General Discussion Area / Quiz Night - test quiz
« on: 01 December 2007, 15:11:07 »
I've made a couple of webpages to assist with the Quiz Nights.

I need to run a short test quiz to ensure everything is OK.

I propose a quick, short quiz at 6pm this evening to do this test.  If its successful, then we can reinstate the Quiz Night :)

Please arrange your teams for this one, and team captain (only) PM me with the Team name, and team members. Wives/girlfriends/families etc all welcome to join in - this test quiz is fairly easy :y

I am looking for at least 5 teams to participate, less than this, I will have to cancel it  :'(

General Discussion Area / Knobenders - do you watch
« on: 27 November 2007, 16:51:08 »
Right, the beeb reckon that 15m watch this trash. Assuming population is 60m is, thats 1 in 4 of every man/woman/child watches it.

So, an unscientific study...

Do you, personally, watch it. Honest answers, don't be embarrassed, and votes will remain hidden.

General Discussion Area / Hi Def TV and MCE
« on: 27 November 2007, 12:33:15 »
I think I may need a new MCE  :'(

Started watching (bloody phone kept ringing so didn't see it all the way through) a Hi Def version of Casino Royale last night.  The thing runs at 95% CPU all the way through it. Amazingly, even during fast action scenes, it didn't drop frames, but did twice drop frames for now real reason (presumably Windows doing something else).

Running at 1920 x 1080 resolution, Nvidia 8500GT video, 3.2Ghz P4, 2Gb RAM.  I need more performance  :'(

I was thinking along the lines of a Intel 965 (coz they're cheap, yet still powerful) based board and a Core 2 Quad chip.  Will that be able to handle my needs?

Can anyone get to http://www.123-support.co.uk or http://www.svp.co.uk both of which are dns served by 123reg (123reg are not strangers to crap service)?

General Discussion Area / Quiz Night - Should we do another
« on: 19 November 2007, 17:38:00 »
I never thought it would work, but Golfbuddy managed to do an online, interactive 'pub quiz' last night.

The trial showed that we do need to make a couple of improvements if we are to repeat.

But, the big Q, should we hold another?

General Discussion Area / Quiz Night tonight
« on: 18 November 2007, 18:29:05 »
This may go well, or end in a spectacular failure...

We are, as an extension of the Nags Head, going to do a quiz night tonight.  The logistics of doing this on a forum are, well, a bloody nightmare.

Golfbuddy is quizmaster.

The way this will work is that you need to get a team together (or do it solo if your prefer). Obviously you need a method of communicating with your team, be it MSN/Phone/Conference/Sat round each other's house.  The Team Captain needs to have MSN Messenger.

The Questions will be posted on a special area of the forum by the Quizmaster.  There is a time limit within which time the team captain must MSN the Quizmaster the answer.  The quizmaster will post up all received answers, then ask the next question.  At the end, the Quizmaster will post up the scores, and the correct answers to each question.

The quiz will start at about 9:00pm, though may take a few minutes to get going.

It could be chaos, but it undoubtedly will be a bloody good larf.

If you are interested in setting up a team, please send a PM to Golfbuddy BEFORE 8pm tonight, stating the Team Captain, your MSN address, and the names of the team members.

This must be done before 8pm tonight!!

General Discussion Area / "I don't believe it"
« on: 17 November 2007, 18:48:56 »
Spent ages cleaning and feeding the leather in the MV6, esp the bits that I've had inside the house since fitting the Bose.  Plan was to fit them today.

Anyway, making Omegatoy a cuppa earlier, the milk bottle fell off the side, and, yup, splatted all over them.

Bugger.

A few people have asked if I was about tomorrow, and I said I didn't know.

I think I have replied to everyone individually, but just in case I've missed someone.  I am about all day tomorrow, at home.
