I wonder how much work it would take to make it roadworthy again.. they're known for chassis rot IIRC?
Still.. this is what I call a classic, none of those ropey old Fords ;) *hides*
-
It's strong money for one that's not got T&T but with that mileage it's not surprising. I'd be tempted if I had the spare wonga... Always wanted one ::)

Ditto, ever since I saw Back to the Future ;)

85MPH top end ain`t gonna get you there ;D
-
They were, of course a complete shed from new, and, given that it was a US import the crappy old PRV V6 will be even more asthmatic than the UK models were.
But.. You're right. It would be quite cool to drive round in one. 8)
-
They were one of the worst cars ever designed and built when they were new.I dread to think what a 30 year old one would be like. ::) ;D

Oh absolutely... They were a complete crock ;D
But I still want one ::) 8)

Oh yes - they definitely fall under "Would probably be a giant disappointment", but still; that bodywork, those doors, the undeniable 'cool' ..

Ahh, yes. The US speedo. ;D If they don't know how fast they're going, they won't speed. (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/26795734/Smilies/rofl.gif)
Had an 85MPH speedo on a 3.3 Chrysler hire car once. It pulled at least another 1,000 RPM past the end stop in top gear. ::) :-X

You will need to if Guy reads this...... :D :D :D
Just a thought, how did he get out of the car once he had driven it into the garage?
-
At least it's manual. There may be hope for it. I think that engine responds quite favourably to a bit of forced induction. :y
-
Gull wing doors actually need less space ;)
-
Oh, crikey! It's worse than I thought. 130BHP and 1230kg.
-
Back in the day,a mate of mine lived in a high rise flat overlooking the factory and the road alongside where they used to test them.
This was before they went on sale, and we agreed that they were a hideous looking contraption. The people who worked in the factory building them were open about the fact that the build quality was shite even by 1970,s standards.
The whole project was an unmitigated disaster which cost British taxpayers hundreds of millions. The only thing which made it cool was that film. They probaly used one in the film because they were given it, whereas a proper sportscar would have cost a few shekels. ::)

Aah - the bastaad that was the PRV V6. >:(
As fitted to the Volvo 760 I once had - there wasn't even a good sound out of it never mind a turn of speed. Prone to overheating, I cooked the engine in central London traffic relegating myself to the delightful front garden of a colleague’s house in Sunningdale to faf about doing the necessary repairs.
What a pig it was to work on into the bargain - especially given the rudimentary tools available and the 16 hour work days at the time still, happy days.

Crikey! Working on your car in public.. Not something that's "done" in Sunningdale, I'd have thought. Must have got a few curtains twitching. ;D
My parents had a 260, 760 and a Renault Espace all with that engine. Yes, they went through a few head gaskets between them IIRC. ;D
Can't recall what went into the 760 but earlier incarnations had an odd firing order due to a late design decision to make it into a V6 instead of a V8. ::) That didn't do much for the engine note or smoothness.
Here you go.. <shudder>

I bet Den just broke out into a cold sweat at the sight of that ;D

ISTR the front brakes were MKIII Cortina ............. but I'm willing to be corrected.
If you have that kind of money for a 'classic', buy a proper classic instead ;) ;)

but I suspect both of them would make an Omega look very fuel efficient. ::) ;D ;D ;D
-
I don't think I'm old enough to buy either of those, Andy.. plus I don't have the required pipe & slippers, unless they come with the cars? ;) ;D
Still, I will buy a Jag at some point soon - either a Series 2/3 or XJ40.. however it's only mission in life will be to serve as a parts donor for the next project, so it'll end it's life on my driveway and valiantly give of it's essence in order to produce something more fun.. :)

;D ;D You're right Aaron - that whole induction system had to come off just to change the thermostat. 8) not!

It was mostly Lotus-inspired running gear, so likely common stuff that's easily upgraded.
I reckon the DeLorean is a "proper" classic, TBH. Well known yet very few around. A whole generation will remember them. It doesn't have to be any good to be a classic, after all. Speaking of which, I popped in to Alton today to get another pot of emulsion <grr, decorating!> and spotted a Bond Bug. 8)

That sounds familiar, having just changed my MV6's thermostat. Progress, I guess. ;D

Kevin - I don't think I've ever seen a Bond Bug on the road! Actually.. I'm not sure I've even seen one at a show. I entirely agree about the DeLorean being a classic, too; it's an iconic car of an era and quite probably a generation of people. Well, at least the part of the generation that watched BttF :)
-
I do like those Jaguar straight 6 engines when they're all polished up. 8) They sound good too. Would have to put it into a car that's slightly less of a barge though. :-X

Given that I saw it negotiating a roundabout this one was only on the road through much buttock-clenching on the part of its' driver, I'm sure. ;D

I bet..
I like the description over at Wikipedia:
The Bond Bug was a small British two seat, three wheeled sports car of the 1970s
Sports car, eh...
At launch 29 bhp was claimed for the less expensive 700 and 700E models. The more up-market 700ES incorporated a redesigned cylinder head which permitted the compression ratio to be increased from 7.35:1 to a slightly less modest 8.4:1.[5] This provided a power increase to 31 bhp as well as improved torque for the then range topping 700ES
31bhp and three wheels, perfect recipe for a sports car! ;D
-
Only 395 kg though.
A colleague of mine was telling me about one he owned years ago. He decided to Vmax it on that gentle slope on the M3 by Fleet. Got it up to 90, apparently, then had to swerve to avoid some debris and next thing he knew he was skidding down the hard shoulder on his roof. ;D
He just climbed out, rolled it back onto its' wheels and carried on. :D

Still looking for that Hayabusa engine? :D

Only 395 kg though.
One of the reasons the chassis is tissue thin so easily rusts though :(
..... Got it up to 90, apparently, t....
The speed does go to 100mph ............ but only for the very brave. ;D
-
I did suggest blowing some of my redundancy payout on a Delorean, always loved em.
It didnt go down too well ;)
-
Does anyone remember the Delerium they had at the wim open day?
What an utter pile that was, mid restoration iirc, and clearly proving the phrase "you cant polish a...." awfull, truely awful. Classic? I saw an eposode of Blakes 7 on telly the other day! >:(
-

If you need a Sequential then the Stag kit will do it, just need to check on the reducer ;) May have to do a little modification to the petrol return system to make it work properly too ;)
-
Once I get mine fully sorted I'll speak to him about it next weekend when I visit oop north (Daz watch out)
Of course the conversion will take several months to complete and in that time it'll have to stay chez Guffer ::)

You could have
the real McCoy one of the real McCoys.

And those white walled tyres are just the finishing touch it needed. :-*

If I win the lottery this weekend you'll find me bidding on that :)
