You'll be ok. You can get a thousand tins of Lidl beans for a tenner.

1000 tins of beanz. Is that safe for the environment? :-*

the 19.1% food inflation is based on many items,
the day to day food ordinary folk actually buy and eat has gone up considerably more

Tripe, luncheon meat and black pudding are a terrible price.

We order my dad his weekly shopping from Morrisons. We used to struggle to get the £40 minimum. Now we spend about £60 and no longer buy ready meals from Morrisons . It must be a problem for folk on a fixed income or no income. That and the ridiculous state of rent for accommodation.
-
£170 for us last week. ::)
Mind you, son is living at home at the moment and he must have hollow legs. Built like a racing snake, but never stops eating.
He stands at the fridge stuffing his face with whatever is in there, while he is deciding what he is actually going to have for a meal. This happens several times a day ::)
Swmbo is also a complete convert to Waitrose now ,so that doesnt help either. ;D
-
We like lots of fresh friut and veg, which seems to be the bits with the highest inflation on.
Still, its what "we" voted for...
-
Many of the items that make the 8.7% rate are items we don't buy from one week to the next, like a wide screen TV or fridge.
Food we buy and consume on a daily basis.
4 pints of milk was £1 until quite recently. Now £1.55....so a rise of 55%. Eggs much the same.
-
Tripe, luncheon meat and black pudding are a terrible price.
Presumably enjoyed with a large serving of bread and dripping. :D
-
Are Laptops included in the inflation basket for Lincolnshire households?
;D
-
I have no idea on grocery prices. I think I'd still banned from our big Tescos here....
-
That said, technically I'm still barred from the god awful Chequered Flag, no great loss given that piss tastes better and stronger than their draught beers. But I still go in....
-

Laptops seem to have a very limited life when placed in the hands of 'bunny boiler' women. ::)

As a piece of technology, surely women shouldn't be allowed near it. Female tecjnology peaked with the mangle....

I agree. Although females who can demonstrate they are responsible may be allowed access to an iron and ironing board.

I really can't see why they bother. Really hard life with loneliness causing mental health problems in quite a few. No money and no thanks.

Many top themselves.
Men under forty are also prone to suicide at a high rate.

Family pressure mostly, they get handed down "the family farm" and with it the responsibility of keeping it in the family for future generations. I think I've only met one set of farmers in my life who were happy with their lot, and they grow potatoes almost exclusively for Maccy's with a side hustle of petal confetti. :-*
-
Big burly farmer close to where my parents lived topped himself recently. He was 28.

Cannot be anything worse than financial issues, especially when working hard for very little rewards.

I've just been in the local CO OP, the Lurpak butter is in alarmed plastic cases which have to be opened at the till ;D
I haven't had a Ginsters pasty for ages, but I remember them being about £1. In the same CO OP, 50p off, £2 instead of £2.50.

More like toxic waste dipped in some sort of barely edible slurry. :-X

What's the deal with Lurpak butter? :-\
I've seen it's very expensive, but Lidl do Danepak and West Country (made in Caerphilly ;D) spreadable butter which are much cheaper and probably just as good? ???

I buy Lidl's Westcountry (made in Caerphilly! ;D) spreadable butter and it's fine! :y
Maybe I'll have to raid my piggy bank and do a Lurpak/Danepak/Westcountry (made in Caerphilly! ;D) spreadable butter taste test! :)

Some people with more money than sense are easily seduced by brand names. ::) :P
By the way Yorkshire tea is not actually grown in Yorkshire.

What! i have always thought of those tea pickers toiling so hard on the slopes around Ilkley :D. Though they do have plantations in Scotland and Cornwall.

There are some brands that are so much better than unbranded/budget:
Full fat coke
Heinz Beanz
Heinz cream of tomato soup
Sugar Puffs (or whatever they are called this week)*
McVities Digestives
HP Sauce
Stella Artois ;D
* though that might be I've only tried one lookalike, as can never find them - have enough trouble finding the branded ones

Tesco yeast extract tastes exactly the same.....probably because it is exactly the same.

