Hi all
How do you remove a water pump I taken the aux belt off but cannot get access to the pump?
Do I need to remove plenum and camcover?
Thanks
-
yup
-
Bugger!
May be to much for me then!
-
Ah sod it! in for a penny in for a pound I'm going to have a go now where are those distructions!!! :D
-
Is a 2.6 different from a 2.5 then?
I changed mine on the 2.5 without removing the cambelt cover. You do have to be careful not to drop any of the three torx headed bolts that hold the pump in position but a bit of grease in the socket head helps. :y

Hi Varche
I've removed the pulley cover but the actual pump appears to be behind the cam cover?
-
How do get to the small nut and bolt on the cam cover just behind the Aux pulley :o :o
-
Hi
From memory there are three small bolts - about 10 mm normal head that hold the pulley on the water pump. When you take those off THEN you can see into the recesses of the cam cover and just get at the TorX bolts that actually hold the pump onto the engine block.. Slim extn bar helps
have you got a new pump to fit? Or are you just renewing the seal? If you have a pump you will see where the torx bolts are.
Anyone confirm that the 2.5 and the 2.6 are the same in this area pls?

remove aux tensioner (2 E45 bolts)

Yes. 2.5 has a short plenum a 2.6 has a long plenum :y
-
Thanks for all the help guys.
Finally managed to remove cam cover and reveal the water pump! Me thinks I need a new tool kit as I cant seem to find a socet that will remove the pump bolts just keeps sliding round lol
So thats a job for another weekend.
:)

As said, they are torx type bolts,so you will need the correct size torx socket to remove them. ;)
-
You need a set of these http://www.draperproducts.co.uk/31379/Draper-31379-DRAPER-EXPERT-7-PIECE-SET-OF-DRAPER-TX-STAR-SOCKETS-ON-A-RAIL.html (http://www.draperproducts.co.uk/31379/Draper-31379-DRAPER-EXPERT-7-PIECE-SET-OF-DRAPER-TX-STAR-SOCKETS-ON-A-RAIL.html)

Thanks Andy H, I'll have to invest in a set! ;)
-
Having invested in the right tools the old water pump has been removed!
It there any maintenance I should do before fitting the new pump?
Cheers
-
Just clean the mating surfaces and put a bit of grease on them ;)
-
Did you remove the plenum ? I just realized that is was recommended.
Actually I never remove it when changing timing belt etc. I just remove the part
is it "Throttle Body"
-
Hi
Thanks Elite Pete!
I did remove the plenum not sure I needed too tho! May have been able to do it with just the Throttle Body removed
-
God I'm a crap machanic!!
I've removed and fitted the new water pump now I cant get the flipping timing belt cover back on. The bracket that holds the aux belt pulley is in the way and I cant force the cover down behind.
Any suggestions please!!!!!
-
Take the bracket off - two bolts round the corner IIRC, nose wet. :y
-
Thanks I'll have a look in the morning :y
-
Final piece of advice on this subject hopefully.
Need to replace the antifreeze which I can get from my local factors. Do I need to flush the system first?

You need to make sure you don't mix different types of anti-freeze in there ie long life pink with blue ethylene glycol, so if the new is the same as what was already in there, then no, you don't. But if they're different, yes you do! :y :y :y
-
Thanks Andy B for advice about antifreeze!!
I seem to remnoving a lot of bits at the moment trying to get this timing cover back on!!.
The auxilary bracket is this helpd on by the two largish torx bolts just on the corner of the engine block?????
-
Yup :y
-
Thanks and this does need to be removed? or is there another way
-
Just undo the two bolts and it comes off, and don't put it back on until you have the cam belt cover back on. :y
-
Cant belive it I think I've done it lol.
Just a flush out and refil with new coolant and jobs done :y

There's a guide somewhere if you need it, but when you have flushed through & you just have fresh water in the system, drain off what you can - which is about half the capacity - slowly pour in as much of your 5 litres of antifreeze, start the engine & top up as the level goes down and 'burp' the large hoses. The stat will open & the level will go down a bit more, top up what you can. Keep an eye on the level over the next day or so & top up as required. :y :y

Morning!
Almost there new coolants in cars upto temperature fans started coolants at the max mark
BUT!
I have cold air blowing though the vents temp set to high on both sides!
Any suggestions please!
Thanks
-
Air locked. Burp all the large hoses you can get to, but it should sort itself out by itself. ;)
-
Thank Andy B one more probably daft question should I be burping with the expansion cap on or off!!!! :-\
-
I'd leave it off, keep an eye on it :)
-
I did that and I've just had a shower of coolant from the expansion tank what am I doing wrong!
:o
-
Was the engine hot? Sorry should have warned you if it was hot to release cap, very, very slowly. Let it go cold, start it (with cap off) while burping it. As you do it, just keep an eye on the coolant bottle
-
Bugger, Seem to have loast all my coolant from the tank does this mean I need to start again with flushing and refillig with new coolant :'(
-
somethings a bit off if you lost everything from the coolant tank :o
You loose a little bit if its hot & pressure is released, but not that much!
Let it all go cold, top it up, then start it with cap off, burp it & let it settle
-
Tunnie, top up with water or coolant there's about and 1/2inch of coolant left on the tank!
:-\
-
Top it up with coolant - then as Tunnie says, start it from cold with cap off.Burp the hoses until it gets hot.Hopefully that will sort it. :y
-
Yes, always coolant, summer you can get away with water, but with weather now, always coolant in a 50:50 mix :y

ah! but can you? ::) As you know coolant isn't just anti-freeze, it's also a corrosion inhibitor which is especially needed in an engine with ally bits ;) ;) :y

You should always be very very careful removing the cap from a hot header tank/radiator. System is pressurised because the coolant has got hot & there's nowhere for the pressure to go - it's supposed to be like that (the cap has a relief valve in it)
