Title: Poor Big Blue!
Post by: LJay on 21 February 2012, 21:38:38
My poor car is having to be very tolerant towards my blatant lack of attention to signs!  ::)

Saturday night, off clubbing in Chester with friends, parked up in a car park I've used hundreds of times and off we toddle.  Arrive back to collect car at 2 a.m. only to find that the car park is now locked from 11 - 6.30 at weekends!  Sign is smaller than A4 with very faded print!  Bugger, can see Big Blue but can't get to her!  :(

Had to treat my poor car to a nice bubble bath to apologise! :-*

Today.  Driving along a road that we use frequently and therefore know to be a national speed limit, within said limit as patrol car behind me.  Flashing blue lights, oops!  Nice Mr police man asks if I realise that it's now a 50 mph limit and I was breaking it.  Apologise profusely and explain that when I drove it yesterday it was still a national and I hadn't seen any new signs.  Sent on my way with the suggestion that I may like to be slightly more observant.  Phew! :-[
Had a good look and the speed signs have changed but no warning of a new speed limit which they seem very fond of doing around here! :(

So that's 2 incidents this week, wonder what'll be next?? :-[

They certainly do, that's what got me wondering!

Hope I don't choose to ignore an important sign next time! :-[

The car park thing is outrageous IMO. Ok don't let cars in, for whatever reason, but you can't lock people's cars in without being able to leave .  >:(

i fell foul of the car park thing in watford a couple of years ago...  .... no obvious signs saying they REALLY close it at 11 on a sunday, by which i mean, lock it all up , with big metal fencework gates,   and charge you extra  to get out.....    i think it was £30 or something.....

fabulous,  had a meeting in the hotel next to the car park,  which does not have it's own car park....     finished at 11.30, got back to find i couldn't get to the car, never mind get it out of the car park and go home....

called the number on the ticket machine,  and then waited an hour or so for them to come and let me out....

no obvious warnings in the car park or in the hotel.....

rather livid....

I thought it would be that one. Looks like i'll be cutting through the Lache to visit Morrisons from now until July then. So how did Ljay get away with it, was it fluttering her eyelashes or was the copper using a bit of common sense ;)

Common sense Pete!  ;)

The car park was a nightmare, they'd put up paper signs which they'd admitted had been ripped down, hence no notice it would be locked. They came out after about an hour and a half and sat in their vans to smoke their fags before finally letting us out!  Rude and obnoxious, good job I was the sober one or it might have ended differently! >:(
Used the same car park on mon and more paper signs had been sellotaped up...fantastic, well done lads! >:(

Aaron, I'm not gonna call you on women driver comments for once, I've not got a leg to stand on! :( :( :(

;D Is that why you didn't go for the aforementioned "bit of leg" to get out of it? ;)

The car park one is atrocious really though. And I did think of you this morning as I was driving to work (ooer ;D) - there's a long, winding, fun(!) NSL road between Ascot & Virginia Waters on my route to work which became a 50 limit around Christmas with no notice. The daft thing is that where the road crosses the Berkshire/Surrey border the 50 limit ends and it goes back to NSL..

Apparently Surrey think that road is safer than Berkshire do ;D

It wasn't mentioned on the sign that they would but I had a feeling it would have been requested but luckily not.  I was just glad it wasn't just me and there were other drivers wanting access to their cars too.

Cheeky! ;D

Nope!  Just embarrassed myself by queuing for ages, then joining the shortest q to fill up on the offside of the car and then not being able to get the nozzle to stretch to the filler cap!  Felt about an inch tall, got in the car and drove off!  :-[ :-[
Then spent the next 60 miles waiting to run out of fuel, called back to the unmanned, pay at pump petrol station at 11 p.m. only to chicken out of filling up when a car full of blokes pulled up! :-[ :-[ :(  Hence going to work in Jimbob's car as didn't have time to get fuel! ;)

The speculation from you lot has been amusing though! ;D ;D

I Would like to add thanks for all the offers of help and advice.  Much appreciated.

In her defence...we have both filled up here, and many other garages on the 'wrong' side.  A great queue buster normally.
Whether this was a positioning error, or shorter hose than normal, I dont know.
