Morning! This is what it looks like up here today.
What is the weather like where you are?
https://www.lochmorlich.com/webcam (https://www.lochmorlich.com/webcam)
8) 8)
-
Light breeze and sunny :y
-
Considerably breezier here than that webcam ;D
-
Been out with doggie, as usual, bright and breezy, nothing untoward yet.
-
pretty blowy here today with 70MPH winds predicted ,
Fencing repair jobs etc next week I expect :D
-
Light wind & blue skies here, walked the dog already as it's forecast to turn wet & windy this afternoon, so couple of beers & a film this afternoon..👌
-
Lots of rain overnight, Windy now and again, bright n breezy at the moment :y
-
22C and sunny here, no wind.
All change for one day tomorrow as we get the tail end of your storm Eunice for one day then back to normal.
-
The wind just took a window off the top of swmbos greenhouse. Its trying to blow the gates open (or off) on the drive which is a bit of a worry as the Boxster is parked just the other side of them. ::)
-
Er, blustery... ::)
Currently sustained winds of 45mph and gusts of 80 mph interspersed with rain... When the wind eases off enough for it to fall down :D
-
Nice and windy here. So far 1 big tree branch in the middle of the garden and 3 fence panels in bits.
-

Gusts of 95mph here this morning, pretty wild :-X

If my neighbours rotton old fence makes it through this it'll be a freakin miracle. :D

Won't take them long to get here then...

I have jammed the gates open as they looked like they were going to come off the wall.
Meanwhile the fence at the end of the garden has come down and taken the washing line post with it.
Could do without the aggro, but some people will be hit much harder.
-
Lost one panel and a post. The post was already rotten and supported by said panel... which itself was cosmetic as it covered the back of a wall in next doors garden. Both can wait, as have a couple more panels/posts to attend to on the list for warmer weather.
And at least now, I can actually get a fence post in the car without a saw :D

Just buy concrete posts
fit and forget ,I refuse to fit wooden posts anymore
decent (maybe last 4 years) wooden post £10 ,concrete £15

Windmills were generating 42% of our electricity needs this morning, far higher than at any other time. We need a storm Eunice every day.

We're getting 8 or so years from the wooden ones. With the advantage that you can screw the panels in. Prerequisite is that the panels aren't drop in ones. ;)

If a post fails, simply unbolt, dig out the remnants and bolt the new post in :y

Thats quite low, which is no surprise because in these high winds the windmills have to feather the blades and reduce output (to protect them from the gusts)
-
Surprisingly, the bit of fence that I was expecting to let go, due to a rotten post, is holding up fell (famous last words).
However, the fence between me and my neighbour clearly has 3 failed posts, and if they last another hour, I'm buying a lotto ticket.

Quite low? Wind power only accounted for 24% in 2020

Thats total energy produced over the year, not peak, in theory there is enough to supply almost the entire demand under ideal conditions, last I saw there was over 25GW of installed capability (demand is about 25GW at night and high 30's in the day, so they should be able to hit 60%+ even at Peek load) :y

I see.
What are ideal conditions, a storm every day? ;D

According to The Independent, 42% is 'staggering':
Wind energy generated a staggering 42 per cent of all electricity in Great Britain on Friday morning as Storm Eunice battered the coastline.
Millions have been urged to stay at home as the Met Office issued a red "danger to life" warning across parts of the country including London.
But one silver lining from the Eunice's strong winds has been a major surge in electricity generated at wind farms.
National Grid figures reported at 8.30am showed wind as by far the largest electricity source in Great Britain at 42 per cent.
Fossil fuel natural gas was the second biggest generator at 22 per cent, and nuclear third at 15 per cent.
The 42 per cent figure for wind – 14.4 gigawatts in total – compares to the renewable resource generating an average of 19.3 per cent of electricity on average across the year.
So.....I'm staggered

Update, wind seems to be easing and it's still there. :o
-
there's some white van man types trying to refit 1x5 meter polycarb panels back on the school lean too roof here :o
I'd have waited till the wind eased a bit :D
-
It wasn't so very long ago there was talk of all 'renewables' accounting for only 2-3% of energy needs.

