Omega General Help / Heating problems
« on: 24 December 2012, 04:20:53 »
I am confused by my 98 V6 car's heating issue and I have not been able to find a solution despite reading many posts.

In cold weather just over 0C my car takes awhile to blow warm air.  Generally after driving on the highway for several miles and then coming to a stop, it will blow hot air.  The temperature gauge is consistently low and usually near zero if the heater is on.  Once the car is fully warmed up from driving 20 or so minutes, there is no problem with the heating.

I thought it could be the thermostat, so I replaced that without improvement.  I have also pulled the vacuum line going to the HBV and plugged it-no change.  The overfill tank is at max.

Any ideas?

Omega General Help / Passenger side air recirculation inlet?
« on: 01 April 2012, 23:12:20 »
I purchased an A/C vent spray to clean out any mildew and contaminants in the vent system.  In order to use it, I have to find where the air inlet is for air recirculation mode.

In the service manual, it states, "1. Remove passenger side sound insulator 2. Remove blower motor module from duct 3. Spray contents into the blower motor module hole."

I am struggling to find the blower motor module in the service manuals.  Any ideas?

Omega General Help / Headlight Adjusters Replacement
« on: 26 February 2012, 03:51:17 »
I am waiting on the aluminum adjusters to arrive, but I am curious if there is a replacement for the other adjuster as mine are both broken.  Referencing the headlight adjusters replacement tutorial picture, it looks like the other adjuster is white plastic (in the USA it is the same black PBT as the main adjuster). I have tried to glue it and have visited the junkyards, but no luck.  Any ideas? Thanks!

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Power Inverter Installation
« on: 26 November 2007, 01:33:49 »
I'd like to permanently install and wire a power inverter in my 98, but can't seem to find a suitable place.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  I want the outlets by the driver.  The unit is not too big.  My best option so far has been to put it in the boot with wiring for a switch and the outlets near the middle shifter section.

Omega General Help / Coolant temp drop
« on: 19 May 2011, 03:21:37 »
I just had the head gaskets replaced with a few extras, including the thermostat. The temp gauge is at about 50%, but drops to 0% when I turn the heat on (which does work). Does this sound normal or could one of the hbv hoses be misplaced? Thanks in advance!

Omega General Help / Wishbones questions
« on: 03 July 2010, 23:31:53 »
Has anyone tried this seller or heard about these?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-OMEGA-94-04-2-X-LOWER-WISHBONE-ARMS-NEW-/330412300642?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4cee1b9962

If not, any other suggestions?

Also, do all omegas use the same part number for wishbones...as I want to purchase these for my US Catera and they are much cheaper in the UK.

Thanks!

Omega General Help / Coolant leak? Help!
« on: 09 June 2010, 06:44:17 »
I have something leaking in the right front (under/near the bumper).  It is red (so is my coolant), so that is what I believe it is.  I don't see any obvious signs of leaking under the hood, but I have the following pictures from under the car where I see the leak.  It's sporadic in its leaking. Any ideas??

Omega General Help / Cambelt visual inspection
« on: 24 March 2010, 21:12:03 »
I know the 40,000 miles or 4 year rule on the cambelts.  What do the broken belts look like visually?  I ask because I'm at 50,000 miles on my belt, but I don't have the money or time to change it.  I took off one bolt on the cambelt cover and it appears to be in great condition without any cracking or signs of heavy wear.  Am I correct in thinking the belts that break will have signs of wear and cracking (most of the time at least)?

Omega General Help / New code popping up p0115.
« on: 02 December 2009, 17:30:35 »
Last year I had code p0116 (Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor Performance) light up regularly.  I replaced the engine coolant temp sensor and examined the related connections which looked fine.  It fixed the problem for awhile.

It has been 5 months since any codes have come up, now I have the related code p0115 (Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor Circuit).  No leaks from the hbv or anywhere else.  Any ideas? Thanks in advance  :y

Omega General Help / Oil drain plug stripped
« on: 20 November 2009, 18:24:48 »
Does anyone have any suggestions on a fix for a strpped drain plug?  The oil change place stripped it and it looks like they tried to fix it with a grommet of sorts.  It has a tiny leak now.  Anyway, are there any good fix kits?

Omega General Help / Engine coolant temp sensor and p0115
« on: 04 May 2009, 22:11:16 »
I have had an intermittent p0115 code (engine coolant temp sensor or harness).  Does anyone have an easy way to access the sensor and harness at the back of the engine.  I removed the scuttle, but it didn't seem to be enough.  Would I have to remove the plenum too, or is there more.  Thanks in advance!

Omega General Help / What to lube?
« on: 11 March 2008, 19:17:10 »
What should be lubricated regularly (specifically with every oil change)?  Everything seems sealed so it's hard for me to tell.  I was considering giving the shocks a little Gibbs penetrant/lubricant, but I don't know if it is advisable or necessary.

Omega General Help / Rear Differential Fill Plug
« on: 01 January 2008, 01:15:25 »
Happy New Year Everyone!

I recently topped off the rear differential.  I cleaned the plug very well and the hole, but my filler plug sticks out about 3mm...is this normal?  I couldn't tell the appropriate distance when taking it out (though it is at least 22NM) because of caked on grease.

Omega General Help / V6 3.0 Cambelt Items
« on: 05 December 2007, 20:44:52 »
I'll need to change my cambelt soon on my 98 Catera.  I am wondering if the kit for the 99-00 is the same.  Specifically, I am looking at the ebay auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Timing-belt-tensioner-kit-for-99-2000-Cad-Catera_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33625QQihZ001QQitemZ110201621428QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW.  Does that have everything I would need?  I don't think I need the water pump though...?  Also I am planning on replacing the aux belt.

Omega General Help / V6 IAC Cleaning Tutorial
« on: 28 November 2007, 22:26:58 »
This guy did a good job at showing how to clean the V6's IACV.  Maybe it could go in the maintenance section?
