Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Bose removal/fitting/wiring
« on: 06 May 2010, 21:26:25 »
Hi all

I'm gonna be fitting a full Bose system to my Reflection shortly (amongst other things), what do I need to look out for? I will be removing it from a dead Elite first including rear shelf/blind etc.

I know I need to take the rear seats out first, and have taken in the OOF guide for the rear shelf/blind, its just the loom/front part I'm gonna need some help with. I hear the loom goes drivers side under the plastic covers front-to-back, correct? Where is it routed at the front? What will I need to remove? Any extra fuses required?

All door cards are coming over (plus both front doors) so speakers are in hand.

Also on this subject, I'll be having the leather seats too. Are the switches easily removed/fitted? I know how to get the seats swapped.

Re: switches - the Reflection has plastic blanking left and right where the heater/blind/etc switches go.

Finally...steering wheel controls...worth taking?

Cheers in advance!

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / TC switch
« on: 06 May 2010, 23:26:53 »
Hi

I was just interested to know whether the TC switch to the side of my stereo can be disconnected and moved to one on the main switch area above the stereo if I have the relevant button? Its so I can gain back the space next to the stereo. Both cars are 98/R its just the old one has sat nav where my TC switch resides. Not gonna bother moving the Phillips sat nav.

Thx

Hi

Can you wire a car stereo to inherit brightness control from the dash dimmer wheel? I have an aftermarket stereo in my miggy and its far too bright for dark roads and bad weather.

Its been driving me nuts on long late journeys, wouldn't mind sorting it out.

Thanks,

John

AARGHHHHHH my leccies are doing me in!!

(1) CD changer started ejecting randomly, no clue why (wiring maybe?)
(2) steering wheel controls inverted (wiring almost definitely?)
(3) display stuck on 'Phone', unable to play. Changer won't take cartridge.

How do I reset, take out the changer, or is it dig deep in the steering wheel and disconnect the controls?

Please anyone, I  need MUUUUSSIIIIIIIC!!!   :'(

Hiya

Quick fix? My steering wheel volume controls have started malfunctioning, the '+' button does a mixture of muting and turning down, the '–' doesn't do much, then the 'o' turns it up! Next minute its fine and all works as it should. Anyone else had this and fixed it?

No matter what CD I'm on - all load correctly then out of nowhere a few mins down the motorway, the display says 'EJECT-CD' and I'm stuck with Chris bleedin Moyles or Scott mincer Mills!! Its driving me up the wall anyone know what this is?

Incidentally most of my CDs are CDRs...I buy vinyl as a rule.

Omega General Help / Misfire update - possible air leak?
« on: 11 October 2010, 12:36:55 »
Hi guys

The miggy is still misfiring but yesterday I made some progress. I checked in complete darkness to see if my DIS pack/leads were arcing and stumbled upon something.

There were no stray sparks etc, but when I pushed the throttle under the bonnet, I heard a hiss before the car revved...any idea why? Seems like some sort of air escaping to me. Where it's coming from I don't know but it appears to be near the throttle anyhow..

Where would I start tracking this down?

Omega General Help / Fuel line damaged! NOOO
« on: 01 October 2010, 15:06:03 »
Hi I was changing my fuel filter yesterday which looks to have never been changed ever - it was so seized the end of the fuel line sheared off in the process, gutted. Its snapped off at the right angle right on the end where the filter goes on. Obviously that's rendered me immediately carless, nooo!

I've found a repair kit but I can't get it until Wednesday - can anyone give me the pipe diameter/QD fitting size for this or suggest a different stockist?

Here's the part in question, will this be the right fit?

Omega General Help / SHUDDER
« on: 15 September 2010, 17:58:15 »
Hi my cars still knackered. Replaced DIS pack (I'm not convinced it was a goodun at present), done HT leads TWICE, done plugs, done back box, paperclipped, no codes. Changed MAF, cleaned ICV. Had it on a snap-on machine at my local garage, no codes. Been suffering with this car for months to no avail, I feel like getting violent with it now I really do.

Will a tech2 pick anything up that the paperclip/snap-on machine won't?

If so, know anyone around the Cheshire area that has one?

Thx

Omega General Help / arggggg misfire still!
« on: 07 August 2010, 16:09:33 »
OK so months on, I'm back to the 2.5v6 Reflection, and I've been so skint I've been driving round with my misfire for months..

Having FINALLY just got some geniune HT leads and fitted them, my lumpy idling and hesitation has gone, and is replaced by just a nice diarrhoea sounding (albeit constant, lol) misfire under acceleration  :'(

Could this be blocked cat? I've done DIS pack, spark plugs, HT leads. No EML on, no codes showing on paperclip test. MAF disconnected = lumpier running by far.

When the cars done a long journey there is a fair whack of heat chucking out from under the car - normal, or not?

Any help now much appreciated. Its really cheesing me off. Especially after getting the 3L Elite nicked GRRRR.

Omega General Help / Where's the crank sensor in engine bay?
« on: 04 June 2010, 11:23:23 »
Hi guys

I've checked out the guide but on that the engines out of the car. I went to the motor to see if I could see which shape the crank sensor is the other day but couldn't see it. Is the crank sensor visible in the engine bay? I need to work out which shape mine is.

Do you need to get the scuttle off to see it, or am I just being a bit fick like?

Ta in advance!

Omega General Help / Can you mix green and red coolant?
« on: 26 May 2010, 19:15:47 »
Hi can you mix green and red coolant, ie normal and longlife? I have loads of red, and the car with green coolant needs a very small top up! Typical.

Omega General Help / Elite rear door Facelift -> prefacelift
« on: 02 June 2010, 22:57:05 »
Hi guys

Wondering whether to swap my badly scratched/creased pre-facelift rear door over with a facelift one on my Elite. What to I need to do? Will the door card fit without modification? Is the wiring the same internally/door pin etc?

I hear from Elite Pete that I can swap the door trim over with a bit of that heavy duty trim tape and some heat to get it off. Mines body coloured, not dissimilar to the facelift trim.

The damage:

Bought it like this though, nothing new, just getting it reet.

Omega General Help / Best VFM replacement brakes for 3.0
« on: 17 May 2010, 01:49:46 »
Hi all

I got the brake warning on a car I just got and can hear the front brakes are grinding. I don't think the discs are damaged yet as the car is off the road, but may err on the side of caution and get discs/pads. Its definitely just the front brakes anyhow.

So, what brakes would people recommend that's gonna be sufficient for 3.0v6/Auto/Saloon/Elite/1997/R but won't hurt my wallet too much?

Cheers guys

John
