General Car Chat / Vauxhall VVT engine issue
« on: 29 October 2014, 00:07:05 »
Hi guys,
I was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on some trouble with a 2014 1.2iVVT corsa.

The car suddenly started emitting thick blue smoke from the exhaust last friday.
AA was called, who advised not to run the car and car was towed back to dealers who said they couldn't find anything wrong, but that it looked like the engine had been run with the oil filler cap off, due to some oil spray present on the engine cover.
Would running the engine without the filler cap on cause it to burn oil?
They also said that they had picked up a stored fault code (manifold pressure sensor) which suggested the same.
However I don't recall seeing any engine management light come on at the time of the incident.

I am not convinced thier diagnosis fully explains it.
Anyone got any theories on this?

Cheers, Niall

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / How do I input my CD code?
« on: 10 October 2009, 22:35:57 »
Hi all,
Having finally got hold of the 4 digit code that is supposed to get the autochanger out of safe mode and working again, I don't actually know how to input the code correctly. Tried just pressing the number buttons on the head unit but that didnt do anything  :(
Anyone know how to do it correctly?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / CD SAFE...?
« on: 17 September 2009, 22:02:12 »
Hi all,
Today I bought a new CD magazine to put in my boot mounted autochanger.
When I insert it the changer comes on and goes through the magazine to locate the CDs as normal.
Only when I tried to play one "CD SAFE" came up on the dash screen and it wouldn't do anything.
Can anyone shed any light on whats wrong here?
Thanks in advance  :y

Omega General Help / V6 oil pump replacement - How difficult?
« on: 01 March 2010, 16:12:27 »
Hi all,
I have narrowed the rattling sound down to the oil pump being on its way out.
Has anyone had any experience with doing this job, as looking in the haynes manual it looks very difficult and heavy work. :(
I'm hoping I won't have to sell but I don't have the facilities required to do it at the moment. Any advice?

Omega General Help / Loud ticking sound, worse when hot
« on: 11 December 2009, 22:01:31 »
Hi folks,
There is an increasingly loud metallic ticking sound coming from the mid/bottom of the engine. Its not that noticeable on startup but gets progressively louder as the engine warms up. Its not the tappets as I cleaned and replaced them, and I did a compression test and it doesn't seem to be the piston rings either (also the ticking is too low frequency for that). Any ideas? :-?

Omega General Help / Intake valves not closing properly!?
« on: 06 October 2009, 19:44:01 »
Hi all
I have recently done a top end overhaul - 3.0 cams in, newer tappets from a low milage engine (mine were rattling so I though I would change them), all the usuals, cambelt, spark plugs, HT leads, oil and coolant change ect ect...
The engine ran but had a missfire on one cylinder throughout the rev range, so i've just taken the plenum off, checked the injectors, spark plugs, and done a compression test.
All looked ok, but the compression test showed I was getting virtually no compression on cylinders #3 and #6.  :o  I noticed that when turning the engine over with the spark plugs in, there is an odd "chuffff" sound coming from the manifold pipes to cylinders 3 and 6. I put my hand over it and there seems to be a bit of blowback into the manifold  :( It must be that the valves arent closing fully and thats what causing the low compression and resultant missfire.
However I am sumped as to why they wouldn't be closing or how to fix it :'(
Anyone got any ideas?

Omega General Help / Injector colour coding
« on: 01 October 2009, 11:18:52 »
Hi all,
I just put the mig through its MOT and despite the fact there is a constant missfire on one cylinder, it passed its emissons test. I have replaced the plugs, leads, DIS pack...everything except the injectors (I will do a compression tests soon just to be on the safe side) and the fact it was well within all the emissions limits and has no petrolly smell from the exhaust makes me think an injector has packed up.
My question is this, if I want to replace them do I have to find ones of the same colour (mine are dark blue) or will any from a similar year of V6 do? :-?

Omega General Help / MOT fail - break pipes
« on: 22 September 2009, 21:56:26 »
Hi all,
I put the mig through its MOT last week and it failed on the brake pipes being excessively corroded.
Apparently I need to make my new ones up from a reel of new pipe as ready formed ones are not manufactured anymore.
I went into my local motor factors and they do sell it but there are lots of different sizes you can choose between copper and kunifer.
Does anyone know what the correct size/material is and if I will need any other special parts for this job?  :-?
Cheers, Niall

Omega General Help / Headlight leveling
« on: 31 August 2009, 18:10:31 »
Hi all,
I noticed the other night that my drivers side headlight leveling mechanism isn't working, but the passenger one is.
I will be putting the car through its MOT in the next few weeks, is it likely to fail on this?
If so, is it a new lamp unit job or are they fixable? :-?

Omega General Help / Window switch removal
« on: 23 August 2009, 21:16:54 »
Hi, my passenger side window switch is playing up and I need to remove it, only the haynes manual is so vague, it just says "prize it out carfully"...I dont want to risk damaging the centre console. Any advice on how to do it properly?
Regards to all :)

Omega General Help / Intermittant power steering
« on: 07 August 2009, 15:15:10 »
Hi all,
I have noticed that sometimes at low speeds + low engine revs e.g. when parking up, the steering suddenly goes rather heavy momentarily, as if the assistance has cut out. With a few revs it comes back in but can go again. Its fine when driving with any speed/revs. I have checked the fluid levels and it seems fine. Any ideas on what the problem might be? :-/
Regards to all.

Omega General Help / HBV: where is it an what does it do?
« on: 27 July 2009, 13:51:26 »
Where is the HBV located and what does it do?
It was reccomended that I replace it while the top of my engine is stripped down to save work in the future, but I can't find anything about in the haynes manual and don't really know what I'm looking for/how to do it! :-/
Any advice on this one?