Marmite has indeed got frickin expensive for left over brewery shite! :o :o
A medium jar was £3.09 in Lidl today up from £2.99 last week, and a large jar is now over a fiver! :o
-
Or a bloody great tub from the cash and carry is a fiver. Accept the fact Lidl and co aren't really any cheaper than anywhere else - especially as the big supermarkets, you know, those with choice and no queues at the checkout, now price match - and in reality probably costs more money in the long run....

A tub is 600g, med jar is 250g, so if the tub is less than £6.18, isn't that cheaper? I could be wrong, being the stoopid kid from the local comp....
Oh, and when I was down the local convenience shop (Tesco), I clocked the 250g jar of Marmite was £3.10, I'm guessing the main supermarket is the same price or cheaper. So I doubt I'll be driven to Lidl to save 1p...
A med jar does have the advantage that it doesn't encourage me to put tons of the stuff on my toast :)

Mrs tells me these secure plastic cases have cropped up on twitter. Apparently the Coop have steak in them as well. Plus, the jars of coffee on display are dummies, you take them to the till and exchange for full jars. Jeez...all quite depressing.
-
I know someone that works in a village co op. They have a no tackle policy if they see someone stealing. Now that is depressing.
The price inflation everywhere is depressing. Plenty of greedflation going on while the going is good. As someone said earlier, I bet the producers arent making great mark ups.
If you use a lot of olive oil , get some now and keep it in a cool, dark place. The price is going to go up as we have had a drought and unseasonally high temps so yet another poor harvest. ( the average Spaniard in our village uses about 12 litres each a year ( but no butter - food of the devil!).

Jar of coffee went from 200g to 190g. No explanation just 5% less coffee.

For years I've thought that a medium jar of Marmite was 300g. I checked the one in the cupboard and you're right it's 250g! :o
Everything's changed. My life has been turned upside down.... :( ;D
Downsizing is everywhere.
Jar of coffee went from 200g to 190g. No explanation just 5% less coffee.
It's known as Shrinkflation. :)

Or a bloody great tub from the cash and carry is a fiver. Accept the fact Lidl and co aren't really any cheaper than anywhere else - especially as the big supermarkets, you know, those with choice and no queues at the checkout, now price match - and in reality probably costs more money in the long run....

Just been reading that people are struggling with high mortgage rates, which now stand at around 5.5%. I can remember when i was paying over 17% in the early 80s. I suppose the only difference now is that the amounts that people are borrowing are far higher than they were back then, but wages are a lot higher now too, so are things still relative? Christ, i'm glad my mortgage is paid off. :)

8.7%......down from 10.1%
However, food inflation is 19.1% and we all have to eat. :-X
I've just been in the local CO OP, the Lurpak butter is in alarmed plastic cases which have to be opened at the till ;D
I haven't had a Ginsters pasty for ages, but I remember them being about £1. In the same CO OP, 50p off, £2 instead of £2.50.
What's the deal with Lurpak butter? :-\
I don't get it either. It's 'orrible. That style of butter is very popular across the channel

In the latest move towards a socialist utopia, a new system is being trialled in two areas of England and is already being tried in parts of Wales.
Its very simple. The state pays everyone £1600 per month whether they work or not.
Leaving aside where the money will come from when we are £ trillions in debt - this is bound to cause hyper inflation, cause the workshy to relax about ever having to do a days work, and take us down the road where the state will own the wealth and redistribute it to people depending on the criteria set by the state.
Its pure undiluted Marxism, being allowed to happen under a Tory Govt.
We really are doomed.
And no it isnt the 1st of April.

Well there’s nowhere left on this shithole of a planet they’ve fu@cked it up, so we’re stuck unless we can fk off to mars maybe🤣

Well they gave us £66 a month for our energy bills, so £1600 a month towards booze, drugs and hookers seems fair! :y

Growing up there was much talk about equality, especially equality of opportunity.
Now, the so called 'progressives' on the left have replaced the word equality with the word equity which is essentially equality of outcome and a total disaster.
We see this 'affirmative action' policy in the US education system so beloved by the democrats. :-\
