Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Phillips SC804 Problems
« on: 10 May 2010, 08:53:35 »
Just got a secondhand SC804 for SWMBO's car as someone had fitted a third party cd/radio which had started playing around. The car's still got the Phillips CD012 changer in the boot which it'd be nice to use hence a replacement SC804. Yesterday, changed it over, all worked but it wouldn't switch to CD. In the MID it shows CD IN so the changers registering a CD but radio doesn't do anything when you press the CD button. As we both have Elites (showoff!) I swapped my SC804 into her car and the changer works fine with that. I put her SC804 into my car and it wouldn't conrol the changer again. My changer works fine with my SC804.
Had the front off the suspect SC804 and all the button pads on the rubber membrane seem ok and all the buttons physically move ok.
Is there anything that I'm doing wrong, or is there a setting that needs changing? Is it just FUBARed  :(

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Rear Washer Question?
« on: 11 January 2010, 19:46:42 »
So, my rear washer's never worked since I've had the car. I've lived with it for some time but recently of course things have been very grubby so it's galvanised me into doing a bit of research.

I see from the Haynes manual, that there is only one washer pump for the front and the rear screens, so how does one pump service both screens? Is there an electric valve somewhere to direct the water to front and rear? Do the wiper stalks switches go US? I can't hear if the pump runs when trying to wash the rear screen but then I can't hear it when washing the front screen! Any advice? Thanks.

Chaps,

The wifes drivers seat seems to be seized up! I seem to remember I had this problem before but I just gave a bit of a shove and off it went again. This time it doesn't seem to want to budge. You can hear the motors clicking but no movement on any axis. If you press any of the Memory buttons again it tries but no movement. I guess they're fed via  fuse shall I pull it to reset it? I seem to remember there is a mechanical way of adjusting them if all else fails, perhaps I could get it moving again with this? I should add that the wife is four foot nothing, hence the memory seats and I and my son are six footers. Our son was the last driver and I think he's gone right back with the seat which is why it's seized up. It did it to me when I was looking for the heated seat connector and wound it right back but I managed to get it moving by using a bit or horsepower to get it started!!
Thanks for any advice.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Strange Goings On!
« on: 01 December 2009, 07:47:17 »
This morning, when SWMBO was coming home, the sunroof and the rear sun blind started working on their own!!! The sunroof had closed itself by the time she'd got home but not quite so I had to open and close it a couple of times until it closed properly. Any ideas? Everything else is normal :)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / MID Advice Please
« on: 01 November 2009, 13:19:00 »
I understand that you can take out the MID display fairly easy (without taking the steering wheel off as the Haynes manual suggests!) so I'm going to take the wifes one out to see which type of display I need.  My questions are a; if I take it out the MID can I leave it out? Or do I have to put it back in temporarily until I get another? and b; Do I have to get the exact same one ie a 3.0 Auto or can I get one with the same display and get it reprogrammed to suit the car?

It'd probably be easier to ask if anybody's got one on here when I find out which type I need but I just want to be sure.

Thanks.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Air Con Doesn't Work
« on: 20 October 2009, 16:38:15 »
Just bought another Omega for the missus and the air con doesn't work. I looked at it before but realised the air con didn't work (amongst some other niggles) and walked away. When the price came down to what I wanted to pay I bought it! Now a mate, when I mentioned about the air con said that the compressor won't cut in if there's no gas in the system. Is that right? The light comes on the switch but I can't hear a relay. Is there a relay? I checked the fuse and that seems ok, I see on another thread that there's some big fuses for the air con by the battery? Any advice would be welcome, thanks.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / HID Bulb doesn't light up!
« on: 22 April 2009, 17:25:44 »
One of my HID bulbs doesn't light up anymore, changed the ballast thingy over to prove that on the bulb that does work, but the bad bulb still doesn't light with the other ballast thingy :( It ticks two or three times and tries to light up but doesn't. Does this mean the bulbs US and if so where's the best place to get another (apart from Vauxhall at maximum £!) and do I buy a pair?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Headlight Adjusters!
« on: 19 February 2009, 20:31:41 »
Just bought some more headlights off EvilBay and yes, the adjusters are buggered :( My question (s) is, can you buy adjusters seperate and is it a case of getting the lens off the front of the headlamp and winding the adjusters right off the threads to replace? Maybe I can glue them together or rebuild them...!