Even the high wind was too much for one of the windmills / wind turbines a couple of days ago....:o

We lost one in Grimethorpe about a year ago. It didn't come down, one of the sails snapped and cut a big scar into the tower. SSE have taken it all down except for the base, don't know if they'll bother putting it up again.
The damaged sail was left hanging on by that fibreglass looking stuff, whatever it is.

Been out to the garage to bring some bits in both bins blown over but fence still there ..
-
I had a couple of plant pots blown over... :o ::)
Although it was pretty windy here and the sea was rough, I don't think Storm Eunice lived up to the billing to be honest. :-\
Seen far far worse. :y

One of my concrete posts has snapped at ground level, it's been up about ten years. The reinforcement rods inside the post are bent at an angle so the arris rails both sides of the post have come out of their slots. The arris rails either side go in at a very slight angle to follow the curve of the drive so I'll double post it when I repair it.

You could say 'overblown'..... ::)

.....like that sniffle from the east. ::)

Twenty year old... I've never seen anything like it. No shit, you're twenty...
Fiftyish woke lefty... I'm actually making a film about climate change. If we don't do something, these will be getting more and more frequent... Nothing to do with the Jet stream then???
-
Ah yes climate change. Seen that mentioned a few times today! ::)
It'll be a surprise to some, especially the metropolitan lentil munching yoghurt knitting millennial types, but winter gales really aren't that uncommon particularly if you live in the West of the country. :)

Shove this one up your aerosol ;D

Hmm so when we stop burning stuff to keep warm and get around, we'll end up like Kevin Costner in Water World? :-\ :D
-
Solar panels are very affordable now. £150 250watts , just need sun.
-
Our Waitrose delivery driver bottled it today due to the strong breeze, so I went and collected the shopping instead.
It cost me about £6 in petrol but they refunded me £15 and gave me a nice bunch of flowers for swmbo for my trouble.
Made my day. :D
-
Fantastic snow scenes today at Loch Morlich and the Cairngorms. 8) 8) 8)
-
Nice and sunny here in Newcastle , it's actually warm in the sunshine ! Spring is on it's way :)

It certainly is. About May ;D
-
Horrible here today cold & very wet.
-
Sun's out here in West Suffolk, still a cold wind though. Brr
-
I was trying to get some electricity in the Shag, but the wind kept blowing the boot open and closed
-
I was in the pub. So everything was fine :D
-
Flippin' wind here is mental this morning. Wish I hadn't dragged all the bins and furniture from the garage yesterday.
Yet still my neighbours fence is still up*, as is mine.
Had to reseat a dislodged roof tile on the garage yesterday.
*in the loose sense.

An end ridge tile has blown off my daughters house in Bicester. Luckily no one was hurt as she was just putting the little one in the car at the time. She doesn't have much luck with storms, as when she lived in Aylesbury a bolt of lightening blew a chunk of render off the house next door, and it landed on the roof of her car. ::)

Very windy here all last night & most of today calmed down about an hour ago, couple of trees down last night but not too near to us .

When I lived in Aylesbury, I had people land on my car, following the usual punch ups at kicking out time. And it was often not 2 blokes fighting, but a pair of old diesel dykes...

You mean Ladies in sensible shoes... :D

One of the wife's colleagues posted a picture on WhatsApp of a new housing development in Oughtibridge, built to about three feet above foundations, under a foot of water. How the fûck are these developments allowed? And how are they allowed to sell them?
That picture should be in every estate agents window in Sheffield.
-
The Council should be made to live there... Thems the dick heads that overrule the Environment Agency and approve them >:(
No different around here.
-
There was a development near here a decade or so ago, built at the bottom of a bowl.
"it floods there" said the locals, but planning knew best.
6 months later, the water was up to the letterboxes and the whole lot got demolished again. ::)
