General Discussion Area / Wife learning to drive
« on: 31 January 2007, 16:08:19 »
My beloved wife has started driving lessons as she has a Lebanese licence and she never drove since she got it, therefore we thought that it would be better to go through the british process and get a full UK licence.
Given the excuse i got a cheap run arround which is a MK3 Golf 1.4 60ps with 80k with just 200quid no tax or MOT. It passed its MOT last year and since it has done 10 miles, so there is a good chance it will pass again.
The good news is that if i get it taxed and tested i will not have to use the alfa every single day and i won't have to care for supermarket parking any more.
Does anyone have any experiences from MK3 golf? Is it any good?

General Discussion Area / The best car forum
« on: 21 January 2007, 20:13:19 »
yes omegaowners.com is in my opinion the best forum and i would like to congratulate everyone that has made it today what it is. I thought that all the forums are the same but unfortunately not. The enthusiasm of other forum members stops at subjects such as how to make your wheels shiney/ what is the best wax to use and what main dealer to use.
I felt that people on here are more curious to learn about engineering aspects of the car and that is a credit on them.

General Discussion Area / The last moments of my PC
« on: 27 December 2006, 16:19:17 »
After 4 years of trouble free service my PC decided to die. It was an Asus Nvidia MB, Athlon 2600Xp, and 1gb ram + various bits and pieces from previous PC's. Due to the fact that the PC is a very important part of our lives at the moment(Wife uses it to chat with Familyand friends in Lebanon and i do all my courseworks for my part time MSc course) I decided to replace it promptly and i ordered a dell with all inclusive. So what are your opinions about DELL any experiences? Are they any good. It is the first time that i buy a ready built PC as it worked out cheaper.
Regards
Kostas

Apparently you can get a VECTRA SRI 2.0 T for 13k brand new through the net, What do you all think about it?
It is 175ps and you canchip it to 220 -240ps. Are they any good? The price sounds tempting.

General Discussion Area / Monaro, the king of the road
« on: 27 December 2006, 16:25:57 »
Boxing day 1.40 in the afternoon, we are in my mate's accord typeR 4 people on the M6, and then there is a scary view on the mirror, a red Monaro VXR we let it go past and then try to chase him, the result was a furious type 3 driver at 8k rpm looking at the monaro pulling away as if it was powered by the eurofighter's jet engines. My mate thought that he would have a chance following the monaro and i was laughing with tears. Warning to everyone DO NOT TRY AND RACE A MONARO it is a beast.

General Discussion Area / Time to freshen up the engine
« on: 20 December 2006, 14:52:31 »
After the holidays i'm going to fit a set of 3lt cams that i purchased few months ago. Give the opportunity i decided also to carry out the following jobs, Top end rebuilt, replace lifters, replace HT leads, replace Coil pack(depending on its condition), replace thermostat, refit oil cooler, and other little jobs. I have budgeted 500pounds for this job. I'm using autovaux for the majority of the parts, maybe halfreuds for the HT leads, and OPIE oils for oil. Halfords say that i can buy a set of BOSCH leads for 44 quid, has anyone bought them?

General Discussion Area / accord dead
« on: 16 November 2006, 22:35:11 »
Hi Guys,
my mate's accord died on his way from london to Darlington. He lost power as he was cruising. RAC came they had a look, injectors are firing, sparkplugs are firing, engine is cranking, 12V are going to the fuel pump. We checked the inertia switch and it is OK and also the relays seem ok. We assumed it was the fuel pump dead, we bought a new one and changed it few hours ago, no luck though, we can't hear the pump running.
Any ideas will be appreciated!
