Over the past year I have experienced some strange things with the engine. If I'm driving down the road at 30mph, mainly down hill, and take my foot off the accelerator the car will continue to accelerate/surge forward for a short time. It's as if the cruise control is on and is trying to keep up to the set speed. The time varies from 1-2 seconds but on the odd occasion its been up to 3 seconds. When I first had the car I fitted a cruise control stalk but that was around 2-3 years ago and it has been working fine.
What could cause this?
The engine always started first turn of the key without fail, whatever the temp of the engine was. Over the last year it would always start first time of the day without fail.
When I drive down to the local shops and turn the engine off, come back out to start the car the engine won't fire. If I turn the key off and then try again it starts first turn of the engine again. Last time it did it I continually turned the engine over to see what would happen. After 12 continuous turns of the engine it finally fired up. This problem is very intermittent and it won't do this every time. I found the thermostat was stuck open and changed this recently and the problem seemed to get a little more frequent.
What could cause this?
Since changing the thermostat the car seems slightly under powered when warmed up going up hills. It just doesn't pick up speed when driving up a hill like it used to. If I push the throttle down steady the car will have a noticeable delay and then pick up but not how it used to. Yesterday I steadily dipped the throttle on a flat bit of road over and over and its like the engine is thinking about it before picking speed up.
What could cause this
Thanks
