Title: Omega engine troubles (BANG!)
Post by: roberts_1409 on 19 December 2011, 13:10:34
Hey, bought an Omega yesterday, had some engine trouble and it blew up on the way back home! Its a 2.5 V6 Auto, CDX. Anyone know of an engine that will fit it without having to change the box and wiring loom??
Thanks

What has "blown up" ?What engine trouble did you have?  Cambelt snapped?

Might not be as bad as you fear?

If it is then there are plenty of breakers on the forum that might have a 2.5 engine that would fit.

As long as the donor engine comes from a 2.5 omega then it drop straight in

it was making a loud tapping noise, sounded like it dropped a valve or little end rattling. Nursed it home with my grandad following me, it struggled gettin up a hill, and my grandad saw a big black cloud followed by a bright flash under the car!
Towed it the rest of the way cuz when tryin to start sounded like it locked up, but later I tried again and got it started somehow, but was rough as f**k

Thanks, I'll try look for them breakers

Cambelt still intact

any 2.5, Vectra or Omega will drop in once the manifolds have been substituted for the ones already on the car.

If an engine from an auto is used, then the 1st motion shaft bearing will need to be inserted into the rear of the crankshaft.

From a trader?

It's very tricky ground dealing with the Sale of Goods Act, but basically no trader can put "sold as seen" on a receipt. Well they can, but it has as much worth as me writing "anyone reading this post msut pay me £20".

Like Serek has said a Vectra engine needs to have the pump changed for an Omega one.

Also a 3.0 engine will also drop straight in as a swap. You will need to keep your ecu etc though.

I think it be better changing the car and scrapping the old car

think it would be cheaper than a fresh engine

You done no the origin of the replace engine

Might only last a month or so

Is it worth messing about with

There's a breaker just outside Gainsborough, which isn't far from you, who specialises in Omegas. Sadly mine went to him a few months ago and it was a 2.5 V6 CDX. If he hasn't still got the engine from mine he said he was collecting several a week, so he's bound to have another.

Ah, never knew that. Not fussed about the car anyway tbh mate, i bought it knowing about the engine fault (after it faulting on test drive) and only paid scrap price anyway. Just got it to do up for a rally next year

Yeh, can see what ur sayin, and if i was using as my own personal car, i would, or strip and sell the bits.
But cuz its only gonna be used for a banger rally and maybe the odd run into town and blast around the airfield, it'll do for now!
Repaining the whole thing anyway!

I've just been down to see a senior member RobseyMV6 who lives in west Sussex. I think he had 2 or 3 2.6 engines in his garage he wants to sell
