Omega General Help / Heater matrix leak - workaround?
« on: 29 April 2012, 11:13:51 »
Is there a quick temporary work-around for a leaking heater matrix? I tried turing the heater off but doesn't help. If I unplug the vac pipe on the HBV will that help? Ideally would have liked to unclip the hoses into the matrix and connect them together but can't do this as they have the quick connect connectors :(

Omega General Help / Re: Excessive Fuel Consumption

I've got a 3.2 v6 and get 21 mpg on the motorway and 16 around town.  I never put my foot down and am actually quite carefull, always looking at the current mpg to make sure i'm driving as economical as possible.

Wow! That's what my sister's partner gets in his Porche!

Hmmm, yes, mine dropped suddently a few months ago from around 32 on motorway to 28. I reckon they've watered down the supermarket petrol!

Omega General Help / Re: Eco on/off
« on: 07 March 2012, 14:15:17 »
It will make no difference because when their is no gas in the aicon system it switches off anyway. With a fully working system you'll notice a drop in engine rpm when you turn the ECO on. In your state the engine will be running at the lower rpm and you should see that nothing happens when you turn it on.

Sorry to hear about that. I have a pair of Timax cats that I removed a couple of years ago and been in my garage since. They were only a few weeks old at the time but I hated them. You can have them is you like. '99 3.0 Elite.

Omega General Help / Re: Inlet manifold bolt

Sorry, forgot to post the update ;D Got a set from Machine amrt - it was their own make of Helicoil, brand name Clarke - it was cheaper than the Heliocoil but worked brilliantly.

Cheers all :y

Some of the members here would be able to do the updates for a small fee IIRC, Marks DTM for example.

Hmm... there should only be two wires and you simply join them together, but you'd be much better off spending a couple of quid for new sensors - they break so often when changing the pads that they are dead cheap and only take a minute to fit. :y

Scrap that, sorry. Just looked at the drawings in the EPC to remind myself as it's been a little while. It's the corner screw of the plastic inlet wedge which is spinning. So... back to the Helicoil?

Cheers

Ah, its the Inlet manifold. That's much better than I hoped then, I did not realise it screwed into the plastic inlet wedge - that's much easier to fix then - I'll get another one.

Cheers!

Is it the inlet manifold to sandwich plate thats duff, if it is I would get a second hand sandwich plate just in case the brass insert has lifted a little which might cause an air leak ;)
No, it's the aluminium manifold that sits on top. The bolt goes through the sandwich plate into the engine block.

Omega General Help / Inlet manifold bolt
« on: 16 February 2012, 14:45:31 »
Hi, the inlet manifold bolt - one of the corner ones securing the manifold to the engine block is not biting and will not tighten. It's been like this a while but all the other bolts are correctly torqued. Would this help account for my really high fuel comsumption and any ideas how I can fix it? The bolt itself is OK.

Cheers
Chris

Hi there

You should replace the spark plugs first. The oil on the plugs may have caused the ceramic to overheat and crack, and therefore the plugs could be shorting through the crack. If that doesn't work I'd check the leads next - oil may have damaged these too with similar results.

I've always found that if it sounds like it's not running on some cylinders then it isn't. The most usua' cause I've found for this is when the spark is not igniting in the cylinder head.

Hope that helps.
