General Discussion Area / The "Other" election this year . . .
« on: 22 April 2017, 12:18:38 »

So, there is a presidential election in France this year.

So what ? What's that got to do with us ?

Well, there are a number of candidates and most of them would probably not make a big difference to us. However, If Ms Le Pen were to get elected there would likely be some fun and games in Euroland, and it could very well affect Brexit negotiations and the attitude of Brussels.

The link below is a run down of the candidates and their views. It's worth taking a look to get some idea of what's going on. At present Le Pen is No 2 in the polls, but as we know polls are so often wrong these days.

General Car Chat / Breakdown Services
« on: 05 April 2017, 23:23:49 »

I've been with the AA since 1983 (says so on the card), but the car has always been for business use, always been able to have somebody else pay. Not so now.

AA want £374 renewal, now this is for a whole pile of stuff, breakdown, relay, SWMBO, home start etc. I called them and they got it down to £221 . . . . . by cutting down the cover. I'm thinking of shopping around, but concernmed about quality of service. I've used AA quite a bit ( 4 x Omegas !) and found them to be generally pretty good. What are the others like ?

General Discussion Area / News Websites
« on: 27 March 2017, 17:59:54 »

I am getting increasingly irritated (not difficult  ::) ) by websites increasingly filling their pages with large images and video. Is this on the assumtion that visitors are too thick to read ? The real meat of most news items can usually be expressed in one well written paragraph, but instead we have to endure images that are often library pictures and slow loading buffering video. The actually "News" therefore takes longer to get across.

Ah of course, this is all about website designers makes sites "Rich" and "engaging". 'dangle berries' !

Back in the dial-up Dark Ages, many websites had a "Text Only" option. I for one would like to see this brought back for many sites.

There seems to be a vegetable shortage. In public this is being blamed on the weather in Spain, the reality is that Greggs overordered it's normal supply of lettuce.

However, in my usual public spirited manner I am happy to exchange my rations of lettuce for portions of triple fried chips. Sausage rolls will also be considered but only good quality jumbo size !

General Discussion Area / Who bought one ?

A few years ago you couldn't go into Currys or some other tech store without having 3D TVs pushed at you as being the new "must have".

Now . . .

My outlook is simpy never to buy into, or "early adopt", new technology. And, so far so good  :y

There's nothing better than a "who's fault" discussion, they go on for ages. Cars Vs Bikes Vs Cyclists Vs Trucks Vs Pedestrians Vs Aliens etc

I came across this website with enough " idiot", "muppet", "a**shole", and "w***ker" moments to keep everyone accupied for a very long time.
