of firm juicy ... erm what they called now🤪

I was bought some when I was very young. Not a penny.

One of my £1/0/0d premium bonds bought in 1965 has come up twice with wins; £30 and £50 respectively if I remember correctly - it was sooooooon spent!! ::) ::) ;D ;D