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / 50W HIDs?
« on: 19 November 2008, 15:30:57 »
Anybody had any experience with these? As they are only 50W I presume they would be ok on the existing wiring (50w/55w halogen?) are they ok physically with the headlight units (ie heat) and are they legal?

Also, has anybody had any experience with H7 HID conversions? Same questions as above really!

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Bloody Headlights :-(
« on: 24 October 2008, 09:28:50 »
Chaps,

Not sure whether this belongs in this section or in the general section as this is mechanical related rather than electrical, if you see what I mean!

Is it me or Omega headlights just bloody rubbish? My story started with my '95 Elite which had the older pattern yellowed lights. Obviously rubbish so I got some of the Depa clone lights (cos nobody had any genuine ones on Evilbay at the time :(). Now these look the part but the beam on the road is crap! I forked out for a set of those Osram Nightbreakers which made things a little brighter but the fact remains that the beam is patterened and not a solid consistent beam. Anybody had any experience with these?

The second and third set of lights are genuine Vauxhall lamps (projector type again) but all of them are b**gered in one form or another >:( It seems that the adjusters inside are fragile as with three of the units the reflectors inside the body of the headlamp flop about like a preverbial dick in a well ;D I tried to get the lens off the front of one unit but it's sealed with some sort of mastic so that I don't think you'd get it off without damaging it. So you can't see inside to see what's wrong. I can see that at least one adjuster is broken but I can't tell whats wrong with the others and it' SO FRUSTRATING :'(

What I want to know is

a; is there an easy way to get inside the lights to try and fix them or failing that

b; will somebody please sell me a set of lovely HID lights that will solve my problem for once and for all as I'm beginning to loose the will to live ;)

The funny thing is (everybody groans now) I keep on harping on about the old Monza but....the lights were bloody superb on there (still are!) and I have spare lamps which I have been sat in my lockup for the last 10 years and they'll be better than the Omega lamps I have now! And of course they were metal and glass so you could put some whopping great bulbs in them without any fear of damage.

Progress? Hmmm.

Please help an OOFer near to tears :-[

« on: 04 April 2008, 15:11:15 »
Anybody out there got the pinouts for this radio? I'm trying to hook up a handsfree kit and can't work out what's what :( Yes, I know there's a label on the unit telling you all the connections but mine's unreadable :'( Thanks in advance.

Humpy

PS Does it have a telephone i/p so that I can use the radio speakers or does it just mute?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / OEM Headlights!
« on: 31 March 2008, 13:01:42 »
Chaps,

I've found a pair of new old stock replacement projector headlamps for sale for £95 the pair (not vauxhall). Is this a good price? Are they any good? Apparently you have to change over the electric adjusters from your existing headlights, is this doable/easy? Thanks for any help.

Chaps,

I have a '95 Elite estate which has the stubby roof mounted aerial on the roof (and the grotty HRW aerial for the radio :() which is well known is for a Telephone setup of some sort. My question is, what is this unit and is fitted as standard and what's involved? I was looking through the Haynes manual and noticed three distinct modules, the microphone, telephone and handset in the wiring diagrams but no mention of it anywhere in the manual as such. Just wondered what it's all about as I'd like to fit a handsfree for my mobile and wondered if any of this could be used.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Alarm Problem?
« on: 02 November 2007, 21:35:25 »
Chaps,

Every now and then the indicators flash repeatedly for about five minutes at a time! I guess this is an alarm trigger but there's no sound! The car is a '95 Elite Estate. I seem to have read in the users manual (that which comes with the car!) that when you unlock the car, the alarm LED gives an indication that the alarm's been triggered? Well, it doesn't seem to! The LED flickers though for about twenty flashes when you arm the alarm, and then settles down to a slow on off pattern as per normal. What does this mean? Is the alarm shagged :(
