Excessive Fuel Consumption
« on: 06 March 2012, 10:44:37 »

Hi All,

The indicated average fuel consumption has just dropped dramatically on my 2.2 Auto petrol. It normally hovers sround 29mpg but yesterday dropped to 24mpg. I zeroed the reading to make sure.

Anyone have any idea what could cause this? I have a warning light (orange) that my garage says is a lambda sensor failure.

Highlighted - Erm... garage says?  Did they give you any code number(s) for the fault / can you get the codes by any chance and post up here?

Any other work done / problems you've noticed as well as the consumption problem?

Bloody wish mine said that, hovering at 21mpg at the moment.

Yes, need to get the codes read in full, before you go changing parts  :y

I average 24mpg to 27mpg over the course of a tank in my 3.2, with 2.2 I could easily get 30mpg mixed driving over a tank.

3.0 elite manual with thirsty mods. Yet I barely ever have the room to hit full throttle :(

Manual, even a 3.0 should be more than that. Even our local Mr Angry certain Admin with his digital throttle pedal only achieves that on LPG!

Hmmm, yes, mine dropped suddently a few months ago from around 32 on motorway to 28. I reckon they've watered down the supermarket petrol!
