The number plate may be a clue to who owns it.  ;)

Condolences to both of you, its always heartbreaking to lose a parent, no matter how old we are.
I lost my Dad 18 months ago in similar circumstances to Tony. Poor old fella was 83, in a poor state of physical and mental health, and in all honesty he had had enough, but I still cried like a baby at his funeral, and still miss him every day.  :'(

Just seen this... it's broken, but frankly looks easily repairable, and after the usual culprits have been sorted seems a fine motor, all look very clean and tidy cosmetically.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2001-VAUXHALL-OMEGA-ELITE-V6-AUTO-GREY-/231786923640?hash=item35f793c678:g:dx4AAOSwJcZWcshb

I might be interested in that if I could get it transported to here cheaply enough. Not worth going much above the start price though as the cost of oil cooler, cambelt kit, possibly tyres and god knows what else, will soon add up.

Im pretty sure they are standard fitment. I have lost a few over the years (and found a few sat on garage pumps), and have currently been without one for about a year. I must get around to buying one as I haven't had any luck finding one sat on a pump for some reason.  :)

I wouldn't be surprised if the coolant has been plumbed in the easy way. I.E. the wrong way.

I know of a Mercedes for sale local to me that is being advertised as having had one elderly owner from new.
It is factually true, but the elderly owner is a former Formula ford champion / Formula 3 driver, and drives absolutely flat out everywhere.
Ive never seen anyone drive as fast as him on public roads. ;D

They might be obsolete by then anyway. The powers that be seem very taken by the idea of driverless cars. The main problem for them at the moment is probably slipping in legislation to prevent us from suing Microsoft or whoever, when the driverless car has a hissy fit ( or gets hacked) and wont stop when it should, or veers of the road and mows down a load of pedestrians.
It will take a clever spin doctor or three to brainwash the "drivers" of driverless cars that they will still be liable when their car goes wrong with dire results.
In 50 years time people will watch old footage of people actually driving their own cars, and be shocked at the level of freedom enjoyed by previous generations.
Im glad Im not a youngster tbh.

If they don't think there is anything to adjust then they clearly shouldn't be working on anything bigger than a push bike ::)

I don't think I would even trust them with a pushbike. A badly setup pushbike can be a dangerous thing. :D
A quick glance underneath an Omega should indicate to anyone with even the most basic mechanical knowledge that the geometry is adjustable. Threaded adjusters on the tie rods etc. would be a pretty good clue.
It beggars belief that these people make a living from working on other peoples cars. :o

If he's not been there two years he can be dismissed without any reason. I'd make his boss aware of this and the issues with this chap.

Not quite. There are exceptions to the 2 year rule, including discrimination on grounds of union activity, race, religion....... ;)

We cant bring Western democracy to the Middle East, and we should stop trying to. The region has had thousands of years of living without democracy, and our arrogant stupid politicians think they can and should change that.
The euphoria over the so called Arab spring was pathetic to watch quite frankly.
Its actually a pity that Israel is in the middle of it, and that we still need the oil. Otherwise it could be virtually cut off from the Western world and ignored as irrelevant.
It is to do with religion, to the extent that, if you want total loyalty and commitment from people (to the point of suicide), if you can link your political cause (thirst for power) with their deeply held religious convictions, then your onto a good thing.
Its happened all over the world for centuries, most recently in Northern Ireland, as far as the U.K. goes, and wil be a difficult thing to eradicate.
The difference with the crusades was that people didn't know any better then. Most of the world had moved on a very long way over the centuries, but sectors of Islam are going in the opposite direction.
The answers to the problem would take politicians in possession of wisdom and a spine, requiring political correctness to be ignored, so don't hold your breath.

For me, the new shape XJ (like most modern cars) is a hideous looking thing. Almost as ugly as recent BMW,s.
The older original shape XJ though, has a timeless style (as opposed to fashion) which has never really aged, and only required periodic tweeks to keep it up to date over a 40 year period.
Similarily, the E type was and still is one of the most beautiful cars ever produced. The XJS - which was supposed to be its replacement - was fugly the day it was designed and was still fugly the day they put it out of its misery.

In my experience, the problem with employment law is that it is very often unenforceable from the employees point of view.
It all looks well & good on paper, but in reality, if you rock the boat you get thrown overboard.
This is particularily true in low paid / low skill jobs as there is a huge over supply of cheap labour for these types of jobs.
I feel sorry for TG,s son. Sounds like an honest lad who isn't playing the system, and that can make life difficult.
If you have young kids and don't mind bending the truth a bit, it will often take a very well paid job to tempt you away from benefits.
My opinion is that the welfare state should provide food, shelter and warmth for the genuinely needy by way of vouchers, no cash involved.
Anything over and above that should only come from gainful employment. No harm in dreaming I suppose. ::) ;D
