Went to Junction 32 retail park this aft. Mrs wandered into Next saying, "We could do with a new sofa, and they have some good ex displays in here". Saw one (which, I admit, was good value) at £990, reduced from £2750. Decided we'd have it, found a young shop assistant and went off to pay. Debit card in machine, £990 debited, lovely jubbly.
Not quite. "When are you picking it up?". "What?" Here are the business cards of two local companies who will pick it up and deliver it. It has to be gone in two days.
No mention of this before we paid, manager called. 'dangle berries' the young assistant for not telling us and asks if we'd like a refund. Yes, please, I'm not ringing the local man and van, hoping he can fit me in. I thought this was Next, not Joe's Junk Shop.
Refund given, that will be back in your bank within a week. Mrs wants to know why I'm walking around the shops with a fûckin face on me. >:(

I can already hear the heavy sighs that Mrs STEMO will emit every time she sits down next to you on the old soda! ;D
You'd better get down to DFS quickly if you want some peace and quiet! :-X ::) :D

All for a soda ;D

You should have just sucked it up and called Man-With-A-Van.... :)
Your life will become intolerable until Mrs STEMO has her new sofa! ;D

You've now established that you are willing to buy a new sofa, so it's only a matter of time. :y

Roof rack on the faithful Astra & a couple of straps would have done the job, I've seen eastern Europeans clear a whole house like that..😂

We can safely assume she never looks at OOF then. ::) ;D

And I take it you have her permission to say so :D :D

Before long you'll be settling down on your new sofa, wondering how TF did this happen! :P ;D

Surely the people who manufacture furniture wouldn't make it too big to go through a standard 6'6"x 2'6" door, Phil?

;D ;D ;D Faceache, twátter, maybe teacher forums, not OOF.

I said I was happy to buy the fickin thing, didn't I? Just not having the local pikey turning up in a flatbed with a rain sodden sofa on the back. I have standards to maintain, don't you know? ;D

That's after you've moved a pile of massive cushions and the cat.

Got my money back this morning. For some strange reason I felt grateful :-\

That moves project We Need A New Sofa into the next stage:
He's already proved he'll spend some money on one
Which means:
He can be persuaded to spend more money on one
Which means:
I can now look at £3000 sofas with a clear conscience - which isn't necessary, but it is nice to have.
Which means:
Yay, lots of lovely shopping opportunities :-* And he hates those, so he'll probably stretch to spending £4k
Which means:
It's only a few days until Saturday!!!
You are so screwed ;D

She has a cooling off period. Lads two year late graduation on Thursday, and off for a week away on Saturday, so she may have forgotten about it when we get back. You think? Maybe? :-X

How many furniture shops do you think are on the way? How many more are there on the alternative way back? Ask her, she already knows....

No fikin chance! ;D
You'll be wishing you'd called the man with the van! :)

No delivery..... :-X
We had a new 3 piece arrive a few months ago only it wasn't the one we ordered. It was a slightly different style and a slightly different colour. Close enough for me not to care.
Anyway, Mrs Opti wasn't happy so I contacted them to arrange for collection.
Two weeks they said.
Fine I said, I'll leave it outside in the rain. Pick it up when you are ready.
I'll have a word with the manager she said, but you'll be responsible for any damage.
I won't. You sent the wrong item.
Hold on while I speak to the manager.
Five minutes later she ruturns .......20% discount if you keep it.
My wife doesn't like the colour but if we can agree on 30% we have a deal.
Mrs Opti was happy enough once I told her she now had £660 she can spend on something else. :)

Uncle STEMO should take you along when he next goes sofa shopping! ;D

It can cost quite a bit for them to collect a sofa that they will probably have to sell as a 'second'.

It wasn't a purple sofa by any chance? ??? :D

Only if purple is a sort of blue/grey colour. :)

The one I nearly bought was beige. I thought it would match my beige carpet and beige curtains. Although the Mrs did say I might disappear on it wearing my beige trousers and beige cardigan.

DFS ! >:(
I bought a load of stuff from them a few years ago. In the shop nice smiley sales people. When it came to delivery they were utter b*****ds. Rude and totally inflexible. There was a short delay on completion date of our house, they absolutely refused to delay delivery date. Delivered to property being sold, I was left to get it all to the new one. I'll never buy from them again.
At exactly the same time I bought stuff from Oak Furniture Land, who were absolutely brilliant :y
-
We always buy our furniture from our locally owned family business, no pushy sales nonsense, dates are given correctly re delivery & excellent delivery staff & the quality is superb.
-
I bought my furniture from IKEA.
It came as completely expected. And the bits that were delivered were taken upstairs for me. Without argument. So I gave them a box of beer for their efforts.

Were the delivery people 25 years old, tall, blonde, leggy, and female?
Sweden prides itself on attractive women. Much like Barnsley. :)
